I am angry.

I seriously placed an order on FW 2 hours ago. Had I known these were coming today, I would have waited, and gotten a Praetor instead of a few other things.

I was just thinking almost the same thing when I saw the size comparison pic with the chimera. Out of curiosity, would anyone here have too big of a problem with using a praetor as a squadron of two manticores? They're about the same footprint and I think that might be cool to use in games where superheavies aren't allowed or would be unbalanced.

They also put up the experimental rules for the praetor...

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/p/preatorrules1.pdf

as well as an apoc formation....

Yup, that's the pic I was referring to. What about using it as a stand in for two manticores (which are on chimera chassis)?

All we get so far with the rules are AA Missiles

Although I think I can make out the other warheads are Ordnance Barrage 3 or something.

Pretty nice model.. Although not sure of the purpose behind paying 300pts for 2 AA missiles when you can get hydras for like 50pts!

Hopefully the other missiles are cool, but not like it matters as you have to use this for apoc and usually you play apoc with friends who modify rules anyhow

Any one know when they are going to remove those "Forbidden" Lines... do I have to wait for it to be printed in a book? Just curious as I don't think I have run into that before. Granted I haven't financially been able to look at FW before so that might have something to do with it...

The Praetor and Crassus are going to be in Imperial Armour 11 in all likelihood, so yeah I'd say you'll have to wait.

meh.. the forbidden thing on the experimental rules is dumb.. how can you experiment if there's nothing to experiment?

that said, I was considering a Crassis or Gorgon, but I really think this is what I'm gonna go with. The emperor gave my troops 2 feet, so they can walk.

The Praetor Launcher is dead sexy.

Since it's meant to be an IG homage to the Whirlwind, I'm betting the hidden payloads are 7" blasts. One will be about S8 AP3, and the other will be about S7 AP4 but denies cover.

Just a wild ass guess, though.

bah i was hoping the preator coulda been use din normal games.......

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

I am not a fan of Super Heavies in my normal games.

Apoc is fine. Planet Strike is a maybe. But not normal games.

However, Sgt. Roadkill, if your group will let you use it in normal games, go ahead. On that same token, would you let them use fliers in normal games? Or titans?

But there's been hundreds of threads on that topic and I don't want to derail this thread of the Awesome Praetor. <--- Admitted hyperbole.

I figured they would. However I would have pay an extra like 50 bucks to get this, and the money just isn't there right now.

Plus, this means I can now save up and order 3 of them for apoc

Oh good, the preator can take a hunter killer missile. It's also good to see that they updated the contemptor sheet and altered it pretty heavily. To bad they have to do the idiotic redactions, now I have to continue to wait and not purchase the model so that I don't screw myself when something I want more comes out. Losing business GW.

Wow, they did a horrible job of redacting these. If you look carefully, you can make out what most of the other letters are. From what I can make out (an I maybe wrong), it looks like the other two Preator Rounds are:

18-140" Str 8 AP 3 Ordnance Barrage 3, 5" blast, primary weapon, twin linked.

and

18-140" Str ? (really can't read it) AP 4 Ordnance Barrage 3, 5" blast, primary weapon, twin linked, no cover save.

On second thought, they maybe two shots each to match the AA rounds, but it looks like blurred threes.

Wow, looks like a Marine eater. Question, though - "primary weapon"? That doesn't mean anything, right?

The Praetor is great looking. I like the Crassus chassis a lot and glad they're doing something "useful" with it. I love the way the Crasssus looks but as I understand it it's rules and purpose are pretty underwhelming. I'm not an IG player so perhaps I'm wrong.

Moving on to other chassis, ughhhhh. I really disllike the Contemptor, have I mentioned that before? Snicker. I am an enormous fan of all things walker, but I still can't get over the legs. It's a fat little mecha. The new assault cannon really just makes it look identical to a very large terminator.

I also have conceptual problems with it, mind you. Aside from the fact that I have long since tired of them plumbing the depths of the Heresy for "ideas" - no reason they can't come up with a new modern Dreadnought and just say a new STC was discovered - it also simply looks nothing at all like the model it "evolved" into. All the older marks of Boltguns and Armor look like cruder versions of the modern one. This dreadnought looks virtually nothing like a modern dreadnought, and indeed, has substantially better stats- although it costs more, it's also better in nearly ever way. That begs the question - if they were building these kickass dreads that were fleet, were stronger, has invulnerable saves, why did they ever stop making them in the first place?

It also, correc me if I'm wrong, nearly eliminates any good reason to ever take a Venerable Dreadnought, right? They're almost the same price and the Contemptor is better in virtually every way, right?

I believe primary weapons in Apoc get a 4+ save to ignore stun/shaken/weapon destroyed stuff that would normally affect them. As for the last part, the terminator is basically a smaller version of the dreadnought (tactical dreadnought armor) so I do see a reason for the similarity. Either way, to each his own. People seem to be raving about the turn the Fantasy Ogres have taken in their styling but I find it ugly. Aesthetic preference has no right answer.

Venerables lose 1 point of armor but have the venerable rule and 1 more ballistic skill. The venerable rule is generally better then a 5+ save in shooting and significantly better then a 6+ in close combat. That said, the contemptor is much better with fleet and better costing. Basic marine dreadnaught's aren't very good, and Venerables are fairly overcosted; so trying to match them is unwise.

I'm not an Apocalypse player, so thanks for the info, I was curious about that.

And, you know, that's a great point. If the argument is that the Contemptor was a precursor not of Dreadnoughts, but of Tactical Dreadnoughts... that kind of makes a lot of sense. Both in the styling, and in the invulnerable saves.
