In preparation for the platinum devil tournament, i've found myself in the need of painting 20 death korps engineers (and equipment!) in less than 5 days. So I thought I would share the progress (also in order to make sure I actually paint the buggers!)

The main squad (+commissar who leads them)

Mole Launcher team 1

Mole Launcher team 2

Breaching Drill

Here's a shot of all the engineers and gear assembled.

The paint scheme I hope to be doing for all of them! (I also need to copy this scheme for another 30 regular kriegsmen )

Here's to speed painting!

Quick update:

The Commissar (Still needs a lot of work, but hopefully at least tabletop quality now!)
http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2010/12/20/165568_md-.jpg

Engineer nearly done... still needs weathering powders to be applied and general weathering. Probably get around to doing that last after painting the rest of the team.

I'm excitied to see you go forward with the breeching drill. TBH, I think that is one of my favorite 40K models around.

I'd love to see someone come up with a biggeriezed version turned into the Lithopede from the Eisenhorn ? books.....

Excellent stuff Snarky. I really like your scheme for these guys, the only thing that didn't sit well with me was the eyes on your troopers. They seem too dark and kind of blend into the helmet making them look like they have holes in their faces. You might want to think about some way to define the eyes/goggles a little to give a bit of definition to that area of the head.

Overall I love the scheme and am looking forward to seeing more

Quite a milestone for me, 5 models have their base colours applied! The engineers still need a black/brown ink wash in places, but acceptable if I can't finish them for the tabletop (as long as nobody looks at them for too long )

The lenses on the gas masks were supposed to be blue, but when I actually painted them on, the lenses seemed too bright for the grimy models. I'm actually thinking of leaving them black and painting a side of the lenses a really dark shade of grey then using gloss varnish to emulate glass.

Also, here's an update to the Hades Breaching Drill, a little more scuffed up. Will weather it more later today.

Update:/

5 Engineers completed for Platinum Devil, however, I believe we will see them again for touch ups. Until then, they are considered "done" until I find enough time for them.

Mole Launcher

Engineers

The Hades Breaching Drill gets even more dirty. Now with soot and mud!

Close up of exhausts (weathering powders are great!)

That Camo scheme is reminiscent of some of the WW2 atlantic destroyer schemes. I really like it. Can wait to see the front of that beast!

It really is awesome, played it in an attrition battle where troops were KP, so to get KP you had to destroy it...

But the turn after, it automatically arrives again! Forcing a Str10 AP1 melta large blast each turn//

Ah, they don't normally but in this special mission, troops choices that were destroyed automatically arrive the turn after (and only troops give KPs)

Thanks, i'm wondering whether if I should do all my vehicles using the patterns i've used on my Hades Breaching Drill, or if I should do them in a disruptive camo pattern similiar to the WW2 german tank hunters.

i.e like this?

or

continue with the triangles?

I love the Death Korps and your painting of them is perfect. Very nice gritty look. This was the force I had planned to play at one time, but the cost of getting a force together was just too high. I look forward to seeing the army develop.

Your army looked pretty cool on the table. Could not believe how small the drill was though - looks massive on the FW site.

My vote's for keeping with the triangles. I was actually going to comment on how much I like them on the breaching drill before I came to the part where you asked for input

Man, I wish I saw this before painting the first coat of camo.

Here's a few pictures of my enclosed Basilisk using the disruptive camouflage scheme.

Looking very good. I like the weathering on the drill. Rest of the tanks look good as well. Good job. How did you fare against the nids over at Platinum Devil?

Ah, they managed to painfully scatter 10" for deepstrike, then managed to miss with all their democharges (although one did humorously scatter onto a group of termagants). Amazingly, they managed to inflict 5 wounds on a Tervigon with their puny Str3 shotgun butts in combat before getting wiped out by the horde.

Managed to get a little work done on my Leman Russ Vanquisher.

Now.. should I go for rusty weathering or dusty/mud weathering? Or perhaps a bit of both?

I'm liking that effect. Nice and original camo pattern. I think it looks awesome! I'd go with the dust/mud rather than rust.. to me those would go better than orange type rust on tank..... but thats just me... your choice sir!

That's what I was thinking too, it would be easier to weather the tank commander with the same mud effect too (I mean, how can a man's uniform get rusty?).

However.. I was thinking that a tank sitting in a tank emplacement across a trench might get a bit rusty due to inactivity, so i'm probably going to add a little rust on the hinges/worn areas. (also an excuse to use my weathering powders)

One more quick question for those reading... Would a wet muddy/dusty effect look more appropriate for a trench fighting tank or would a dried mud effect look better? The effect i'm looking for is that this tank has been sitting in an emplacement for some time across a typical trench line.
