Somewhere Ironic

After Tax, I get 1300$ CAD/month. Roughly, that's the same in USD, and that's roughly 820 GBP. I live with my folks (though I have to mention that I'm only 21), and my expenses are...

80 - Bus Pass
30 - Cellphone
60 - Laptop
300 - Food (I can cook, I just hate cleaning up)
130 - Misc

That leaves me with 700$ CAD (440GBP)/month. I tend to save a lot, but then I tend to also buy in large heaps. This week, I bought 5 Horus Hersey Books and 2 Codices (I wanted to read up on SW and GK, see what all the fuss is about). My bank account still says 2000 dollars though, and I have no debts to credit cards (woo!) so I'm pretty happy.

This. I buy in bulk from sites like the warstore when i want a new army. a 20% discount is noticeable in bulk. The last thing I bought was about $700 worth of Grey Knights. I bought enough for a Crowe Purifier Army as well as an Inquisitor Coteaz Henchmen army.

Imho, it's not a real hobby if you can't justify dumping mpney into it - whenever someone gets buyers remorse, s/he should reconsider what she buys.

If I felt like it, I would have no quarrels spending more.
If I have a not-so-hobby month, I won't spent as much.

I don't want to be human! I want to see gamma rays! I want to hear X-rays! And I want to - I want to smell dark matter! Do you see the absurdity of what I am? I can't even express these things properly because I have to conceptualize complex ideas in this stupid limiting spoken language! But I know I want to reach out with something other than these prehensile paws! And feel the wind of a supernova flowing over me! And I can know much more! I can experience so much more. But I'm trapped in this absurd body!

I give myself £30 a month for GW stuff, although i hardly ever spend that in GW. Can't really justify any more than that, whatever else i have spare I spend on going out with my GF, friends, family etc.

I work over seas for most of the year, so I don't own any permanent residance, but After taxes since I don't really have any bills my true disposable income every two weeks would be $7,000. I am waiting until the new rulebook comes out and the new necron codex to start making big purchases though.

I stopped thinking about my hobby budget in terms of cash when I started working full time. I've got enough stuff still on sprue to make any new purchase silly (but inevitable).

So, no really fixed budget, but I'm at the point financially where there's nothing GW could make that I wouldn't buy if I wanted it.

I spend around $200 every 6 months or so at the FLGS. If they didn't have a discount program, I probably would spend $30/mo, max.

As for budget...I work full-time and have a family to support. Very little is left over at the end of the month for hobbies.

This sounds about like me. I could easily shell out $500-900 a month on stuff but never would. In fact - since I've felt like I've been spending a ton of cash the last few months I took a "no unnecessary spending in September" pledge. Which I broke, but only by < $20. (so far - but less than a week till I'm in the clear). Though really, its the time of year that I pretty much stop buying myself anything anyway so that people have things to get me for Christmas.

I don't have a 'budget' for gaming stuff.

I spend around $2-300AUD a year on my hobby for gaming things. After over 20 years in the miniatures hobby, there's only a few things I need to get.

I allow myself $50 a month for models and stuff. Usually I end up spending double that, but never mean to. It's not my fault I spend more, I blame the game companies for making models I can't resist buying.

Live with my parents, im on a College sabbatical, have a steady 8h day job witch is like 80 disposable income, could waste $500 dollars a month on Plastic crack if i really wanted to. For the last few years i have gotten sick of GWs policies and stunts, considering they no longer want to sell me in LA, i have very little incentive to keep buying from them. For the last few years i have been buying at the very most 3 battle force boxes a year, and Never at FRP.
So there you have it, their policies have driven me to spend about $30 bucks a month on them out of a $500+ disposable income budget. Keep up the good work and make me save money.

Why? 'How do you budget for your hobby' seems like a perfectly reasonable topic of conversation.

I don't budget myself on per monthly bases. Because i know what i like doesn't come out month by month, but rather all at once.
Hence i hold in my compulsive buys till there is an annual sale of some sort and throw all my budget in at once.

Though i do keep a separate stash of warhammer fund from selling my unused warhammer stuff,
but that stash is mostly used on Steam ( video games )

Oh and by the way, i do spend lots on the Hobbie, just not that much on GW any more as they have lost most of the value they used to have, for instance:

From my $500 dollar disposable income last month i bought an aerograph and a compresor Grand totalling $600 bucks. I do plan on re doing my empire army when Mantic releases their human range or doing an undead or dwarft (mixing mantinc and AoW) or chaos dwarft army if i dont fancy their human counter parts.
I like using good hobby products, so i spend quite an amount in paints, planning to get the vallejo full 72 collor game range pack if Maelstrom does a sale in christmas this year, which that alone costs over $200.

Bottom line i spend a lot on my hobby which is about my only real expense, it is just that GW is getting an increasingly smaller piece of my money pie, and they make every humanly possible effort to shrink that even more every chance they get.

I don't have a budget. I buy what I want, if I have the cash and if I think the price is right.

Which, these days, means I'm buying very little GW, and quite a lot of ... well, an awful lot of other companies' minis.
