It is a long standing argument in my family of the evilness of Brussel Sprouts. My mum loves them and myself, my dad and sister can't stand them. Where do you stand on the position of sprouts? Yay or they should burn in hell?

Yeah, there's a sweet spot. They have to have a bit of a pop and crunch, but still need to be soft.

Looots of butter is mandatory, too.

They are delicious, I'd eat them every day if I could (and if my wife would stand it).

However, I used to hate them and only discovered my love for them after I turned 30 and by accident at a Xmas dinner. Strange how one's tastes mature with age...

They're ok, but there are worse vegetables in my opinion.

They are foul when just boiled (though most vegetables are) however can be very nice when cooked correctly.

Love 'em.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

This...

Not a picky eater myself and if done right they go quite well with meatloaf...

But I have seen soggy sprouts before (even tasted one of the nasty buggers) and I wouldn't touch them with a 39 and a half foot pole...

Dirt tastes better than brussel sprouts. Don't ask how I know....

Funny story: My mother used to fix them a couple times a year. My sister and I would put up an enormous fuss over it; mom would argue back, dad just stayed out of it. One night, mom turned to him and sorta-yelled, "Why aren't you saying anything! The only reason I make these disgusting things is for you!"

He looked over at her with a bewildered expression. "Don't look at me!" he replied. "The only reason I eat them is because you cook them. I thought you liked them."

Sheepish looks were exchanged, all the sprouts went back in the pot, and we never, EVER had those nasty things again.

CHAOS! PANIC! DISORDER!

Apparently people who like sprouts have fewer taste buds than people who hate them.

Essentially, if you like sprouts, it's only because your palate isn't developed enough.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

Taste buds =/= developed palate

It's actually really interesting. There's some evidence that picky eaters actually have MORE taste buds and they can taste SO MUCH of it that it's overwhelming and they become sensitive to certain bad flavors. Having slightly duller taste results in better blending of flavors when the signal hits your brain.

Fix'd.

The majority of fussy eaters are just fussy eaters who were raised on a poor diet.

I love Brussel Sprouts..but then again I enjoy almost all Veggies when done properly.
Any vegetable is horrid if it's boiled to mush, but steamed and flavored a bit...good stuff.
