The question is pretty straightforward, but its probably bound to have some entertaining awnsers: How has wargaming affected your "Love Life", whether they are simple romantic relationships or marriage, have they affected it in a positive or negative way, or have they not affected them at all?
Personally, they ahve actually been a bit of a positive in my current relationship. My girlfriend finds the fact I am into Warhammer 40k kindof cute, although she doesn't want me to tell her anything about it lest I bore her to death
So what about you, dakka? How has wargaming affected your relationships?
EDIT: Hm, upon a second check, this probably needs to be moved to Dakka Discussions...

I was introduced to this universe via my girlfriend.
It took off from there, and, to say the least, I don't belong here or at my local GW at all. Completely different lives from the people there, I cannot relate.
So, I basically just play with her and talk to her about it..keeps her happy, so I share this account with her.

Pretty much this, I'm sad to say. Well - I'm glad I don't have any nasty viruses or unexpected children, but being a nerd has basically put a damper on the love life.
(Not that I'm saying that nerds can't find true love. I know several friends who have, or thought they did. I, personally, however, have not.)

What is this "love life", "romance" and these "relationships" of which you speak?
Somehow my lack of experience in the relationships department doesn't surprise me, but I highly doubt it's because of the wargaming; something's telling me that if someone is crazy enough to like me, the whole wargaming thing won't be likely to sway their decision.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I've found war-gaming or many of my nerdy hobbies have little affect on my relationships whether they're romantic, professional, friendship, antagonistic, sexual, etc. What I find effects relationships the most is my
ability to relate with the person, sensing non-verbal cues and being a good conversationalist. That being said I haven't really experienced a true romantic/sexual relationship, but I've had several frustratingly
unsuccessful attempts at it.

Not affected at all.
My wargaming covers only a small part of my interests, its like background noise. It helps that my wife is a bit of a sci fi geek.
Coming to think of it the majority of girls/women I have been out with havent been bothered by my toy soldiers.
I don't think women really give a flying fig unless the first thing you say to her is 'I Like the warhamms' pew, pew, deal with it succubus!BEWBS!' or force her to see the lavish attention you have paid to your kingdom death sculpts.

Your hobby does not affect your love life. Your personality does. With the possible exceptions of the whole "the dollies go or I do" scenario, I cannot see how playing a miniature was game will de-facto prevent you from interacting with other human beings. Cause and effect is all mixed around on this one.

I'm pretty sure that you're using the word "Normal" in a manner different than it's intended meaning. Miles away in fact.
In response to the OP: in no way at all. Most women don't care if you're a gamer, they look for things like confidence, compassion, a sense of humor and intelligence. Fortunately, I found an outlier.

I'm a confessed closet geek, (confessed only to my wife and a friend) Very few people know I have thousands of dollars in minis/comics/anime. So, it hasn't been an issue once.
When it came to my wife finding out, I didn't talk about it much when we started dating. When we moved in together it just slowing started to show itself. We've been married 5 years, and dated for 5 before that.

I've always treated it like any other hobby, though my wife is not fan. She doesn't dislike it because it's nerdy, She dislikes it because she can't understand the cost.
Luckily for me, I have my striking good looks, charming personality, and rapier sharp wit going for me.

Well, I got back into 40K back in september, and my girlfriend of six years left me at the end of May....She was ok with my nerdy-ness before, but I'm pretty sure my Tau addiction was the last straw (despite the fact she denies that 40K had nothing to do with it) haha.
But now I'm seeing a girl who's really getting into 40K; she actually watched a 4500 point Apoc game a couple weeks ago! Plus, I think she's more excited for the Space Marine game than I am
So, it (could've been) the final nail in the coffin on one relationship, and a fun past time in another relationship

They usually don't care. One of them rolled her eyes and said, "oh no, what have I gotten in to," but that was mostly in jest.
Another one, who was a friend I was trying to "get with", saw the nerd closet and exclaimed, "My god, Brad, what have you done?" That was the end of that one, but it was a rare case.

Technically, he didn't say she had all three qualities, just that she didn't have two. She could have one or none after all.

This is one thousand times true. For us unfortunate few, all we can really do is wear masks, stalk them, and play organs in hidden rooms inside opera halls.
