I have decided to replay all the Fallout games again after finding my Fallout trilogy collection hiding in the back of my wardrobe.I started with tactics, so far I've grinded through about half of it (painfully) then it's on to 1,2,3 then New Vegas. I don't have BoS on Xbox but I'd love to get a copy (eBay here I come)
Anyone else here a big fan of the Fallout universe/series? Drop a post and let us know what keeps convincing you to wander the wasteland.
P.s please don't start a fallout bashing thread, each to their own.

Loved 1,2, and to a much lesser extent 3. The others were utter crap (LOOKING AT YOU TACTICS).

I liked 2 the most because of the way the game starts. You basically have nothing in terms of firepower, and you have to put the hurt on enemies with a spear or the like. It felt like christmas had some early when I found the piperifle. It's basically pvc pipe fashioned into a gun that only shoots once before you reload it. After I had that I felt like I was god of the wastes because geckos fell to my wrath. I was met with grim reality when I ran into a small band of raiders. Narrowly surviving that encounter, I found a crappy pistol. As crappy as it was, it was better than the piperifle in terms of dmg and capacity, so I switched.

And thus my story began.

The third one...well I've yet to finish it. I get bored with it quickly. I think the best way for me to grade a game is if it keeps my attention long enough to finish it.

2 and 3.5 (lets face it, that is why NV is) are my favourites, one and three are still good games but not quite as good.

The unnumbered games (IE tactics) were complete tripe.

I always hated tactics but this time around I'm really enjoying it although the real 50's fallout atmosphere is missing and that's what separates it so much from the universe. It is my least favourite fallout but is still a good fun game if you know how to play it though it can be very hard at times. I may be partial to the genre as i still play Jagged Allianc 2 v1.13 regularly and hail it as possibly the best game i have ever played.Tactics didnt do it as good but it did it so differently that i would recommend it to any strategy fan, at least to try.1 and 2 are in a league of their own, what can I say.I thought 3 was incredible in every way and was an awesome transition to FPS while keeping the same core gameplay mechanics we know and love.
Yes.....I'm a bit of a Fallout Fan

I liked 1&2 ut 3 really killed my intrest in the games. I mean how dull can someone make such a great setting as the fallout universe?

I just started part 3. Never did get into part 1 or 2 when they came out. Someone mentioned Jagged Alliance... so the Tactics game is turned based? I'm going to have to try it out.

Liked all. Lost my Fallout 3 savegame due to HDD crash when I was 75% through including DLCs, I really dont want to do that all again.

Still waiting for a cheap New Vegas bundle.

With the exception of the aforementioned unnumbered (sans NV) games, I love all of the Fallouts; though 2 and 3 were my favorites.

I will say, though, that NV had a much better main quest than 3; even if the atmosphere was not as good.

Of the series I'd say that the ones with Chris Avellone heading the creative end are my favorites, ie 2 and NV. 3 was nice as a post apocalyptic computer game, but it felt a little detached from the original series (but maybe that was just because it was set on the other side of the country...). New Vegas was a definate improvement on 3, despite being smaller (eugh), and its always nice to find out what eventually happened to all those guys that you screwed over in previously games (pitty that the Shi ended up only being mentioned as a footnote in the final version of the game though). ^^

In terms of story, I prefered 1 as it was closer to the original premise of a vault society exposing itself to the world in the immediate aftermath of a nuclear war. FO 2 by its very nature advanced the storyline a few decades so introducing a feral tribal nature that I didn't particularly care for.

That said, I prefer 2 overall because the UI is a little slicker and they cleaned up the inventory/looting interface (it was a PITA to loot multiple times in 1 because there wasn't a loot all button).

If there were such a thing as FO1 with FO2's UI, then that would be my choice.

Runnin up on ya.

If you're going to visit the whole series, you'll have to find Wasteland somewhere on the internet and play it; it was the first....waaaaaay back; you'll probably need a PC and dosbox to play it.

Fallout is only considered a spiritual successor to wasteland and isn't actually connected. The makers of fallout always reference wasteland and list it as an inspiration and it is referenced in fallout 2 and NV.It's clearly where fallout is based from. rumor has it Wasteland 2 may be on it's way by the same person in charge of wasteland 1. Should be interesting.

Interesting. I remember playing it in HS and thought it was great; there are countless references in Fallout games to Wasteland even down to the dog that keeps cropping up.

It would be nice to see a wasteland 2 but fallout's close enough in many respects.

To me, Fallout 3 is the best video game yet made. It's a high bar for Skyrim.

I enjoyed FO1, but I much prefer 2. It was much more expanded and fine tuned. 3 and NV were okay, but I'm not a big fan of the 1st person shooter/rpg style of games. More importantly I felt that that 3 and NV lost a lot of the dark humor and spirit of the first two which make them more generic.

Am I the only one who loved the gak out of Tactics? It had multiplayer for god sake!

Anyway, 1 still my fav (due to storyline etc.) Followed closely 2.

Bethesda should have never gotten their grubby paws on this IP. I don't hate fallout 3 and NV, but to me, they aren't fallout games, and that's the end of it. They are post-apocalyptic RPG's but I don't accept them as actual sequals.

I think it falls short on story. If Skyrim can fuse an NV quality story with an FO3 quality atmosphere (and the atmosphere seems to be there based on the preview videos), it will easily meet and raise the bar.

I loved the FO3 main story. I thought it brought a sense of gravity and even myth to the relatively mundane task of purifying water, which is all it really boiled down to (I did a pun). Oblivion was the real story disappointment, in my view. Of course, the absolute high water mark in my book was Morrowind.

I felt NV had better gameplay than F3 but I agree with manchu on the story and setting of F3.

That said the different characters I made in oblivion and morrowind felt very much like different characters, in F3 and NV they just sort of blend together when you reach high levels.

Sure why not. It's definately up there for me as well.

I've played 3 and New Vegas and loved them both. I've recently been feeling like buying one of them again to play despite already having all the achievements for both.
I prefered 3 to New Vegas as I felt New Vegas lacked the tension of 3, there was nothing in it like sneaking through the subway tunnels and wondering if there is going to be a super mutant round the next corner.
The Chinese stealth armour in 3 made for some fun times too (I know it was in New Vegas too but I never bothered picking it up).

I agree FO3 Is an absolutely awesome game that in my opinion still not much compares to.And don't worry your not alone this time around I realize that Tactics is actually pretty awesome in it's own rights, just try not to compare it to FO1/2 AT ALL haha.It has unique but very interesting gameplay that makes it worth the learning curve and the challenging difficulty makes it very rewarding.Id honestly rate it an 8/10.
Compared to FO2/3 being 9.5 and FO1/NV Being a 9/10

No, he means that there is a suit of Stealth Armour in FO:NV that talks to you.
