My Eldar up for CnC again, have made some changes but there still feels like something is missing in the vehicles. The infantry are very much early WiP's but the main colour blocks are in place on the DA's. Any helpfull advice is welcome

Thanks for looking

I really like how smooth the colors are.

I'd like to see highlights on the weapons and the grey/silver areas, though. You could use the same technique that you used to paint the lightest green on the windshields to pick out some of the areas where the sections of hull meet, and along the outer edges.

edit: I also wanted to say: I really like the way the off-color stripes turned out on the hull of the tank with the large gun. I might have to steal that if I ever paint a metallic army.

Sweet jetbikes, what heads are those? Also what are those fantastic models that seem to be floating in the wind?

Very cool looking army. How did you do the metallic red?

The Jetbikes seem to be straight up DE Jetbikes (those heads are on the sprues) with the spikes shaven off. The Models in the wind are Shadow Spectres from FW I think.

Great job on the metalic red. very crisp coloring and overall fits with a lightning fast army.

Cheers, yes the floaty guys are the FW Shadow Spectres but I have de-rocked them and left off a lot of the robe pieces as I felt they were a bit too much. Lovely minis to put together though.

I love the new DE jetbikes, and all I have done is de-spike them. I had plans to change the fins, but could not find anything quick and easy at the time so left them alone.

Agreed on the stripes comment.

What are those vehicles in the first picture? I don't recognize them. Did they put out new Vypers? Are they counts-as War Walkers? Some Forge World thing?

Might I ask what that paint is that you're using that's kind of metallic sort of? I'm looking for a paint-on (rather than spray-on) metallic black paint to do masks for my Necrons and not meeting with much success.

Anyway, very well done!

I just realised the windows are painted....

I also love the falcon conversions. I was too busy looking at the paintjob. XD

From what it looks like to me is we have:

3 Eldar Hornets (1 with EML and 2 Scatter Lasers) - Forgeworld

Falcon with a few added features, but mainly using the new Fire Prism turret. I wouldn't be surprised if the weapons are magnetized and interchangeable.

An actual Fire Prism

Warp Hunter (Forgeworld)

Harlequin Shadow Seer

Shadow Spectres (Forgeworld)...FYI, they just came out with the Exarch for these guys.

Dire Avengers

DE Jetbikes...and I agree, I like those heads too. They would make intimidating Wraithguard.

I love the colors and the painting is very crisp. But I think I understand what you mean about something missing. Now if I could offer a suggestion...take that blue used on the Dire Avenger guns and use it for the Saim Hann glyphs. You need just a dab of another color on there and I think that blue would tie everything together.

Just adding a few extra pictures, this element of the list is completed. I have however been corrupted further by FW and am getting the new Wraith Seer when it comes out, and possibly a trio of Wasps as it would be rude not to. To go with it I have two 'old skool' metal wraithlords with the smaller wraith heads. Anyway, here are some weapon/army shots.

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Not so sure about how well the speckled paint works on the infantry models, but it looks good on the vehicles.

I love the coloured metallic stripe on the destroyer waveserpent (or whatever it is ) and the stripes on the jetbikes.

Certainly an interesting colour scheme anyway

The paint looks ok in person, honest. It's my camera, it really doesn't like taking macro pics or it's me not using the right settings. The red bikers are just blood red with a highlight but they are coming out sparkly too. I think I need to do some more research into photography techniques (or read the handy advice at the top of the page).

That's a beautiful army CJ... vehicles are phenomenal. The red and the pink metallic just work together so well. Also really like the helmets on the bikers. Great work!

Absolutely gorgeous.

Ive always wanted to do up some Eldar, but the farthest I got is a guardian squad and a wraithlord. I dont have the skills to truly do them justice. Eldar seem to reward great painting skills better than any other 40k army.

Very cool army, love how you used the Reaver Bikes instead of Eldar Jet Bikes. I am just not sure if its metallic pink or a really light metallic purple. Looks OK but just a little off.

Looks to me like a layered effect. Base is a silver with a light purple/pinkish top coat. Im not sure which coat is carrying the metallic, my guess would be the base.

Your paint just looks a little flat to me, it's smooth and a lovely color but it's flat, I don't know how hard it would be to add more shade and or highlights?

Nope its specialist airbrush paints from here http://www.thecustompaintshop.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=42 , and the effect doesn't really picture very well. The red panels are deliberatly flat to offset the way the purple colour works.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm now getting the hang of using them in anger, and I am reducing the endless swarm of lesser beings in the name of the Bloody Handed God!

Ah I see. Same effect can be had by using a high metallic silver base coat and "candy" colors. The candy spray paints are easy to find at RC car shops. They are essentially a semi-transparent paint that you layer on.
