Dads side:
My great grandad was a tailor and worked in Armagh
My grandad was a nurse
My dad was a contractor and worked on Lansdowne road stadium
My great grandma was a housewife
My grandma opened a shop in their living room

Mams side:
My great grandad died of a heart attack in WW2 after surviving for like 3 years.
My grandad was a lorry driver with questionable ties to the north
My great grandma worked in a factory
My grandma was a stay at home wife but could probably beat Brock Lesnor in a fight (seriously)
My Ma is a lecturer in psychology

Sounds timid compared to yours, Ineptus, but I am the tallest our family has ever produced, so our family can only get better.

Dang, I need to learn more about my past family members as all I know is my immediate family:

Father's side:

Grandfather - pastor of a non-denominational church (Church of the First Born I believe, I only went for approximately the first 10 years of my life, died of stroke shortly after sermon)
Grandmother - stay at home wife (still alive, a rather tall lady, 6'0" even with a small hunch in her back due to age and bad back, probably where my height came from as I am 6'3")
Father - Ford diesel mechanic (had scholarships to go to trade school but never did because of disputes for living, honestly he did not need to but could have lived an easier life)

Mother's side:

Grandfather - pastor of a non-denominational church, truck driver, and Sears repairman (same church, I think, he has also died but to skin cancer and was kinda sudden)
Grandmother - stay at home wife (still alive, active woman, constantly travelling, realitively short and light weight)
Mother - stay at home wife, owner in a Paso Fino tack online business (built just like her mother, but does not travel near as much

My brother and I are the first two in the family (by blood, do have an Aunt In-Law who is a pharmacist) who have earned a Bachelor's Degree (both of us in Computer Science). Also have another brother who followed in my father's footsteps and worked on vehicles, works for the maintenance department for Uniroyal (Michelin Tire Factory).

Perhaps unsurprisingly I have no known ancestors that took part in the American Civil War.
There is a drystone wall in a field nearby who claims to be the descendant of Thomas Jonathan Jackson.

I don't know a lot about my extended family on my dad's side more than one generation back.

Every once in a while I'll hear someone make a cryptic statement about "the incident" and "why that one grandmother committed suicide" but no one wants to give up any further details. Oh well, that's Dunwich, MA for you.

Must admit that is pretty cool, even if he was on the wrong side.

Have no knowledge of anyone past my great grandparents.
My father's grandfather went missing in action on the first day of the Somme.

Well where do I start? My Uncle did a genealogy report for the final exam of a college class...I read it and this is basically what I got from it...

Grandfather on my dad's side:

Came from Scotland and Ireland...recorded line goes back to the days of William Wallace. My ancestors came over the pond some time before the Revolution, apparently some stayed behind in what is now the UK so theoretically I should have some distant family that lives over there.

Back then Scots and Irish weren't treated very well, but one of the men on that side was in the 69th infantry regiment during the Civil War...there's an old family joke that he was the only man to ever be both "Fully Scottish and fully Irish"

Later on my grandfather's grandfather decided he wanted to get into WWI but America wasn't interested, so he jumped the border into Canada and joined the Cannucks for what was called "Canada's hundred Days" Fought in places like Flanders and Ypres...real gakky stuff...

Also there's record of a man on the side of the family that stayed in Britain that fought in a highlander regiment during Crimea...later somewhere down that line there's also a man who was in a Royal artillery regiment during WWII.

Also my dad was in Force Recon during the Persian Gulf...now he's a cop...

Dunno much about my grandmother on my dad's side as she died when my dad was 16...sad story really.

Grandmother on mom's side was completely Cherokee Indian. My great grandfather (grandmother's father) lived on a preservation for part of his life.

Grandfather on mom's side...came from both England and Scandinavia, recorded back to the time of the vikings, the English ancestry also hold's our family crest and recounts of one Sir Evans as one of my ancestors...there's also some old family legend that we're related to royalty.

One man in that line fought with his brother during the Revolution...and later there were three brothers that fought during the Civil War, although two of them were on the Confederacy's side and the oldest was on the Union's side.

My grandfather's uncle went to Europe during WWII, fought with the 1st Infantry Division, saw Italy, France, Germany, and a few other places, met Eisenhower and Monty, and brought back a few medals and some souvenirs...

That's all I can think of off the top of my head...

That's probably a pretty good assumption...here's an example...

Did anyone here know that Douglas MacArthur and Winston Churchill were distant cousins?

hey! Did anyone know that _________ and Forrest Norman the IVth are cousins?

Guess which one is me...

...its really interesting to know who you are related to...at least for me, I enjoy looking at a person and then seeing that they were related to this really famous person and laughing at the dissimilarities...

I asked my stepbrother why he was not interested in his family's genealogy and he replied that since most of his ancestors were German, he didn't want to know whether one of his great grandfathers tried to kill a bunch of Jews or something...

Reminds me of a story my friend told me about his grandfather...guy was driving a tank in the Battle of the Bulge and had a Panther fire a round which hit the front plate ricocheted up and put a hole through the barrel of the tank's cannon...

Needless to say, they jumped ship pretty quickly afterwards...and I was surprised to see the same exact story on a History channel documentary about a year or so afterwards...truth is often stranger than fiction...
