i just posted the comparison pic between the new fire prism and the spectre because happygrunt was wondering if the weapon was going to be a flamer type. since form does generally follow function in 40k (there are exceptions), i figured the similarity between the spectre gun (long lance barrel with dual crystal chambers and identical tip flares) and the plastic fire prism probably meant the gun would be a smaller version of the later. kroothawk seems to be confirming my guess at least partially.
if that is the standard trooper for the new aspect and is that blinged out, i can't wait to see the exarch let alone the phoenix lord!
No matter how much effort they put into the models, if they don't fit well into the book they won't sell nearly as well. Seems intuitive, but GW tend to miss stuff like this.
Warwick, if you read this (or if any of you get a chance to bend his ear): PLEASE for the love of Khaine put the new aspect in the FA slot! NOT heavy support!
If those were FA, half the Eldar players out there are gonna run out and buy a unit. Reapers that move? Yes please! But if they're HS they won't see the light of day much.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Agreed it would be nice to see some fast attack..or atleast updated hawks, spiders and spears...and these models look real nice i may get atleast two sets but definitely not that tank thing, hopefully they produce tasteful eldar, and another phoenix lord.
Funny how they start to introduce winter aspect to the ig as im making a winter themed army. But my thoughts are on valhallan ice warriors perhaps coming? some frosty nids too?(<--me being sarcastic) maybe some thunder wolf calvary and fenirsian wolves could finally be added.

And yet these potential fanbases, and other groups, keep the flame burning, so to speak, on the whole Chaos Dwarf thing. And GW throws hints in many recent books, and FW/WF makes some stuff for them...
No, time to put the Funkiller Hat back in the closet.
Paying fan service is not the same thing as "throwing hints", and even less of confirming things.
For example: They added in the Clawed Fiends of the Donorian Sector, a 3rd edition favorite that people liked, for the Dark Eldar Beastmasters. They also still talk about the Everqueen and her Handmaidens in the High Elf book. Does that mean they're coming back too?
So, those obscure hints are in how many books? Because the Chaos Dwarf 'hints' are in multiple books AND they are also getting WF support.
Hints do not mean that they are getting an army all to themselves. How is this difficult to understand?
All they are doing is letting you know "We have not squatted this particular piece of background/idea". There's still, for an example, The Fallen in the background.
Does this mean there's going to be Codex: Cypher's Brethren in the pipeline?
Good luck on getting that Clawed Fiend model anytime soon.
I'll have a Clawed Fiend model before you have a Chaos Dwarf army book
So...
Apples? Oranges?
I'm serious now, it is OK to not only be wrong every now and then, but to actually admit it too!
I've admitted I'm wrong before, Alph. But this likely won't be one of those cases.
We'd have some kind of indication that a Chaos Dwarf army book was being considered, or at least a plastic unit was being considered. We've had nothing like that. All we've had is Warhammer Forge and the Hellcannon.
chaosxvoid wrote:Funny how they start to introduce winter aspect to the ig as im making a winter themed army. But my thoughts are on valhallan ice warriors perhaps coming?
No. It's already been confirmed by Forge World the book focuses on the Elysians and Cadians, with both supposedly getting some Ardennes 101st Airborne styled "foul weather gear".
some frosty nids too?(<--me being sarcastic) maybe some thunder wolf calvary and fenrisian wolves could finally be added.
Ehhhhhhhh. I wouldn't hold my breath for Thunder Wolf Cavalry and Fenrisian Wolves. There's been rumours circulating that GW higher-ups are starting to push for FW to only do their own creative stuff, and not touch anything that's in the Codices.
Manchu wrote:I'm excited about new Aspects but I do prefer when I can use the models in 40k.
Pft. Shadow Spectres are an easy one for using in 40k.
If your opponent refuses to let you use their actual rules, counts as "Swooping Hawks".

2.) IIRC they perceived a hole in the arsenal: highly mobile anti-tank aspects. Second aspect will be (kighly mobile?) cc.
3.) Spectre confers to the jetpack and eerie movement, don't think they have a stealth field, but who knows.
SpacePanzee wrote:Is there a rumor roundup for Shadow Spectres?
Where's Kroothawk?
Just realised that my answer came 24 sec after the question
Highly mobile anti-tank -- is Fire Dragons in a Serpent (do we still call that the dragon wagon?) a highly mobile anti-tank? They have to disembark, get shot, then fire next turn, so maybe not.
Does jet pack allow for a deep strike?
The fire prism is a long range weapon, are the Spectres going to have a 48" anti-tank gun that isn't a heavy weapon -- that would be cool. Or do warwalkers already do that? If Spectres were fast attack (which I'm thinking they won't be), that might be useful.
No stealth field? I was thinking something like the Ghost in Starcraft -- invisible until it fires, yadda yadda. Course, I think Starcraft Ghost is probably more like a Tau Stealth with a marker light.
Wait, are you guys saying that you can't use forgeworld stuff unless it's a "friendly" game? Doesn't that discourage sales?

10k pts Eldar (no jetbikes -- how is that possible?)
2k pts 3rd edition Wolves (no werewolves or clifford cavalry -- but I do have a nifty Leman Russ Exterminator shaped paperweight)
3k pts chaos marines

Eh? You can jump out of a vehicle and shoot, you just can't assault... The spectres look awesome, from what I have seen of them. The problem with FW is tht the main design studio look down on the 'little studio' and have hamstrung them in many ways, and FW are not allowed to fill gaps in the main miniature ranges. This also means that for the most part (ie unless they come out in the later codexes: Valkiries etc) they are not Codex, and therefor people who can't/don't understand that GW/ FW is pretty much the same entity and allow them in general play. This is not helped by Warick's inability to write a balanced cost/effect rule.
As an aside, Alan B is a genius, if you chat to him about stuff that he is allowed to talk about the man is a genial walking encyclopedia of knowledge. Thats GW fluff/rules and all sorts of other stuff.
The Badab books are well written and provide a new depth of interest in a small conflict that has been of interest to me for many years, and while I can't wait for the next Eldar book to come, I'm more excited about Badab 2 as I has the details of the Exorcists.

Personally, I wouldn't call them "highly mobile" unless they can do it more than once. A short-ranged unit that has to disembark from their transport, fire, then reembark (assuming they don't get bogged down in melee) doesn't really compare to one that can move-fire-move or use fire ports.

If your opponent refuses to let you use their actual rules, counts as "Swooping Hawks".
Presuming the army list entry says they are usable in a Codex: Eldar army, as has been the case for a number f their recent releases, then you can politely tell your opponent to get fethed, and carry on using them as Shadow Spectres.
Tournaments are another story, thanks to short-sighted TOs, but there should be nothing stopping you using them in normal games of 40k - FW have covered this in a number of there IA introductions.
