Unreal. He's breaking the law, that's for sure. And he may not even have kids or these problems, but I do kind of feel sorry for him.

'Nice' guys finish last. He didn't reach over and check the till. The storekeep got the shallow notes from the left three trays and left the stack of notes in the last tray untouched.
Tactically being polite works in a lot of situations like this, so they victim doesn't panic and cause the perp to fire his gun. Its used a lot, just not this way, the git was giving up rtoo much info, acting normally like that would make him feth easy to recognise, unless the entire thing was an act, and I frankly doubt that.

I couldn't tell whether those were notes or if they were receipts and signatures. Different registers are...different.

I'd rather feel sympathetic to the guy who gets in that situation and works hard to get his way out of it. Not the guy who points a gun at an innocent shopkeeper.

Actually, in all the retail I've worked in the US, we normally have always kept the big bills at the left and worked our way down to the ones in the far right. I don't think the guy was fething around. Who'd have thought you'd run into polite robbery in the States though. Seriously, apparently people here are complete donkey-caves EXCEPT when they're ripping each other off.

ummm....is anyone interested by the fact that he had to buy the gun ($400-$1000), wait 3 days, pick up the coffee, and (heres what gets me) he BUYS the coffee! He got less money than he spent.... Bad Form.

Purchase of the gun vs his age could mean that the gun was in fact a long term investment and could've been purchased a while ago and already made its money back or he could've planned to use it in more robberies.
Also, buying the coffee is largely irrelevant as he'd get the money back from the robbery.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

He could easily have own the gun before the robbery. It's not that uncommon. So, he could have owned the gun a long time before this robbery. That and the coffee is what? A buck? Maybe a buck fifty? He cleaned out the register. I don't think he's at a loss here.
I...still, as bad as I feel for this guy, he did break the law. I hope he gets a minimum sentence. I guess what they say about people refusing to break down to begging is true...

Begging is also against the law in quite a few countries, many more countries have laws restricting areas where people can beg. The family went on tour to France and I saw a beggar there in the Underground. She was dragged off by the police, and that scared the gak out of me after watching too many movies with 'Police State' themes.

I don't hope he gets minimum. Really, I couldn't care less about the guy; the store owner has bills to pay and probably has children and all that crap.
Everyone has bills to pay and kids to feed and gas to guzzle, most of us are dealing with what we have whilst the rest claim other people's money as their own (that goes for greedy fethers and criminals, oftentimes the two groups are related).
Lock him up for the time his crime warrants, discounting politeness or circumstances; he took a gamble when he did it; either win and keep the cash, or lose, get caught and leave his kids and family behind whilst he's stuck in jail getting felt up in the shower and spending quality time with Bubba and his plethora of STDs.
If you had kids to feed, would you really risk getting a criminal record and going to jail? Make it even harder for you to get a job as if it wasn't hard enough?
I don't care if he was polite about it, he committed a crime and got caught; if only this happened to the people who deserved it more.

Surely there's some sort of wellfare support in the US for unsupported children who have parents in Jail?

Not in the US, as far as I know, I have never known to see beggars in a public location be removed just because they were beggars. On private property it's a different story, but as far as I know there's no such law banning begging in the US>
