Just a quick note telling you that I am sharing the progress of my Crystal Brush project on my website - http://www.jrn-works.dk
I have been posting pics of the building process and will show the finished conversion tomorrow. From Friday you get painting process pictures.
Here is the concept art (by myself) - and I am sure the Blanche fans in here can point out at least some of the parts...
And here is the today's picture upload:
I hope you might enjoy browsing through the project
and maybe even support me when it comes to voting on April 1st to 3rd when the competition goes online.

WOW! That is just beautiful (in a Blanchian way). I am so shocked at the lack of response. The Tutu is so beautifully sculpted and the idea is just brilliant.
As for the parts I'm seeing a Skeleton Hoard horses head, *edit I actually think a dark elf horse body* (originally I guessed a marauder horse body) and a Femme Militia torso (but I am at a loss to what she was called). How did I do?
I managed to get my hands on two of the Femme Militia models. I'm in the process of painting Mary Bones, very slowly. The other was Pythrone, who was just possibly my favourite. I had a very unfortunate accident with her that involved break fluid, melting and me crying as she went into the bin . I wish they still sold the range as I'd replace her in a flash.
I'm really looking forward to seeing more of this. (the multi barrelled gun makes her even better).
Good luck
Peter

Well done Peter.
It is indeed one of the classic Plastic skeleton horde horse's head. The horse is a glade rider horse (woold Elves range), and the Femme Militant model is named Gallowglass.
I painted one personally for John Blanche so I got a spare one for myself.
A shame about Pythone. That is one classic model. Very Jes-like.
Today's opdate:
Pics from the painting process starts tomorrow...

I did pretty good...yeah I happy with 2.5 out of 3.
Since I assume you know the man himself.... Do you know why they stopped producing the Femme Militia range?
Nice to see the update on here too.

Apparently something with time-issues. Initially they were 1000 limited model pr design - so they were only to be around for a certain time anyway. However, at some point the last batch got behind schedule, got postponed, or whatever, and John decided simply to move on. I've heard that John wanted the websites (lvxmvndi and femmemilitant) to be up to date or not up there at all. So I guess that is why the models and art has vanished from the www.

Thanks for the response. That is such a shame.... ...well send him some pictures of your "undead horse ballet chick" to get his creative juices flowing again.
I've got to ask, before going to work, I've been looking at that tutu again....just how did you sculpt it? To me it looks like you've actually concertina(ed) the green stuff.

I had to do two attempts before I had the process nailed...

Sorry if I wasn't very clear with the contertina(ed)
I thought you may have actually got a thin piece of gs and bent and shaped it. But your handy pictures have answered that one. Cheers.
Nice to see the painting process....how long in actual time do you think it'll take you to paint her up?
I'm still disgusted at the lack of response...perhaps you should have bunged her in the painting and modelling blogs.

That horse-head is just a classic bit!
Thanks for the idea. I have some similar plans. Dapples and possible a burn-mark like on cattle.
@ PDH: You know that image of the contertina is just fantastic and actually could have been an inspirational bit. The colours the mechanic bits and the sort of 18th cen. reference.
PAinting. Don't know - bu not as long as the buliding process. I tend to paint rather fast these days. But I WILL make sure to take my time.
And then there is the whole basing issue...

I wish I could claim credit for spending ages looking for that image but alas it was the best thumbnail that came up on the first page of google image search.

From looking at your concept I assume the base is going to be square 40mm. With a mound of earth, some slate, three skulls, a couple of slate outcrops and I think there is a scroll on the floor too On a slightly more serious note I was reading* April's White Dwarf (I got a subscription to get the Squat model) and it has a feature on Golden Daemon winners 2010. It took Matt Parkes 4 years to build that diorama and he spent 6 weeks on the banner alone! Now they are some impressive time scales but you only have 14 to 16 days! Good luck.
Peter
* looking at the pictures and thinking I wish this mag was as good as it used to be from about issue 195 to about the Giant release.

Well, skulls (I should be able to fit on a few more than 3) and slate are probably right. I've also found a Cadian helmet which I am going to put a skull inside.
The actual base, however, isn't going to be square 40 mm...

This is looking VERY impresive, I'm also surprised with the lack of responce from this, really looking forward to the finished product, the modeling skills make me slightly jealous And if your painting skills are as good as your modeling, I'm sure you have first place in the bag.

Thanks. Somehow I am really enjoying the process and doing the model kind of in public instead of the usual painting-competition-secrecy adds value to the process I think.
However, for painting competitions nothing is certain and "in the bag" before you hold the trophy in your hand. When commiting to this project I decided on two goals - to really enjoy going to the States for the event (talk to painters, prepare hobby-seminars, and so on) and to share the creative process (I guess this is it). Winning is always a goal in it self, but I am very uncertain waht I will be up against so I am being humble and not counting on anything. Especially when half of the voting score is decided by online voting. Or put differently, if you like the project you can help me along during the Adepticon weekend April 1st to 3rd and vote for the project. But DO vote fair!
