I am thinking of making some sort of model to represent the Doomsday Device.

http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m2440055_Chaos_Space_Marines_Datasheet_-_Doomsday.pdf

I have no idea where to start. The datasheet doesn't give any indication as to the size of it. I'm guessing it needs to be pretty big seeing as how devastating it can be.

Has anyone made one and could you post a pic showing thr size? Any ideas as to how to model it would be very welcome as well.

THIS i liek the sound of. Really dont fancy just havign a ginat gun or a random bomb.

Think i may have an idea. How about i make the weapon to be powered by a rogue Psyker?

Use the FW model:

Have model on top of a machine, maybe inside a glass/plastic continament moduel (read plastic cup). Have some sort of pylons around it connected to the container by cables (guitar wire).

Only a basic idea so not sure exactly how to do it. Fill the container with that GW water effect stuff and call it nutrient fluid? Stain the plastci green so it looks more spooky and powerful?

Would probably base it on a CD so i would have some room to put other decorations/models etc. Might use my 3 OOP obliterators as Dark Servitors who are there to maintain the equipement. I was thinkof using soem walls from one of the cities of death buildings to make the base of the machine, does mean it woudl be quite tall though. Also not sure of the dimensions of the FW rogue psyker model. I'm guessing it is abotu the size of a guardsman?

Lol, i was actualyl going for something similar to Doc Ocks machien from spiderman 2.

It's going to be painted up with a black base and Tin Bitz drybrush. Then put on some dark flesh and blazing orange for rust patterns.

That looks fantastic. If it puts it into a bit of perspective, there's a rhino door on the front of the DDD. Yours is plenty big though. It makes more sense too. A big black box? How's that supposed to explode a battlefield?

Done. I tried to add some rivets along the seams on the base but it was too fiddly and i thought if i mess up it will ruin the whole thing.

Oooh, very good weathering on the device. Never heard of this thingy before, and I prefer your version than the strange coffin machine in the datasheet.

Have you considered using pop rivits? they might add the whole "oo random circler bits which must have an unknown" purpose to the machine

other than that :3 loving it

what are pop rivets?

I git a rivet sheet from Bits and Kits (a sheet of plasticard with different sized rivets sculpted on). But the amouns i needed meant it woudl have been really difficult (for me anyway) to cut them out and make them look even half decent.

I really like that doomsday device. Great idea. Pop riverts are also called blind rivets, if you still don't know what they are GFGI.

Its a cheep way of attaching two surfaces together without welding gluing fitting or fusing

http://www.bayrivet.com/images/img_pop_rivets_factors.gif

thats what happens

there simple to use but saying that i cant recally if it can be used on plastics but im sure there will be some since they use them often enough on buses to attach plastic sheets

Quick final update.

used the Device for the first time in a 5k game yesterday.....OMG!!!!!

Managed to roll a 6 to activate it in turn one. it was game over by turn 4.

Turn 1: rolled an apoc barrage (place the flower template anywhere onthe tabel, resolve at S8, AP3 apoc barrage 4 - vehicles hit on side armour). ---Took out a Manticore and some guardsmen

Turn 2: rolled a "Beams of Destruction" (D6 Sd, SP2 72" range) - rolled a measly 1 and killed a single LRBT

Turn 3: barrage again - killed 6 Space Marines, 7 guardsmen and blew the gun off a LR Punisher

Turn 4: The DADDY!!!! Rolled an 11 and got D3+2 (4 in this case) Apoc Blast (10") S10 AP1. Can be placed anywhere on the table!!! This one kill a LRBT, a LR Executioner, another Manticore, the remianing Punisher, a IG platoon command squad, a squad of guardsmen, an IG Heavy Weapons team, a full squad of Space marines. and won me the game. Once this was done the opposing army was an immobilised Vindicator and a terminator assult squad, whcih my 'xerkers wiped out in the assault phase after my havoc popped their Land Raider with a Lascannon.

Highly reccomended, potentially deadly. if i had rolled a 12 instead of an 11 in turn 4 it woudl have exploded with a 6D6 explosion! But SO much fun to use. More than made up for it's 400 point price tag.

That's a fething nice piece.

On an aside, I wish that GW would provide size guidelines for the apocalypse pieces. One of the TFG's that I had the misfortune to play against had made one of these out of a plastic baby food container turned upside down with some sprue and misc. gubbins glued to it with a token chaos star. It was TINY and largely unassailable, as he put it in a building. I mean seriously? The thing has 3 structure points.

It was almost as lame as the Silver Tower of Tzeench fielded by the same guy, which was a silver spray painted Pringles Tube with some plastic Tzeench gubbins and gargoyle heads from the Chaos Vehicle Accessory sprue.

You get some awesome conversions for Apoc, and then you get the "convert it enough so that I can field it, doesn't matter what it looks like as long as I win" TFG builds.

OK - I'm making one of these for my next project! I have to say yours looks miles better than the GW one. As for rivets, if you still want to add some - Hobbycraft (the craft shop that does stuff you'd never even thought of) do a sheet of half spherical self adhesive 'beads' which are about 3 or 4mm in diameter. But you are going to have to venture into the jewellery making section to get them!

So you get an idea of how nasty the final shot was.....This is the only before pic i coudl find (forgot to take any more pics). This is the deployment at Turn 1. but we hardly touched anything in that back corner until Turn for coz the Leman Russ formations and manticores kept killing our charges.
Anyway, by turn 4 the back-right corner was pretty much as in this picture, minus 1 manticore and plus a squad of marines that my team redeployed (by using the disruption beacon asset) intot her corner behind all the tank where they were trapped until turn 4.....when they died.

After the big templates ahd all been resolved the back-right corner had 2 marines and a Dreadnought that was locked in combat left....completely clear as far as the drop pod.
