On 3rd December, a 96page hardcover rule book named "Blood of the Badlands" will be released, while supply lasts.
Contains rules for sieges and fights in caverns.

Posted by Schelle over at Warseer:
Today I bought me the December WD and there is a new release for December which is a 96 page hardback campaign book called 'Blood of the Badlands'.

This is a specific add on to the rules book containing rules for siege gameplay and rules for playing in vast caverns underground. There is a small battle report of Dwarfs facing Skaven with some of the siege rules revealed. I have to say that I really love it. The gameplay looks like fun.

Especially the fact that you can purchase siege equipment by spending siege points; the amount of siege points is equal to starting point for the army, so a 2000pts army can purchase up to 2000 siege points of equipment.

There are rules for cauldrons of boiling oil (very destructive apparently), steam-powered rams, siege towers, and much much more.

Anyway, I am getting this add on for sure!

(...)
There seem to be also rules for a gigantic warmachine for Skaven called the Warp-Doom-Magma-Cannon. The damn thing was used in the battle report, but it blew up due to a catastrophic meltdown...this looks familiarly like 40K Apocalypse to me, so BRING IT ON!!!!

(...)
Hm, there seems to be something regarding an item called 'Stonebread', but this does not seem specifically for Dwarfs, although they are using it in the game. Apparently the defenders of the castle need to roll for what is called 'starvation' at the start of the game, this means that every model in the defending army needs to roll a D6, on the roll of a 5+ they suffer a wound. Because the Dwarfs have 'Stonebread' they only suffer a wound on a 6+, not sure if any saves apply. Although the Dwarf player in this specific battle report lost 22 dwarfs due to this roll

The book is out for release on the 3rd of December and will cost 26€ (20£)

And by our mikhaila:
And something I have no info on....

Blood in the Badlands, a 96pp full color, HC, book. 'While supplies last'.

So it is a limited release rule book for the much anticipated siege rules, oh well.

I'm surprised at the price. Would expect it to be more what with how SoM was priced.

So they're making the rules for an expansion limited-edition? Who the bloody feth thought that was a good idea?

Player A: "So, how about a game of "Blood of the Badlands?"
Player B: "Yeah sure, oh no, I wasn't able to buy the rulebook, it was a limited release."
Player A: "Oh...standard WHFB?"
Player B: "Sure..."

At least space hulk in a sense aside from the minis is not 40k. This requires the fantasy rules does it not?

It's described as "while stock lasts". That's different from limited release.

I'm pretty sure those mean the exact same thing. There is a limited quantity of books that will be available, ever.

That being said, thank God for pdf's. Limited release rule books is a terrible idea, and while I would like to buy this one(because I love siege) if I'm not able to I'll have to go the illegal route.

After your rants about illigal castings you say this....shame my friend shame... [/sarcasm]

Looks like another add on book that people will buy like planet strike and COD and never play because 'it's not balanced like the main WHFB rule are'. >.> <.< " Dakka really needs a shifty orkymotion =o[ "

Let's not get me started on what I rant about with recasts. My only qualm with recasting is when people post blatant pics of it when it is against the rules of dakka to show recast parts or when some idiot tells people that personal use recasting is magically legal when it really isn't.

Hell in the swap shop there is a guy selling dark eldar with bare resin recast heads. If he had just primed them he'd be fine.

Yes I recast, no I don't post pics of bare resin recasts, yes I download pdf's, no I don't say where I got them and I don't distribute them out to other members of dakka.

Don't concern yourself with what I do outside of this site.

I believe a "while stock lasts" item can be restocked at any moment, while a limited release cannot.

1.) This is not a thread about illegal copies.
2.) "While stock lasts" means that the stock is limited -> limited release. In contrast to books that are reprinted on demand.

I agree Kroot, sorry for derailing.

I look forward to new siege rules and hopefully some models to go along with it.

Looks like I'll have to buy some Hirst Arts molds and get to work on making a castle.

Limited release of a book is fairly meaningless anyway. Space hulk was totally different because it has hard to replace unique piece, unlike a book which can be copied in 3 mins at fedex

I think it's a pretty cool idea to release more WFB supplements but the problem still remains.. which is the core ruleset atleast imo.

Not a big fan of the idea of WFB apoc for various reasons, the largest being the extremely restrictive movement system which makes large games feel like multiple smaller games since sections of the board cannot interact with the other (Unlike in 40k where models have a much more free movement system). Also, what's the point when the most destructive units in the game (IE warmachines) can already be spammed to destroy the entire opposing army

Whats next, super cannons that kill 3 monsters per turn? Why bother even taking big stuff? Which sorta defeats the purpose of apoc which is to take big stuff!

Hey, if all the big monsters have a ward save and are immune to multiple wounds then I will retract the above but until they do.. there is no purpose to release WFB apoc to me

I guess it really depends on how the rules and mechanics work that will make or break the system. I do like the idea of defenders starvation as their food supply runs out. Thats a neat concept. I don't think it will work well for pick up games, but for some campaign games ( im thinking dwarves vs greenskins or skaven, it will make some damn fun and interesting games especially if you can do all kinds of wierd shannagans like rock slides, pit traps, boiling oil's been said already that kind of stuff.

I've had a blast playing planet strike in a campaign setting and it was one of the most fun games I have ever played of 40k. If this seige suppliment can do the same for Fantasy, awsome. If it's just a quickly toss together rule set to sell more uber over the top modelkits that youi 'need' for the games, poor show GW, poor show.

Aerethan- what fantasy army do you play? I would love to see me some homebrewed castle building especially if you keep it in line with what army you play ie empire Generic castle, HE's tall spires and flowing archutecture, Chaos a daemon infested warptwisted hell place, TK's a pyrament

You say that like Apocalypse doesn't have stuff that completely and utterly destroys monstrous creatures and tanks. Hint - they start with a D.

Apocalypse is all about lots of models, and big explosions that remove lots of models. I wouldn't expect anything less if they did a similar expansion for Fantasy.

The price point is quite nice for an expansion.

I'm pretty sure limited edition does not allow for production of copies beyond the specified amount, whereas "while stock lasts" denotes that the offer is valid as long as there are items available without making any binding claims as to whether there will be more of them produced in the future.

It allows GW to shift stock fast as people will try to get their copy before it's gone, with the option to print more if it sells like hotcakes. That's assuming it really is a "while stock lasts"item.

While stock lasts is a marketing ploy to sell all of their original run of books. The only chance the book has of being released a second time would be if the first run sells out in some small amount of time, which is unlikely.

It's a dumb move from anything other than an initial sales standpoint. If it doesn't sell enough to warrant another run, you'll end up with people turning up and being told it's a seige game with no foreknowledge of the rules.

But then, shortsightedness is GW's thing.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

Great, some more Storm of Magic shenanigans. Badlands will probably find its way onto someone's shelf and gather dust along with the exclusive models related to it, just like SoM before it.

Fantasy already takes too long and doesn't need further complications and models. All good and well if it speeds up the Bretonnian release by them getting a new seige engine early but all we can expect from this is more failcast.

Well when GW makes something that only a select number of people can own legally, yes. GW isn't offering the book to everyone by limiting it's number. If ever you were going to pirate something it should be the one that you CAN"T acquire through legal means.
