This Summer releases were kinda of a bummer for me.Here are the reasons why.
(1) Price hike.
(2) The totally lame Sisters of battle release.
(3) No Summer of Fliers.
(4) No new releases with the Sisters, like cool new plastics.Example, no new Plastic Stormtroopers.
(5) The whole Finecast thing.Better now but not much.
(6) No real Campaingn guide or book for the Summer of Magic.Just a Supplement.
(7) Nothing relible on a black box release.
(8) Maybe i missed it no new VC book yet?
Sorry if i offend any one but for me this has been a lame Summer for releases. The only good things have been forge world and and the few DE tidbits.
The only thing that has my group and me kept going is our Blood Bowl league and some serious Discussions about totally givuing up 40k and playing Flame of war, and the occasional game of fantasy.

1) doesn't this happen every summer?
2) It isn't a release, its a WD update
3) That was never going to happen, it was a rumor someone made up after seeing one picture, which only mentioned one flyer.
4) Again, it wasn't a release. Maybe when they get a new codex they will get some new stuff
5) I haven't had a problem with anything finecast. Price would have gone up either way probably.
6) I can't say anything about this....
7) Didn't they get rid of black boxes...
8) I can't say anything here.
Really the Summer of Bummer should come from
1) Australia getting the shaft
2) The news blackout that isn't as big as a deal as people make it seem like.

QQ, wah nana boo boo, GW is the devilz oh noes.
None of this is surprising, so if anything, don't be naive about this company and it's ability to stick it to their customers on a regular basis.
And what on Earth made you think VC are due for a new book. There's like 6 armies that need it more.

Price rises do happen every summer, and I heard if you adjust for inflation GW models are around the same price/slightly cheaper than they were in 2005. Dunno the source on that at all though.
The Summer of Fliers was based on one image in the back of a White Dwarf saying "WARTORN SKIES" with a picture of a voidraven. It built up steam as rumormongers mentioned seeing WIP aircraft models, but nobody mentioned that the time difference between models getting initially sculpted and becoming a reality is close to 2 years.
Finecast had bad quality control at launch, leading to tons of stupid Dakka memes and catchphrases. It's evened out since.
No campaign book sucks, but I'm not surprised. When was the last campaign book they did? Eye of Terror? I recall a Fantasy one in like 2004/5.
They got rid of black boxes altogether. Sucks, but that's not the point you're making.
No new VC book, but WD did add a few units with the Terrorgheist and cairn wraith as an HQ and stuff.
Yeah, this summer wasn't great for 40k players and had some bad moves from GW. Was it as bad as some people say? Hardly.

This summer...
I got a gorgeous cockatrice model and love it
The Terrorgheist came out and VC rules got updated
Price increases hit (expected)
Embargo (fail)]
Finecast (ups and downs-mine is fine, haven't bought any other, but I haven't seen any other mistakes in person, and I've been looking)
Have bought GW ONLY at discount of at least 20% because the price hike has made me decide not to pay full price anymore.
Can I live with it? Honestly, if I hadn't nailed the job that I have now, I would have had to say goodbye to GW. With the new job, I can still spend what I used to, and maybe a bit more. Just started a chaos biker army, all at discount cost.

Models released of a high standard for the most part (Chimera & Manticore let the side down) and the new monopose plastic single minis were a great new approach.
As for rumours that didn't materialise, can't blame GW for that.
I can't see that the price rises were justified. GW need to recognise the current financial environment. My spending has been very low since May.
The tighter control on information about new releases is daft, but as far as I can tell has failed miserably.

I'm just saying that's what I've heard; I've only bought one thing since the price rise, and it's pretty much the only 40k thing I've bought new in the last 4 months.

I quit GW after all of the bad decisions a few months back. I bought a stack of Warmachine products though and the release of the Warmachine expansion Wrath as well as all the great deals I managed to get made it an awesome summer (winter here in Australia) for me.

Not just Australia, anyone living in RoW has had the biggest Summer of Bummer ( TM).
On the plus side, it has forced me to try out some other games, and had some wonderful gaming experiences that I might not have had, had GW behaved in a civilized manner

When I started playing 40k around 2000 a box of Space Marines was $20 or $25 (cannot remember which) if you do a search for inflation calculators $25 in 2000 is rough $32.80 today which is still less than what a box of Space Marines goes for.

Here in Oz, the price rises generally come at the start of winter. EVERY winter is the winter of our discontent.
When I started, a box of space marines was $30.
This was the RTB001 box, btw. 30 (multipart) marines.
In 3rd ed, a tac squad was $30.

I heard, once upon a time, that you could get two Landraiders in a box that cost less than a Tac squad today. Of course, this guy also had one of those 'The End is Nigh!' signs, and smelled of sour almonds. So I'm not entirely sure he was right.

I was kind of bummed out about this summer's GW releases, too. Not because I was looking forward to vaporware that never materialized, but because there was nothing new for me to buy for my army (IG). In fact, this was a very square-base centric summer, which in general does nothing for me. All of this pales in comparison to the awesome stuff that as been coming out for Dystopian Wars, which has kind of taken over as my primary game.

So $37.25 is somehow less than $32.80 (or $26.24 @ $20), then you would be right. Otherwise enjoy Alchemy class.

Why would VC, an army with a book that was updated in 7th edition, be getting a new book already? Particularly when there's been armies like Tomb Kings, Ogres, Dwarves and Brettonians with books from 6th edition which haven't been updated yet?
I mean, I understand when time goes by without anything of personal interest to you releasing, but there's been quite a big released for both 40k and Fantasy over the last few months.

Now, hang on a second. The structure of the sentence may not be perfect, but he is saying that GW's prices have been raised above what inflation justifies.

However, CPI is only a calculated average. Price of consumables and commodities do not rise uniformly and some businesses will be more affected than others. Besides, there are accusations that CPI is pretty much a crock these days anyways, tuned to produce low numbers to please politicians: for example, Moore's law is built into index, which led to famous "I can't eat an iPad" comment.
It would be more fruitful to compare prices of some other major model kit manufacturer, like Revell etc and see how their prices have developed over the years.

No, you're absolutely right on that one.
We could get three rhinos for the price of a box of marines, and two land raiders for less than what a tactical squad costs these days.
Or less than half of what the land raider costs us these days.

The 2 pack Land Raiders were $25 if I remember correctly. The 30 pack of "Beakies" was $30, along with the 36 packs of plastic Orks, IG and Squats. Rhinos came in a 3 pack for $20. And there was a plastic box of Skeletons that was ~$30 that came with 20 skeletons, like 10 Skeleton Cav and 3 Skeleton Chariots. This summer has been the worst period of time for me as a GW customer.
The embargo and failcast really pissed me off, too. Previously, I can think of only 2 events in my 15+ years as a customer that even rate in the same ballpark: the decision to eliminate their bitz service and the removal of support for large scale tournaments.
