So I think we're all familiar with peoples opinions on the price of the GW Hobby, and indeed it's competitors.

But to my knowledge, something that is rarely, if ever discussed are our respective budgets. Hence this thread.

As a gracious host, I'll kick off.

After tax, I get paid around £960.00 a month. Now, out of that, I need to pay the rent (£450 a month) Electric (£20 a month is a safe bet, it's only a small flat!) plus I allow £150.00 for food (I like a takeaway one a Friday, as after a weeks work I can rarely be arsed to cook). Internet is £20ish a month, and my mobile averages around £30. So that leaves me with £290.00 'disposable' income (more if I cut out the take aways). Council tax is paid up for the year from the annual bonus.

Clearly, this isn't an awful lot of money left for me, but it isn't to be sniffed at. Divvying it up, and allowing for a 4 week month, that gives me around £75.00 a week for me. This could be said to be my gaming budget, and is in fact fairly extravagant to chuck on just one thing. DVDs and Graphic Novels don't buy themselves you know.

Thus, I reckon a £100.00 monthly gaming budget is around my sweet spot. It allows me to buy a new Codex, even a new game every month, and I can pretty quickly build up a new army. Hell, it's even enough over 3 months to get a decent gaming table, including a Realm of Battle.

Now before I go drawing conclusions, or dipping my toe in the water of 'what exactly is value for money' I shall leave off.

So post up your monthly hobby budget. You don't have to go into as much depth as I just did, just a '£XX.XX a month' would be about nice! Oh, and feel free to discuss your own comments etc on value. I'm not on account I don't want the thread derailed before it gets going.

11 days until the first paycheck at my new job. By my calculations I should have around 300 euro of disposable income a month. I wish I had that kind of money back when I wanted a new army every month. Now, disillusioned with GW, Privateer Press, Mantic... I really don't have much to spend it on.

Keeping myself and the fiancee in housing, nice food, nice car, shocking council tax means I do not have much to spend at all each month now. To be fair I have always been a save up and spend a small fortune sort of guy

I get about £3500 a month, I don't pay tax, NI, Health Insurance, or rent.
From that, I pay about £200 for my car, and about £50 for my phone.
Food budget is about £200.
So I've got about £3000 as a disposable income.

My gaming budget isn't that extravagant though,
I'll maybe put an order in every few months, and it's usually around £300.

What'll make you really sick is that petrol here is 45p/gal as opposed to £5.85 in the UK

I set aside $30 a month as GW gaming budget. That slows down my purchases to the point I don't drown in gray plastic and have time to paint things. Also, obligates me to save up cash for a little while and helps fight impulse buys of anything too big most of the time.

Currently £0 ($0 ). Almost all my new purchase costs are recouped from selling off my old 40k models. My Warmachine, Hordes and Flames of War armies are pretty large now so I only buy the odd thing anyhow. I'm always on the lookout for a bargain, for example I built up a platoon of leFH18s for less than £20 (Battlefront sells this platoon for £35).

I'm thinking of making a 15mm historical, either ECW, Wars of the Roses or 'Conquistadors'. That's a one off thing and I may splash some cash to start that project off.

Due to living on the outer fringes of the galaxy as far as wargaming goes, I generally buy a big 'splash' of stuff every couple of months or so and mail order from Wayland or Maelstrom. To be honest, my rate of painting leaves a lot to be desired (a mini or 2 a week if I'm lucky! .

Last time was about $120 or so on various Infinity bits and pieces. I could probably buy more, but I hate to just have stuff sat in its boxes, and the logistics of getting stuff crated half way around the world (and then most likely having to send it back as well at some point in the future) means it wouldn't be a wise choice. I'd be interested to know though how many people on here limit themselves to stuff they know they will be able to paint and model, or whether they just stack the boxes up with the intention of getting to them in the future?

That being said, I am seriously considering a new Dwarf army made up of Gamezone metal miniatures - all metal, will be a joy getting those through customs and bloody expensive to send them anywhere!

well with me it isnt lack of money, but my parents that stop me from buying stuff.they think i should buy something "useful". Strange, because when i bought a gaming pc last year for a billion dollars, they didnt complain. Now they do, telling me to do something creative.

I make $250 a day for a per diem job, plus another per diem job that gives $75 a day. I work about half a month at the $250 a day job. One day covers rent, a second day covers all my bills, except student loans. I'd say that gives me quite a bit for gaming purposes. Probably doesn't help that I have models for EVERY army out there except 'crons and IG. Yes, the Tau hater even has a box of fire warriors...

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I used to budget myself about $50 a month, then the economy got steadily worse. My job let me go yesterday so right now my hobby budget is pretty much nil. Thankfully, I've got mountains of crap to paint so I won't be for lack of things to do anytime soon.
