Afternoon chums

Im off camping next weekend, and I want enough booze to last me two fulls days and nights in a field.

I need to know, just where IS the best place to buy your ale?

My mate said Netto, I wasnt impressed, I usually just get a few crates from Morrisons, but im wondering if anyone has any hidden gems to inform me about.

Aldi? Tesco? Asda? A cash and carry? Car boot sales? Direct from breweries? Web sites?!

Tell me some good info, cos im gonna need about 100 cans/bottles, and I have two weeks to get it all ordered.

Suggestions?

ASDA used to be consistently cheap for run of the mill beers n such.

Those dodgy off licenses that suddenly appear in the town centre, run by swathy foreign gents with one blind eye, are usually good and cheap, especially for spirits (and watch the sell by on some of their beers...).

I am highly surprised and disappointed that you have not yet obtained a shed of your own Matt and are not already brewing all manner of beers or wines. It's something I've been considering for some time myself.

Every man of substance deserves a good shed for this sort of thing.

100 cans...

Sweet Jesus and Mary Chain! That's a lot of booze for 48 hours!

I would go with Lidl - Oranjeboom is fairly cheap and gets you fairly mullered in short order, as I recall. Tesco is currently selling two crates for about £16 I think?

Alternatively, you might want to consider hitting up your local school supplier for a bottle of science class grade Meths...

Im too lazy in that regard, mainly because every homebrew ive tasted has been pretty awful.

Asda is apparently the cheapest of the big supermarkets, if I dont learn of some gucci website or something I might have a drive over on Saturday..

How you finding all the Yank beer? I musta drank about 200 different micro brews my last holiday, New Belgium, Stone, Firestone... they really dont deserve their poor reputation here in Europe.

Its all Budweisers fault!

Asda usually do some good deals but you have to go to their mega stores for them.

Mate dont you remember Kendal calling?!

I took two crates of 24 cans and a 4 litre Keg of Heiniken and it was gone By Saturday, dont you remember the emergency supermarket sweep?

When your up at 8am drinking in the sun, you tend to knack about 30 cans before bed.

I've just come back from Northern Ireland, and I don't think I drank that much in 4 days...

Waitrose do have a good selection.

Your only a little feller so why not go with junior beer (cider) and half your load?

Sainsburys have a suprising large selection of this apple based treat at the moment and have a few offers on to boot.

It is, and much like the poor Aussies get a rep for Fosters (or horse piss to give it it's full latin name), it's unfounded (try Victoria Bitter some time for a good Oz beer).

I've found Yuengling and Sam Adams to be very good commercial beers and the place is teeming with microbreweries like this one local to me which does a great blonde beer.

They can be fairly hipster places to drink but the ale is worthwhile.

Ahh, its good to see you enlightened to the ways of Yuengling. If you ever get the chance, take the tour of the brewery. The tour ends in a cave... Its Americas Oldest Brewery after all.

Makro.
I get crates of Kopperburg cider (15 bottles to a crate) for £15.

The RRP of Kopperburg is between £2-4, depending on how much you get ripped off.

Morrisons often does a good selection of ales, I particularly like Black Sheep.

If you can find some I recommend Crabbie's alcoholic ginger beer.

Oh yes, pretty spicy and as strong as an ale. Wife drinks it if we go to Wetherspoons.

The problem is if you drink too much of it you start to sweat ginger.

Matty, how are you transporting the booze? And is glass a problem?
Cos Old Speckled Hen in a can is cheap and drinkable, and pretty strong.
(I hope the 100 cans are fot you and your mates though, otherwise you'll be literally drinking two an hour every hour.)

If you're looking to be hammered for 48 hours, why not just load up on hard liquor and save yourself a weeks worth of calories? Get some different mixers and you can have all sorts of options.

Go to makro or costco, sign up for the cash and carry and you can get yourself a boat load of snacks to vomit up as well. You can also get a gazillon wash box of Persil to wash your clothes with after you come home.

Cash and Carrys are ace.

Depends on the timing mate.

Asda generally runs offers around every holliday of 3 crates for £21.

time it right and stock up all year round.

Quick warning though, spirits seem to go up in Asda at the same time as beer dropping in price.

So, alternate your drinking pattern with the months of the year

Lucky for me theres a small store right down the street that sells nothing but booze, and they have pretty good beer prices. So when I get into the drinking mood, its right there. Dunno what they hell its called though, the sign that it used to have on its front, looks like it fell off a decade ago
