At least there was some logic to the disassembly of their bits service (even if its replacement is the same hamfisted bs that we're used to).

I dunno. Maybe we should all be like Warglock and troll every thread we read. Seems to make his life more fun, so who are we to judge?

Two things I'm disappointed about;

First is the lack of the Summer of Flyers for 40K. Okay, it was all unofficial rumour but I was looking forward to a non-Forgeworld Ork Fighta

The second is the lack of news on upcoming releases. I was really hoping Necrons would be out by now, in time for my holiday. At least I have my Tyranid army to carry on with.

It would have been nice for some generic 40K release. Ah well, I've got plenty to carry on with anyway.

Apologies for talking positively about games I enjoy.

yeah, getting disappointed about no 'Summer of Flyers' is a bit unfair to GW as they never announced it int he first place.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

(5) The whole Finecast thing.Better now but not much.
(6) No real Campaingn guide or book for the Summer of Magic.Just a Supplement.
(7) Nothing relible on a black box release.
(8) Maybe i missed it no new VC book yet?
Sorry if i offend any one but for me this has been a lame Summer for releases. The only good things have been forge world and and the few DE tidbits.
The only thing that has my group and me kept going is our Blood Bowl league and some serious Discussions about totally givuing up 40k and playing Flame of war, and the occasional game of fantasy.

I disagree. Other than the SOB 1/2 launch was poor, I've been pretty happy about it. I think that the midwest has a great number of summer related things especially for Fantasy, I heard blood in the sun was a total blast. We had a few fun tournies in this area. Our local group has grown in size, I've seen a lot more fantasy than 40k but a lot of new 40k players building. That's why we are hosting combat patrol tournies.

Point taken! In the US the difference is a couple bucks, while I know the embargo gutted a lot of people. Can you order from eBay sellers? Shipping would be rough but there's a lot of folks on eBay selling for 20% off.

Finecast had bad quality control at launch, leading to tons of stupid Dakka memes and catchphrases. It's evened out since.

I will continue to refer to it as failcast no matter what. I'm a total metal head. It's a gakky medium, hard to work with and doesnt take paint well. But oh so satisfying and heavy in your hand.

This summer is no more disappointing than any other. It saddens me whenever there's a price hike, but GW is running a business. I'd probably feel better about it if they weren't paying so much in dividends.

In those days, petrol was 50c/L and a 500ml bottle of coke was $1.00. Not trying to start that whole argument again, just saying.

I had a box of 2xLandraiders, they were the MK-I's and the plastic was that bone colored stuff.(and yes, it was less than the present price of 10xMarines now.)

And there was a plastic box of Skeletons that was ~$30 that came with 20 skeletons, like 10 Skeleton Cav and 3 Skeleton Chariots.

I was going off the local AUD prices that I paid for them.

RTB001 was $30AUD.
3 Rhino box was $30AUD
2 Land Raiders was $50. Which probably puts it at around $25-30USD (AUD was lucky to get to 0.75 USD).

The mixed regiment box of dwarfs, dark elves and something else was $30 (60 figures). Fantastic plastic? Something like that.
I think the skellies box was 20 skellies, and two chariots? (didn't play fantasy, let alone undead) for the same price.

For GW (FW excepted) it's been crap. For everything else, it's been golden:

- Dystopian Wars is taking off
- Warmachine/Hordes getting even more popular
- Mantic doing some lovely stuff
- Stonking miniatures from studio McVey/Banelegions/AoW
- FW seem to be getting it right. Some nice new releases that seems to have pleased an awful lot of people (CRASSUS/Praetor, new Eldar gear, loads of Marine gear and so on)

I've just pre-ordered the new Banelegions Black Elf, the new Mantic Twilight Kin sorceress and got my first bundle of Dystopian Wars ships. Just missed out on the Magenta though. Never been so excited about miniatures since the mid 90's!

Did you guys know Canada has a friggin desert?

I actually enjoyed this summer of GW, the finecast might have been annoying due to the price raise (and lack of mentioning; but at least GW didnt go "Happy birthday GW! Your present is a price increase for everything, with no acknowledgement whatsoever!" again. ) And although the lack of the summer of fliers slightly dissapointed me, I understand that these were just rumors. Plus, I bought a baneblade!

Play what you like, support what you like. If you don't like it, no one is twisting your arm to keep paying. Go find something you do want to pay for.

Man up and quit being a "GW Battered Girlfriend" like the rest of the whiners on here that keep crying about GW and how Tom Kirby has personally harmed them (even though the man, doesn't know or give a damn about any of them) while still handing their wallet to him every week.

QFT. Another GW whine thread

I have no problem whatsoever with people expressing their issues with GW but the amount of duplicate moaning over the last few months has gotten to breaking point.
At least take 30 seconds to scan/search the discussion forums for a similar whine thread to your own, as I guarantee its already been expressed, thrashed out, trolled and put to bed. You can then contribute there (you is plural here, its not necessarily a personal attack on the OP).

There is no need to make a new thread every time you need to express your fleeting angst at GW.

Having said that I suppose people like me should just avoid the thread altogether.....*off to the background forum we go*

I guess summer is what you make of it.

I built an 1850 Draigo Paladin wing out of terminators I had lying around and have since had an obscene amount of fun (you know, the positive feeling you get when partaking in a hobby) with it.

I picked up a chase, I mean, abyssal dwarf army from mantic.

I got some painting done on my battlewagon orks, which had turned into a longer term project than I was fearing.

Sure, new releases are the life blood of the hobby, but I've been hitting tournaments, having fun, and enjoying the shrinking amount of hobby time I get a week.

Not at all, you are fortunate that you have the disposable income to spend. I should be jealous that you are able to buy GW product at all (something not possible for me without 5 hours travel, and then paying over the RRP for it - if it is in stock). If I had a mind to buy it that is - I've been practically forced onto other systems by the GW embargo, and in a twisted kind of way should actually thank them for it. I would never have discovered Infinity without the companies appalling treatment of RoW (not just Oz) customers.

games workshop has done some things in the past, and continue to do bone-headed moves in the future. I really HATE GW.

But....

GW gave us 40k, and i absolutely love the hobby. Cost per entertainment, 40k isn't bad, and i really dont mind paying for quality. citadel puts out some amazing products, and despite some first run finecast had, it has proven to be better than metal and much easier to work with.

the prices are what they are. Yeah, you could get two land raiders for 30.00 or so in the us. but HAVE YOU SEEN THEM???!!! they look like gigantic MK IV French Char Bis from world war one, were terrible, had little detail on them, and generally just looked aweful.

Yes you could get box of marines that was thirty marines for around 25.00 or so. But have you seen them??!! it isnt just the sculpts, but the quality control back then was terrible too.

I know i played back then.

still play now.

GW isnt high on my list, they arent my favorites by any means, but they have stayed in business and kept our hobby alive while others now come to it.

That, and as a very competitive magic the gathering player, 40k costs nothing to play. every three months i spend about 700.00 in magic to remain competitive, in warhammer, i spend 35.00 when i want something to add to my army.

you wanna complain about something, complain about HASBRO, not GW. GW can at least be honest and just announce a price hike and say sorry, prices are going up. HASBRO doesnt even have the guts to do that. they disguise a price hike by calling it mythic rarity.

point is this. quit grithcing. GW WH40K isnt by ANY stretch the most expensive game to get into and your investment will sell return for hours of entertainment on the same model as you prepare it and then play it.

there is no such thing as a free lunch. I wouldnt give you one, why expect GW to do so...

sorry, i know this seemed "sharp" on my part, but its very frustrating when people just blast on GW. they arent my favorite, but its also time to be real about the subject.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Sco77y, I completely understand what you are saying, but the common counter-argument for this being:
- The only prices worth comparing GW to are to their competitors. Almost without exception, playing the GW 'core' games, in the way that players are prompted and encouraged to play, is more expensive than any of their competitors. This is exacerbated by those of us unfortunate enough to live in RoW territories.
I suppose these things are relative, in that the old 'I get hours of entertainment from this, it is worth x amount of money' can be practically stretched as far as you want. In amongst the complaint threads, there is usually the odd "GW isn't half as expensive as <insert hobby here>". The problem is, like I said, when you compare it to previous prices and their competitors.
- No problems at all with the Land Raider (and of course it still looks like a WW1 tank, one of the charms of the 40k setting and character). However, is it worth the price tag on the front? If you have never made anything else, and don't know any different, then of course it's fine. However, for anyone who has built a 1:35 scale tank from the likes of Dragon will know that the quality of the GW kit, including the level of detail, accuracy of casting and just overall quality does not even come close to some other producers. And some of the newer stuff with an even higher price tag (the StormRaven for instance) I would say has lowered the bar even further. Complaints that it looks like a 'toy' I would say are not completely unfounded.

This tank below is available for about $50, less than a Landraider. The quality is incomparable. Without going into the tiresome details, you can even choose stuff like what types of rivets are fitted, there are brass-etched components and even fully detailed interior (with crew). Here are a couple of shots that people might be interested in:

Of course GW is the only manufacturer of the Land Raider, whereas Dragon, Hasegawa and the like are competing against other companies versions of the Tiger. But, that doesn't alter the fact that a pretty large chunk of that $70 price tag or however much a Land Raider is these days is going for is just ballast. And to say they are the 'finest quality of miniature available' is a pretty far stretch of subjectivity in my mind.

So, GW will keep increasing their prices, reducing the number of miniatures in box sets, and writing the rules at the behest of sales staff who want to shift more kits etc. and there will still be people willing to buy them. But, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that they are pushing the boundaries of what most people, on a normal disposable income, are prepared to pay concerning their perceived value of the product. This is compounded by the fact that there is no option for an 'entry level' or skirmish size games these days to allow potential customers to get bitten by the 'GW bug'. So many of the members of this board will have had their first board/wargaming experience with the likes of Space Crusade or Heroquest. Now, realistically it several hundred dollars (if you scrimped it) and weeks of preparation time to even get something ready to field on the tabletop, and that's before you've been bombarded with WD's recommendation of massive 3 and 4000 pt armies for the likes of WFB, which no doubt leave many newcomers to the game feeling inadequate by comparison. The Games Workshop hobby is now more of a risk (both financially and in terms of commitment and time) than ever before, and everything that makes the hobby more difficult to access - be it cost or army sizes - is reducing the potential for new customers and ultimately money for the company.

I have a 1/48 version of a Panzere III that I bought fully painted and assembled at Walmart for $15.

I have another 1/48 Tiger that is a Tamiya model that cost $25-30 (can't remember now).

Both are at least equal in quality to a GW tank. We pay the price they ask (or discounted) because we need it for the game.
Therefore it has a value set by GW and our amount of "need".

Why would VC, an army with a book that was updated in 7th edition, be getting a new book already? Particularly when there's been armies like Tomb Kings, Ogres, Dwarves and Brettonians with books from 6th edition which haven't been updated yet?

I mean, I understand when time goes by without anything of personal interest to you releasing, but there's been quite a big released for both 40k and Fantasy over the last few months.
