Hi There,
In the second of our Festive Newsletters, we are pleased to present the next instalment of our Badab War designer interview along with an advance preview of just a few of the many releases that we’ve got lined up for 2011.
Thanks,
Ead Brown
Badab Interview Video Part 2
Hot on the heels of the first part of our Badab War designer interview, we’re proud to announce that part 2 is available to view now http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/News/badabQ&A2.html . If you missed the first part then fear not as it’s still available, along with part 2, and it’s now publicly available on YouTube as well, just search for Forge World Visual Feed.
Once again we’d like to thank Shroudfilm and everyone who sent us their questions. We’ll be bringing you the third and final part of our designer interview later this week, so keep an eye on both www.forgeworld.co. uk and our new Forge World Visual Feed channel on YouTube.
New Forge World Releases Coming in 2011:
Shadow Spectre Aspect Warriors
The first few months of the New Year will see the long-awaited release of the mysterious Shadow Spectre Aspect Warrior Squad. A model from this kit was first unveiled at Games Day UK back in September, and the talented Simon Egan has produced another four Shadow Spectres and is currently working his sculpting magic on an Exarch to lead the unit.
Warhammer Forge
Perhaps the most hotly-anticipated project that we are currently working on, Warhammer Forge made its debut at Games Day UK 2010. We are excited to announce that the first releases for this new range will be available to pre-order early in 2011, and will be followed later in the year by the very first Warhammer Forge book - Tamurkhan: The Throne of Chaos.
Keep an eye out for more details on these and other exciting releases in the Newsletters we have planned from early January 2011 onwards.

Second Badab book is gonna be awesome. It's a great storyline and the models are amazing. I wish they were a bit more easy to get though.

When it said "Eldar Aspect_s_" in plural, I got excited thinking the next IA would contain more than Shadow Spectres. Not that I'm not excited for the Spectres.

i'd doubt it. it looks like a smaller version (complete with the crystal tip) of the new plastic fireprism gun. maybe some kind of a dual statline anti-tank lance and anti-horde small blast? a mini prism gun...

I thought that was the Dark Eldar scourge? Although, I will be pleased as punch (did I actually just write that?) if Light (?) Eldar get a mobile heavy support choice that can sit in the display case and keep company with the D-cannons and so-on while they watch the Prisms and Falcons go off to war. Isn't it awesome that Dark Eldar are getting all of the nifty things that Light Eldar need? I'm sure there will soon be an announcement allowing Venom in the Craftworld list, right? right?
Is there a rumor roundup for Shadow Spectres?

Mini prism gun was confirmed on the last GD UK:
Fraggle wrote:Shadow spectres - have JETpacks rather than jump packs. Similar to Tau use. The weapon is a mini prism which would combine and be anti-vehicle. They are supposed to reflect the spirits of the dead in their appearance, hence the floating.(...)
Cosairs - book puts some focus on raids by corsairs and rangers. Upgrade kit likely (helms, weapons etc).(...)
General story of IA11 is a eldar colony world which 'put into storage' (deep freeze) and forgotten.
Discovered by imperium during Great Crusade.
Small eldar defending force destroyed by SW.
10k years later eldar discover webway portal to planet but then find that the defending force has been killed and replaced with guard/marines.
Series of raids from corsairs/rangers etc before the big craftworld army attacks.
Planet is of significant importance as they need to justify the use of the Phantom.
Cadians + Elysians to be involved (with cold weather upgrades as mentioned in my previous posts)
Space wolves are the marines, concentrating on one Great Company.
Likley to be One SW character and maybe a couple of Eldar.
Eldar also getting fully enclosed war walkers (for the cold)
Another WIP Eldar tank:

They are planning on doing a phoenix lord for the shadow spectres aspect.

Kroothawk is the Roxor
"mini-prism which would combine and be anti-vehicle"
Is that better or cheaper than the "non" mini prism?
I mean, it's a very nice looking model and there is no way that I'm not buying the first new aspect warrior released since before my nephew was born (he's old enough to play the game now). But did they decide on the new aspect model based on a perceived "hole" in the Eldar arsenal, or is it a cosmetic thing? I mean they could just slap swooping hawk wings on Banshees and peeps would snap those up like candy, right? Oh wait, Spectre means they have some kind of stealth field (like Harlequins) -- that would make sense.

1.) Jetpacks provide the ability to move-shoot-move, not just move-shoot.
2.) IIRC they perceived a hole in the arsenal: highly mobile anti-tank aspects. Second aspect will be (kighly mobile?) cc.
3.) Spectre confers to the jetpack and eerie movement, don't think they have a stealth field, but who knows.

Explain this whole ' not allowed to produce' them thing. How can a part of GW be stopped for making products for GW. That seems... counter-intuitive... which in turn seems 100% par for the course as far as GW goes, but even so, this one seems to speak of a specific kind of boneheaded stubbornness.

Here StraightSilver's version of what is behind Rick's departure:
This meant that Rick could effectively do what he wanted without affecting the mainstream Warhammer World, like reintroducing new races like the Chaos Dwarves etc.
However GW then put the mockers on this first of all by saying that Warhammer Forge would be limited in what they could produce in case it affected their core Warhammer sales. For example the plan was to do a range of Chaos Dwarves, which they actually started. Then GW said that they couldn't produce any actual infantry, so the best they could do was make crew for the war machines they had created, but not an actual army!
Then apparently GW found out that at the end of the Warhammer Forge campaign Rick actually wanted to "end" the World in some sort of apocolyptic cataclysm. Of course this would be fine, as it wasn't the "real" Warhammer world but an alternate one. However GW flatly refused to let him do this, despite having written the first of the 3 books, and so I think he had just had enough.
BTW this gives me the opportunity to post the pic of a new Chaos Dwarf crew member attached to the newsletter (thanks to Grimstonefire for pointing this out and enhancing the pic):

I think he means that GW told FW not to make Chaos Dwarf infantry. That fact was referenced in the initial Warhammer Forge reveal thread (same day that Dark Eldar were revealed, think UK Games Day). It was also brought up in the Rick Priestly interview thread. Basically leads me to believe that GW does have plans for a "proper" Chaos Dwarf army. I hope.
Although I am curious about the Warhammer Forge book, because from what I gathered from the Priestly interview, it seemed like GW suits squashed the whole idea.

I would be very surprised if they make a "proper" Chaos Dwarf army. Every reasoning that has been brought forward about denial for the Chaos Dwarf infantry production has been financially motivated, not production conflict issues.
At this point, the best that can really be hoped for is Chas Dwarves being implemented in the Warriors of Chaos list as a full-time thing.

i just posted the comparison pic between the new fire prism and the spectre because happygrunt was wondering if the weapon was going to be a flamer type. since form does generally follow function in 40k (there are exceptions), i figured the similarity between the spectre gun (long lance barrel with dual crystal chambers and identical tip flares) and the plastic fire prism probably meant the gun would be a smaller version of the later. kroothawk seems to be confirming my guess at least partially.
if that is the standard trooper for the new aspect and is that blinged out, i can't wait to see the exarch let alone the phoenix lord!

No, time to put the Funkiller Hat back in the closet.
Paying fan service is not the same thing as "throwing hints", and even less of confirming things.
For example: They added in the Clawed Fiends of the Donorian Sector, a 3rd edition favorite that people liked, for the Dark Eldar Beastmasters. They also still talk about the Everqueen and her Handmaidens in the High Elf book. Does that mean they're coming back too?
They coming, just not anytime soon, most likely.
You weren't one of the "Dark Eldar are never getting a new book and models" crowd too, were you?
I sincerely doubt they're coming. They've got a hard enough time keeping the army book release schedule on track, throwing a new army into the mix(especially one that would basically play as "Spiky Dwarfs") just doesn't seem likely. Especially for an army that never had a proper army book.
P.S. I was one of those saying "Dark Eldar are coming, we just don't know when".

So, those obscure hints are in how many books? Because the Chaos Dwarf 'hints' are in multiple books AND they are also getting WF support.
Good luck on getting that Clawed Fiend model anytime soon.
So...
Apples? Oranges?
I'm serious now, it is OK to not only be wrong every now and then, but to actually admit it too!

I'm excited about new Aspects but I do prefer when I can use the models in 40k. Here's hoping for a female farseer model to stand in for Iyanna.
By the way, GW gets a lot of gak for being a backwards company but these FW videos are the bee's knees in my opinion.
