Having seen these on the forge world open day pics, I dropped Forge World an e-mail to ask when they would be available.

They replied to say they will be available to order at the end of this week.

Huzzah!

I assume there will be other new things available too, but time will tell.

Cool. Bet this can't be good news for Chapterhouse however!

I do not see it hurting us, every player has the choice of what they want to use. Now they have another choice. If anything players have more variety they can add to their armies. It is ok as well, as some people do not want to pay $1.35 a resin shoulder pad, and our store is not supported only by Salamanders items. For a while now we have had Salamander/Dragon Rhino accessories as well as pads for Terminators and those sell very well despite having competition from Forge Worlds kits.

On the personal note, am not a big fan of that drake shoulder pad icon (its not great to paint for me, that small pebbly surface is hard to detail), so its not to my personal taste. I do like the old style Heavy Weapons though.

I would guess it won't hurt CH too much for two reasons:

1. It just gets you more variety and if it gets more people to get into Salamanders it might get them more sales.

2. Forge World is more expensive plus the shipping overseas can get expensive so maybe it is a different audience / market.

Either way it sounds good to me because forge world does some great products.

I'm always happy when I hear about new conversion pieces being released by companies like GW, FW, and CH.

It means to me that there is one less obstacle between them making something more for the other less produced Chapters and Legions, such as the Iron Warriors.

I saw some on Warseer I think (I googled Forge World Salamander Pads and set the time scale for 1 month).

They are pretty much the Terminator pad Salamander Icon put on some Power Armor pads, with the occasion purity seal or raised rim and rivets.

It is good that Forge World are releasing these pads.

Never regret painting Ultras!

Also, I really like these shoulder pads but seeing them on does remind me that the purity seals limit posing.

The Astral Claws stuff (which includes LR doors but no rhino doors that I know of) is what really excited me!

Have to say, im not a fan. The Drake looks 'stuck on' to me. I mean, i guess they probably are, but it looks like theres a 'lip/overhang' between the back of the head and the rest of the shoulderpad which looks wring to me.
Shame really cos i am a fan of Salamander extras, just not these ones :(
Thanks Manchu for the pics btw

It's not so much 'stuck on' as it is done as 'raised relief'.

Not uncommon at all for these Chapter specific shoulderpads. What's more...it's actually the 'best' way to do it. Recessed detail doesn't get attention on a model, raised details do.

If you want it to look like 'part' of the shoulderpad, there's stickers. If you want something fancier and more artifact-y, you'd have raised detail.

o no, i know why its done like that, its just personal preference, IMO its 'too' raised thats all If that makes sense? a bit more curl to them so they are more flush with the surface even.
Otherwise, i think the actual detailing in them is great, and im not surprised thats the best way to do it, it makes sense.
thanks for 'raised relief' btw kanluwen, couldnt for the life of me think of the term (hence me using 'stuck on' )

Isn't that Rhino and LR Astral Claws doors in the shelf directly underneath the Astral Claws shoulder pads?

It's pretty dark, but it looks like the Astral Claws emblem to me.

You should really look at the other shoulderpads. This is how they do it on basically all of them, right down to not having much 'curl' to them.

You don't want the icon being too flush with the surface because otherwise, the detail gets lost.
At the same time, you don't want it too raised because then it loses its detail.

This looks like it's a case of 'perfect' relief, with the fact that the photo was taken from behind making it seem like there's more depth than there likely is because of the shadow.

I really like Salamanders, they are the chapter I chose when I began 40K ( about 2 years ago) So I wasn't just trying to power game Vulkan builds or anything.

However I have never liked the third party attempts at detailing the drake face.

I would absolutely love a shoulder pad just like those except it's just a plain raised icon like the salamanders transfer icon, and the scale type detail is on the left over space so the icon is plain but raised from the rest of the pad, still following the curve like these do.

If only I had the Greenstuff skills :(

I'm always impressed with Forge Worlds offerings, level of detail that they manage on that scale is just amazing to me. And that goes the same for anyone else that does this kind of thing, such as Scribor and Chapterhouse.

Hell, this about the best I can do an that scale...

The Kan is right. I've got a stack of various resin Chapter pads, both Power Armour and Terminator Armour, for my Deathwatch Army and they look really good. The detail is crisp, and they look fantastic.

It's just a pity that I don't need 10 Salamander Shoulder pads. I only need like, two or three.

And I had no idea they were doing Astral Claws stuff. That's pretty cool.

i have seen the others and some of them arent quite as 'bad' as this (not saying they are bad, just as an example)
i wouldnt want it to lose any detail, the detail on them is fantastic, what i would like is for the Chapter icon to look like it was made to fit onto a rounded surface. for example, take the second picture Manchu posted, where there are the pads and only one marine fully visible. It looks like theyve made a shoulderpad, and a beautiful Chapter icon and then slapdashed them together. It doesnt look attached properly thats all (it looks wonky for a start, and i can clearly see that the spines from the back of the icon are raised and not attached to the rest of the pad)

However, its good to see the Sallies getting some love, heres hoping they get some more

Hrmm..

Anyone else think the way they displayed these pads vs other products is a bit "different"? Something is off to me.

Paint Job, I even seem to see some flash on the edges.
