Sprouts are the Matt Ward/ Justin Bieber of the vegetable world: that is people love to complain about them just a tad too much.

They are delicious with some butter, salt and malt vinegar.

I HATE! them they trick you in to thinking there tiny cabbages but then you bite into it and BAM! you think twice about licking the the oven wall to kill the taste.

So yeah....I hate them.

We have them every damn Christmas, yet no one actually likes them - why? - because it's 'traditional'.

The smell of them cooking is terrible, the taste is a 1000 times worse.

They get a bad rep purely because most people cook them incorrectly or eat sprouts that have been cooked incorrectly. Boiling them to death is not the way. Personally, I find that steaming them results in a beautiful tasting sprout.

(I think you should re-title the thread to reflect brussell sprouts... I thought this was a thread about all sprouts in general)

My husband agrees with you, steaming is the better option, as is lots of butter and adding bacon. I have been steaming them for him for a few years now.


I however believe they are evil things and should be purged from the world! (I did try to give them a second chance, steamed, with a gorgeous roast dinner... nope... they are just evil!) I am one of the fussy eaters that has the excess taste buds curse though and it is a curse! Combined with the enhanced sense of smell my life in food can be a complete hell. Extremes of taste are no fun.

I eat them not because they taste good per se, but I get to dunk them in vinegar, one of my favorite flavors. Plus they have so many nutrients that a junk food junkie like me desperately needs!

I detest them to the point where when I was younger I'd hide them under the table when my mums back was turned.
