Well I decided it's about time to start posting some progress of my work on a Necromunda gang. Recently several of my friends have decided to revisit Necromunda after many years of absence from the game, and for many of them, an absence from wargaming in general. Initially this will serve a progress log for my Necromunda gang, but it will also include progress from other members of our group. As many of them have been absent from wargaming for some time I will be assisting them with modeling and painting advice and techniques, as well as working with everyone on the background for their gang.
Eventually I hope to organize an long running campaign for the group that ties in the various gangs our group creates into an interesting campaign that should include my gang,The Red Skulls, based of the Orlock gang list, which is a mercenary group loosely affiliated with the Orlocks, running covert operations on behalf of the House of Iron. A Necromunda Spiders veteran guard squad, using the Van Saar list, retiring from duty in the Imperial Guard and returning home to stake their entitled claim on their Homeworld for their service to the Imperium. However, other ambitions or perhaps influences from higher powers in the Noble Houses are directing their actions in the Underhive. As well as a Ratskin gang guarding a dark secret Phantomhive that is best left undiscovered by trespassers. There is talk, though no one dare speak it above a whisper, of unspeakable horrors lurking in the Sump - strange, shadowy hunters; Ghastly, shambling figures moaning in the dark, and some things that even if mentioned, would surely invite damnation.
As for my gang, as mentioned above, will be based off the Orlock gang. I've have made some progress but I have a long way to go to complete the gang and also really want to step up my painting as well as encourage other members of the campaign to push their painting skills as well.
If you've read this far and are still interested I guess it time to show some pics.

Thanks! The autogunner is probably my favorite too so far. Although I feel the autogun is maybe almost a little too big. The inspiration was straight from the illustration of Delaque ganger with a drum-fed autogun in the rulebook. Once of the coolest pictures in my opinion!
Not that anyone really seems to be following the thread so far, and honestly I haven't really shown much just yet but I thought I'd post an update anyway.
I think currently I'm struggling to visualize the campaign as a whole and it's somewhat hindering my progress. I think I"m going to branch out with the models and really start building models not specific to the gang, but just models that strike a visual chord with my idea of the Underhive.
Over the next week or so I plan to just build whatever sounds cool - Bounty Hunters, Hired Guns, Mutants, etc. I hope the process will not only help me entrench myself in the feel of the world of Necromunda, but really just be a whole lot of fun!
Any comments or criticism at this point would be great as well. Feedback really helps drive the creative process, so please fell free to let me know what you think!

I'm going to follow this thread for two reasons:
1. I need various Nercomunda fixes to slake my thirst.
2. Because I think those first four chaps look ever so promising. I'm now waiting impatiently to see them painted
I like the knee and shoulder pads and that drum-mag autogun is great, not too big....its 40k That forge world shotgun looks good too. In fact I see nice combinations of bits and pieces throughout.
Have fun with the hired guns etc. they are a great way of doing some crazy 40k modelling (bounty hunters and desperados really kick arse too).
The back story sounds promising.... but please reassure me that the Spiders are not all going to be armed with Lasguns? (which kinda defeats the point of Necro imo)
Looking forward to seeing more of this and to find out what those Ratskins are protecting...the Cawdor in me wants to burn them all!!!!!

Ghosty - lol. Yes that exactly what I'm saying. Nerco is all about gang warfare set in the wild west... in space, with a rag tag group of no good scummers, hell bent on making a quick buck, with whatever scabby weaponry comes to hand. But you're right there is nothing more fun that going up against an Imperial Guard squad and wtfpwning* them... I love getting a shotgun out, stroking my chin and saying wisely "Hmmmm you're sniping at me from hard cover...I'll use a scatter shell!"
The only thing less fun than going up against an IG squad is going up against Redemptionists. Seeing all the pilot lights attached to the end of their guns and thinking "I'm toast!".
Oh and Ghosty get back to your kroot... I want to see some more nice kroots
* wow you're right I can taste the bile....hmmmm I wonder if I can use this to remove paint from resin?

Thanks for the comments! PDH I love your Scavvy gang! It's always good to see cool Necromunda logs and yours is one of the most impressive I've seen in some time.
I'll be working with the Necromunda Spiders player probably the most as he hasn't played or painted much in a long time, but he's a big BL reader, so theme should be solid. I've given him a bunch of bits from my bits box including lots of SM scout shotguns, so there should be some variety in weaponry and not a pure lasgun list. He does plan on having no juves at all, which is fluffy considering the theme of the gang.
As for the Ratskin gang, they aren't so much protecting anything as trying to keep reckless gangs from opening Pandora's box. This should be the core focus of the campaign, although there will be lots of one-off scenarios too, probably right from the beginning just to get some games in and get the gangs ranking up a little before diving headlong into the main story of the campaign. Without making the story too much of a mystery there will be a Chaos presence which I'm still deciding exactly how to flesh it out. I have plans for some cultists, mutants and perhaps even a rogue CSM.

It's been awhile since I've posted any updates and I have few more members. I've been going back and forth on ideas for a Chaos cult but the new =I=munda rules and lists posted by AncientSociety have really given me some inspiration to start work on a Chaos faction. In addition, I'm still trying to get the other participants geared up to game. One of the downsides of being older and having all the money for gaming you never did as a kid is that finding the time to build, paint and game is hard to come by! Anyway, things should hopefully start progressing more rapidly over the coming months and I need to bust out the paints and get some models table ready.
Here's a Heavy and another ganger:

hey another Necro thread! As a Necromunda player and moddeler myself, I feel obliged to watch this thread. So consider me subscribed.
Those guys look splendid. I am curious on how you are going to paint them. Like most, I also love the autogun conversion.
I found myself working on models not related to my gang as well. I mostly play Delaque, but I am working on a dreadlock Goliath gang, a scavy gang (altough not as awesome as PDH), scummers, bounty hunters,... Even zombies for house made rules. It's better to make those models not related to your gang than not. You will always find yourself in need of a mercenary, or your buddy needs that extra ganger, or whatever...
Keep up the good work.

Cadaver I'm so excited you're getting the paint brushes out. If these guys are half as good as your Death Guard I'll be an extremely happy bunny. Sitting on the edge of my seat.
I'm liking the new guys.
Out of interest what is the heavy doing with his left hand?
I like the wolf scout head choice, makes him look like a veteran with some non standard kit.
Also what are you using for the studded shoulder pads?

Thanks for all the comments everyone. For those of you who commented on the fluff. I'm working on on a few things, so I'll be sure to post it up.
As for the color scheme, I'm not sure just yet. I usually just mess around with stuff until I get something that works for me. For me usually just diving right in without too much planning really helps with inspiration, although I will admit I'm browsing coolminior not quite frequently looking at masterfully painted models and finding techniques I want to try out.
PDH - My Death Guard were certainly a labor of love. Sometimes I wish I still had that army but I at least can take comfort in the fact they were purchased by a serious collector and not some kid who's parents give them too much money. I'll certainly try my best to surpass my skills but I haven't picked up a brush in over a year so hopefully my painting hasn't suffered too bad as a result.
As for the shoulder pads, those are from the grave guard kit and are cut down slightly to fit the models. Probably the coolest bit since Kroot shoulder pads in my opinion. Hopefully they don't become as hard to get ahold of a kroot pads on the bits sites.
Thanks again everyone. Hopefully my next update will have at least some PIP pics if not finished models.

It's been awhile since I've updated this thread as I got a bit sidetracked with my =I=munda Nurgle Cult, but I've been playing a lot of Necromunda lately. The unfortunate side effect of all the gaming is that things have been a bit slow on the gang progression. I've done a few weapon swaps on the members posted above as well as made a few new models. I'm finally to a point where it's time to start painting as I've put it off for a good long while.
As far as general progression of his blog, I've been talking with my friend about making a modular, magnetized Necromunda table. The general idea is to cast the plastic Necromunda bulkheads in resin and install magnets on them as well as replacing the card terrain with plastic which will be textured and more realistic. These elements will also be combined with plastic GW terrain, which will also be magnetized. The idea is to create a fully painted table that has lots of customization for setup, but can be broken down and stored easily. It's pretty ambitious, but I'm excited to give it a try in the next few months.
As for immediate updates I have a WIP bounty hunter. I still need to work on the greenstuff cloak, and I'm waiting for some more resin bases to be shipped to me, but I'm pretty happy with him so far.
Comments and criticism welcome as always!

Ace you're back.
The bounty hunter is brilliant, solid model (and solid in game). Cool pose, nicely placed parts. The only thing I'm not so sure about is the head. The choice of head is great but I think the neck might be a bit long, the top of the head looks just too high in comparison to the body etc. Of course it could just be the angle of the photo.

Hey Peter, I'm glad someone is reading this blog! That head gave me a hell of a time trying to get it right. Basically the braids just didn't allow much of an option for placement. It does look a little worse in the pictures, but it is sitting at a bit of an awkward angle on the neck. I almost want to clip the braids so I can get a better placement.

You're back! I remember reading this thread when you were updating last time, and being really disappointed when it sank into the depths of the P&M section. I'm looking forward to the painted shots of your earlier gangers - it always seems to complete the character of a model so nicely.
The bounty hunter looks really good! I don't think I've ever seen a conversion of that particular Vostroyan before, and he happens to be one of my favourite models, so I'm excited to see where you take him. Other than the neck thing PDH already mentioned, I'm not sure if there's anything I could suggest to improve him though. Great work, and I'll be watching closely!

Have you tried heating the beard up a bit with a candle... or hot water (to be a bit safer)? That way you could bend the beard into a better wind-swept angle for his head to fit those shoulders.
I think the head does look a bit tall, but it looks like it could almost be explained away as just his hair is tall... (in the first pic it looks like he has a pompadour). Or just GS the collar up a bit behind his head.
I think he looks great by the way. He really means business with all that gear.

The problem with a greenstuff collar is he has a hood already. I could grind it off with my dremel but it would be alot of work. I'll consider it though cause I think a collar might look cooler anyway.

Time for an update! It's been a busy last couple of weeks, which hasn't left much hobby time and bad weather prevented priming the gang and getting any gaming done for a bit. I realize just how long it's been since I posted a significant update of what I have done overall. So here's the gang as they stand. A few model posted previously have been changed slightly, either due to abilities in game, or just because I wasn't happy with how they were. Still need to do a few touch ups on these guys, some barrels drilled here, gaps filling there, etc.
Scarlet Street Devils
+ Hector Kilbride - Gang Leader +
+ Ephraim Toronado - Heavy + (soon to be given a new model w/ heavy stubber due to having BS 5!)
+ "Hairtrigger" Calhern - Heavy + (formerly wielding a heavy stubber before receiving multiple head wounds. He used to strike fear into his enemies, now he encites laughter)
+ Marlowe - Ganger + (Gunfighter extraordinaire)
+ Hans Von Stroheim - Ganger + (Ruthless CC fighter, currently the most hated ganger for destroying two different gang leader's powerweapons in CC)
+ Pillowpants - Green Juve +
Hired Guns/ Misc.
+ Ratskin Scout +
+ Bounty Hunter +
And an older model I never got around to posting in my =I=munda thread:
+ Meatcat +
C&C welcome as always.

Some good looking chaps you put together! Not as extraordinary as your mutants based on orks (yeah it's my workaround, because I can't comment on them directly, necromancer, ya know...), but still different from what everybody else does. I like the heads you chose, they all look good.
By the way where did you take Marlowe's (I know there is a cadian respirator on), Hector's (Imperium gunners?) and Hans' heads from?
Also what did you use for the shoulder pads? I know a kroot pad when I see one, but for example Ephraim's shoulder pads I can't trace back. Where did you cut those off?
Your bounty hunter is very cool and he looks a bit cuddly somehow, in a good way.
