They used to be good. From what I've heard this is no longer true.

Well, I've been interested as the pics and articles would definitely be to my liking, but the cost is prohibitive. I haven't bought a one to date.

Also, this isn't news, (Edit) and it has been moved.

I think it is a metaphor of GW.

Lots its soul, in search of profits.

Compared to even the mid to late 90s the new one is advertising mag. They used to have WFRP, D&D, and other games other than frigging warhammer, 40k and LOTR.

I only buy it if I am in an airport with nothing to read.

I used to be fanatical about WD (1987 to mid 90's), but its lost its lusture quite a bit as I have grown up.

I voted buy it sometimes, as I do. But honestly can not remember the last time I bought a copy, possibly when the beatmen were released; what's that a year or two ago?

Couldn't give a monkey's about it. I used to love it, when it was thick, camne with terrain and hobby ideas, free miniatures on the front and didn't ram it's products down your throat.

I was reading WD300(I think) the other night, it was awesome. It had terrain ideas, and even mentioned non-GW products to use to create terrain! Shock! Horror!

I've got mixed feeling about it , so haven't voted.

When I was little I remember if mostly for the cool diorama pictures, so when I recenlty got back into the hobby I subscribed. I've got some useful painting advice from it but thats about it. Its mostly just a catlogue for the newest product to come out, a few or the articles are ok but the battle reports are a complete joke, anyone else noticed the newest model always wins.

I like the fact the hobby has its own magazine but I wish it was more than a marketing tool.

The only decent regular thing in the current era are the 'Eavy Metal painting technique articles.

I quite enjoyed the Dark Eldar background discussion in this issue but a lot of that had already been covered on the website.

On that note, a lot of the best stuff is already covered on the website. You just have to battle your way through the "Buy me!" pages.

The best era as I reflected on the recent thread was when they did a lot of modelling and painting articles and showcased non 'Eavy Metal armies belonging to GW staff or even readers.

I stopped buying WD about 3 years ago when it really turned into an expensive monthly catalogue, 98% of it you can get on the internet at no cost and the other 2% you can flick through in the store, there really is no point in buying it.

I don't buy it any more really unless it's got something that really sticks out to me.

I work at a FLGS and White Dwarf is actually a pretty good way of getting some of the kids more excited about the game. Letting them have one of the older WDs for free if they play a big game to conclusion (most of the kids I'm talking about are under 16) motivates them. They also get really motivated by looking through all of the painting guides and all of the models that are available for their armies. We also keep a couple of the GW Catalogues around for the same purpose.

I was hoping when Harbinger magazine appeared that here was a rival to out dwarf the dwarf! Unfortunately they fell on their sword. White Dwarf fell on their own sword way way back when they went totally inhouse. Issue 52 was when I started buying it (still got an almost unbroken collection upto 100, it really went t*** up in the mid 100s). Bring back outside advertisers and make it more interesting to read: drop the store finder and let those shops advertise instead, and allow non GW products to be reviewed and publicised. Now before anyone says they can't do it I say; hunt down the old issues and have a look. GW still had a meteoric rise regardless of other companie's products in White Dwarf.

This poll needs another option.

I am on the fence.

I haven't brought any magazine, in a big way, for at least 3 or 4 years.

For WD maybe it's my age, and the fact that I belong to the golden generation of WD readers. I don't despise it, but, It has nothing I really need to see, that I cannot view on the net or get elsewhere, for less.

Like other magazines I used to purchase, including film, and history mags, access to other forms of media pretty much renders purchase redundant.

For newer GW hobbyists, its a great magazine. But as you move on you end up wanting something extra, your priorities change.

Edit: the poll is way too loaded.
