Well...I'm sure the chain of relatedness on most people on Dakka...if there is indeed any...would probably go back to centuries...by that time the blood is so diluted with other stuff you've got two completely different people and two completely different families...

So yeah, there might be a few that are related by some marriage during the Middle Ages but that really doesn't mean anything...

I was joking...

I am surprised by all the people I have found to be related (not that distantly) to.

What are the chances?

In WW1 one of my mother's uncles was late back from leave and issued with a field punishment. He was tied to an artillery wheel. Unfortunately the Germans attacked and he was killed.
The story as told was that he was shot during the attack, but I think it may have been artillery fire, but not sure.

Sounds pretty cool for the most part! As for that relation to the confederacy, don't feel bad....Im directly related to Chief Justice Taney, the Judge who made the Dread Scott decision.....on a brighter note im also directly related to General Andrew Atkins Humphreys, union general in the civil war who served under Meade.

My family has all kinds of wacky stories on my dad's side the only side I really follow. Supposedly, my great grandfather (who came here from Sicily despite owning a quarry in Naples) was a vice president of the long island railroad and a member of the mafia. But come on, when have you ever met an Italian American whose family wasn't in the mafia

The second best story is the one that he worked on the Brooklyn bridge. Which, unless he was like 100 when my grandfather was born, makes no sense.

The best story is that he was killed on a dock in a hit. Odd. We have his death certificate. It says lung cancer We know this, yet the family still tells that story XD

My grandfather is easier to figure out. He was a Green Beret in Vietnam and as I am told was a member of MIKE Force. I know for a fact he was a Green Beret. I have not been able to confirm he was involved with MIKE Force. I have been able to confirm he was one of the officers involved in the organization and birth of US Army Special Forces (not a master mind worthy of mention in history books but rather a guy who was present from the start). He died in the 90's.

My dad and his parents are awesome though (his parents divorced and remarried). They're super liberals and he's a super conservative. You can imagine how that works out ever thanksgiving

Would still work with the drinking heritage

Well according to my Grandad's research before he died of cancer R.I.P, found out that I am related (on my mother's side) to Captain Cooks mother and therefore Captain Cook himself.

Wether this is true or not I have yet to find the research he did and read through it.

That's about as wierd as my family gets ahaha

Is this your oblique way of telling me you're a lion? Do you know Aslan? Is he like Jesus for lions? Can you get me an autograph? What do people taste like?
