Here's my Iron Warriors warband so far - I just finished the Vindicator today, and the Terminators a few weeks ago. The Marines I painted up between the end of 2009 and the beginning of this year, as with their rhino. Because of this they don't look quite as good, but are still looking decent.

I'll start with the Vindicator:

And here with the rest of the army, which have their own individual threads:

And things don't look too good for the Imperial Fists:

Please add more to the tanks! Gold trim and more hazard stripes, as well as some trophies (skeletons and fiddly chaos bits).

Also, use a black wash or thin black paint to make the exhaust vents dark and add some weathering - like dusty running areas near the tracks and the tracks themselves. Oil and grease marks would be nice too.

The rest looks good. Maybe wash the yellow with some watered down Sepia, though, to give it a bit more depth.

Still, these suggestions are optional - good tabletop quality otherwise!

I'm never going to put on the fiddly chaos bits - they are too fiddly, and always snap off, leaving these bare, ugly trophy racks. They're more durable on infantry models, but on vehicles they snap like crazy.

I should mess with the exhaust vents though - kinda surprising myself that I left them so plain. I think on my next vindi (I've got two more for this army) I'll paint the inset panels near the front and back in black, just to break things up a little bit. Getting masking tape in there for caution stripes would be tricky, and freehanding there comes out kinda lousy, as you can see on the rhino.

your caution markings are incredibly straight on both the tanks and figures. Great work and paint jobs. The characters look like they could use a wash, or some type of weahtering...they just look like something is missing....but they are fantastic!

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress
800 points of unassembled Urban themed Imperial Guard
650 points of my do-it-yourself Tempest Guard
675 points of Commoraghs finest!

The Dude - "Jackie Treehorn treats objects like women, man."

Lord Helmet - "I bet she gives great helmet."

Agree with the above. Get soem gold trim on the tanks to break up the silver.

I reccomend a wash of devlan mud on the entire model, makes the tank look more worn for very little effort!
if you're stuck for other idea, check the gallery. There are quite a few Iron Warrior players on the forums.

Here's the best pics I've got of Marines with the rhino - the rhino was before I started using masking tape so the caution stripes are kind of lousy:

I should do more trim on the vehicles, like the gold smokestacks here. I wouldn't want to drown them in gold though, since it looks tacky. I also don't want to use a Devlan Mud wash on the vehicles since they'll just end up looking too dirty. Washing entire vehicles has bad results with me, since they usually end up getting these big, uneven, and gross pools of wash everywhere. If I stick to the recesses like I did on the Vindicator I can do alright though. I'll go back and do the same to the rhino before too long, since right now it's just this blindingly bright silver box.

I think that Rhino looks great! Unfortunately the Marines are harder to make out, so I request that you do a few detail shots of specific marines, if that is at all possible and if it has any worth-while results. From what I can see, those marines do look very detailed indeed.

Ed- Oh and by the way, have you ever considered doing a Honsou conversion?

Very awesome models. And I honestly don't mind the blandness of the tanks. The clean straight stripes on the siege shield is more then enough to make up for it.

I'll get some new photos of them once I get some full army shots. Until then, there are just a handful more old photos I took:

I've never considered a Honsou conversion, but I'll be using the awesome Warsmith model GW made in the late 90s. That'll be up in a month or two

Ah, yes, everyone loves that model.. despite it being near-useless on the battlefield with the current rules.. but its still a brilliant model. So was the Night Lords hero they did.

Speaking of rules, I do happen to know of a 5th edition CSM fandex that contains legion rules and actually makes the 'dex much stronger without making it overpowering. If you're interested in it I can send you the download link from scribd.

Anyway, on to your models. I really like the 'gritty' style of armour you've got there, it fits the Iron Warriors well. Its almost symbolises that as they fell from grace and turned to chaos, their armour became less..shiny?

Well, I look forward to more.

I still use mine. i chopped off the servo arm and claw and use it as a MotF w/ conversion beamer in apoc games.

Although, if you wanted to use the original model i a game you could point it as a Lord with PF, Combi melta and MoK (so you get an extar attack to symbolise the servo arm in combat)

That's pretty awesome! I'm going to be running mine as a lord with lightning claws. I know it's not the best loadout in the world, but I think it'll be pretty cool! If I have the points he'll have a combi-melta as well.

Wait..what?

Not sure I quite understand that. Plus, I do believe you cannot have a combi-melta and dual Lightning Claws.

Oh, and Lightning claws are actually a good loadout for a commander - issues with wounding are usually the bane of powerful character models. Lightning claws munch up infantry.

Looks good but you forgot to take off the imperial from the vindi pr at least scratch it out (only EC used the emblem before the heresy and they would taken it off afterwards anyway). Also, I know the yellow and black is an IW theme but don't overdo it. remember- they're in a war zone not a construction zone.
I have to say though that your metals turned out really well.

The infantry models look good but i would add some more paint effects to you vehicals like scratches on the dozer blade and on the body and perhaps some rust here and there.

I really like the crisp clean look on the Vindicator. Maybe it's because I paint my IW clean as well, with minimal jangly bits hanging off everything.

The Rhino is a bit over the top w/ the caution tape. It is an attention getter, though.

I wouldn't put rust on it because i see the iron warriors as being an army with lots if ''mechanics''.

Why are you facepalming me? You can have dual lightning claws and a combi-melta with the CSM codex, just like you can with the Dark Angels codex. It doesn't say "replace bolt pistol with combi melta" just "take combi melta for X points" and so on. Even then, It says "replace close combat weapon with pair of lightning claws for X points" - it was a weird era of rule writing, and technically my Lord has a pair of lightning claws, a bolt pistol, and a combi melta. Yeah don't ask me either.

As to other comments on rust and the like - I too see the Iron Warriors as a really "mechanic" like legion, and they'd take decent care of their equipment. Keeping the spike racks off the vehicles is also a conscious choice, since while it looks cool I don't want to deal with the constant breakage. No spikes at all looks a lot better than a rack full of broken spikes. I agree I overdid the caution stripes on the first rhino; my next two will be more subdued. I like to think I don't generally overdo the caution stripes since I keep them pretty much to shoulderpads and dozerblades, with the odd powerfist here and there. Next up is a squad of infantry, who will be painted much nicer than the first squad. Amazing what 9 months of practice can do.

Ah, right. Another fault with that codex .

That facepalm was more for me than you anyway, because I didn't understand what you were saying. I'm just too used to using a better CSM codex.

Anyway, I can't wait to see this new infantry squad! Sounds very promising.

My tansk tend towards clean as well. I always give them a wash of devlan mud to durty them up a little. but the only one with nay rust on it is my converted Shadowsword....i thought it woudl be a piece of ancient tech that the captured so it woudl show signs of its age......as well as a crucfied commisar on the back!

What paint do you use on the marines? I use Boltgun with a Badab & Devlan wash but yours look darker.

I use Boltgun over black, then a Badab Black wash, then I drybrush over the whole model with Boltgun again. That should give it a brighter look than your Boltgun + two washes approach, actually.
