I am starting my first army, or at least I am going to attempt it. I was given a Necron Destroyer as a gift, and I think I am hooked. I notice that Necrons don't seem to get any love from the gaming community, but aesthetically and story wise I love em. So I am going to give it a shot. I haven't picked up any warriors or army sets yet, so for a while it will be one little guy at a time.

Now for the work in progress part. I started my first warrior. I picked him up as a singleton, rather than the group. I ran out of mad money. I don't like the basic stance of the Necron warrior. I have seen a lot of leg modifications on various finished figures so I decided to give it the leg modding a try. I cut off both legs at the hip and redid the hip ball. His right leg was also cut apart at the right knee and straightened. I left his left leg up so he could be stepping up onto a base detail. For my first try at modifying something so small I am really happy with it so far. I don't think I will have the patience to do every squad member this way, but maybe each squad leader or figures I want to flesh out a little more personality into will have it done.

Nice start!

Necrons are rumored for a new release sometime this year so I'm sure we'll see plenty of them popping up sooner or later!

The new stance does look a lot better than standard, good work. You could probably get some tiny beads from a hobby shop to use as the replacement joints rather than GS. This would speed up the whole re-positioning process so you could do more of them but remember patience really is the key to most things in this hobby!

Yeah I keep hearing rumors about the rumors. I have also snagged a destroyer lord and tomb spyder on the cheap so my lonely warrior and destroyer will have some company. I am hoping to get a battle force next month.

I call him Normon.
There are more pics of him in the finished minis section.

Looking good! It's not the gaming community that gives them little to no love, its GW. They passed over Necrons in 4th because they were ubber powerful in that edition, but 5th nerfed the army in a bad way and thus the lack of attention from the gaming community, because we are simply uncompetitive at this time.

Thanks guys, I got a bunch of bases in the mail today so I can start modding up more legs.

Excellent work. Necrons was my first army and i really enjoyed them, they are great modeling wise as it is easy to do an almost all plastic army. In all honesty they are also a blast to play although they have gotten slowly less competitve since i started playing at the end of 4th. but still hopefully with the next codex they will get alot more love.

And my lonely warrior is about to start getting some friends. There is something a little unnerving about having a small jar of legs and a small jar of spines.

The pose looks great, and should be nice to see fully painted. Don't forget to clean the mold lines, I would hate to see a well done army not fully cleaned up.

love the pose. I bet it gives your 'cron a lot more hight.

God knows I wish I had done that with mine... but that's hindsight

+1 on the mold lines. It's amazing how such a little thing can have a massive effect on the finished thing.

Looking forward to seeing how these pan out [you might have even inspired me to redo mine... but must finish orks first]

So now I am torn, they look so much better with different leg poses than they do with the "i'm going to poop" stock pose, but to even start a workable army I need at least 20 warriors. Do I want to do that many?

YES!

Seen as you are not in a rush to get this army done, you will really regret not going the extra mile! If you were like "i've got 1000 pts to paint in two weeks for a tourney" then it might be a bit different!

I now have 8 spines removed and 16 hip joints rebuilt. Once the hip bones cure, I will start working on angles.

And they are now legged. Tomorrow all the green stuff will be cured the superglue will have set and I can begin basing them. I need to get some more chests, I am a couple short of a full squad here I think.

Some interesting poses there. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. The one above, with all but the arms and weapon, looks very good indeed!

yeah the hard part of these is getting a natural position. I helps that I imagine the Necrons as the shambling robotic undead of the universe. And besides. Necrons Hunch.

Good to see more dynamic poses.

Now you just need to sort some out in rar-rar skirts and model a chorus line

How did you know?
I am thinking about trying to do a kneeling, tracker type pose.

What do you plan to do with the Immortals (if you use them)?

Very nice work.

Ok I got my iconic, some would say cliche, Crystal Walker Necron Warriors onto bases. The bases are standard 25mm GW, with a blob of Aves spread out on top. I used an old chunk of mortar from inside a brick to press a sand texture into the Aves. The crystals are my own custom casts from molded quartz points. I can do them in just about any color, but I went traditional Necron power crystal green. I have begun working on customizing arms and weapons for them, which may take a while, and heads are in the mail. I'm excited, I liked working on these little guys way more than I expected to. I will start cutting apart some more legs today or tomorrow. Any opinions on bases for Necrons?

Nice work. I disagree. I think Necrons, played to their strong suits, can still be a viable army even before the new codex. Nice work on these as a Necron player I have to say they are quite nice. Love the gems. You could sell some of those as objectives etc, and have at least one customer already...

I don't know what the policies are for promoting my own stuff but here is a link to where I sell the crystals and other castings. The crystals are really the only thing I have in there that would work with 40K, the rest is all 1:18 scale.
