So Ive had a Lego guy of my sons, sitting on my monitor for a weekish now, and Im not going to lie, hes "committed suicide" a fair few times. Now Im playing around with him, being myself of course, and I realized, he has 2 faces on his head. So intrigued, I grab another one of my sons and again, the Lego man has 2 faces. WTF is this all about? I keep getting annoyed playing with this thing, and I keep seeing a stupid face looking back at me, like President Scroob with his head on backwards. Is this a new trend in Legos?! I certainly hope not!

They've done that for a while, mainly with 'action figure' sort of guys. The idea is that you put a hairpiece of their head so it covers the extra face, but of course, those stupid pieces of crap always come off their heads, so it's pointless.
Legos suck now. I've got a sixty pound bag of the old ones that I'm keeping with me for the rest of my life. They just keep adding new pieces that overlap the duties of other pieces. No longer do you make walls out of lots of bricks. They just give you a big piece that looks like a wall. That's the reason why I fething hated megablocks when I was a kid. And now lego's doing it.

Yeah, there's supposed to be a hairpiece on top that hides the other face.

The new legos are amazing, I still pick up some of the minifigures that come in the single pack if they pique my interest. Got myself a British Royal guard, Hazmat guy, Spartan, stereotypical Mexican, and a Gladiator. I was also a huge fan of megablocks, I loved their aircraft carrier and battleship models.

Ah Lego, the beauty to allow a childs mind to wander and create physical images of the scenes inside his young head! boats, cars, planes, police stations, that elusive block that allowed you to build a van with an opening rear door all in the one colour!.... bliss, hunting for nearly an hour through bags full of peices looking for the one head you own with the sunglasses and stubble so you can make a tough looking police dude on a bike! or the torn instructions you find in your bottom drawer and you try and create the model that's been broken into gazillion bits! these are the memories of my lego life! and my favorite piece was the prehensile robot arm from the original space series! that bit was the bomb!

Lego peices have become redundant, instead of building cool things out of a heap of bricks that at face value were nearly identical, they'll have you build what is essentially a low quality model out of custom-made parts.
Also, WTF was with them changing the mini-figs skin colors from yellow?

For a while I've thought Lego's ideas are going down the pan. A few years ago they decided to do the Exo-Force range - think that Japanese mecha suit show with giant battlesuits and robots for enemies. Anyway that's where the 2-face heads started from. Hairpiece covers the back while the front shows, so you have options of faces. But lately they've been running out of ideas.
The Star Wars sets are getting redone again and again and they aren't getting better, if somewhat worse. As as example, I have the older version of General Grevious's ship. It's been redone with bulkier bits, a worse version of a Grevious minifig, and flick missiles... not pleased. They redid the Rock Raiders sets and rebranded that as Power Miners... with less success. I mean, using Lime green as a main colour isn't very nice on the eyes. They've also redone the old Egyptian sets which look alright but have this "playset" feel to them that seems to echo around the other set themes today. They've also redone the Space/Alien sets with some Alien Conquest theme that I'm not fond of either - the old insectoid ships you could get were awesome But I think the biggest upset so far is over their Technic range, mainly considered the replacement for the Bionicle range. Thosse models were pretty awesome in every edition; only to be replaced with this Hero Factory stuff that looks too thin and lacking in parts. If anything the bad guys of that range look pretty good generally speaking but even then they're not as great as say the Visorak, Rhaakshi and the Piraka (bonus points for anyone who remembers these ).
Overall Lego standards are down. It's less about creation and more about it being a playset, which I suppose gives parents better incentive to buy the products and hope they last longer before being dismantled. Flick Missiles, half-built buildings (backs missing so you can access rooms), multiple-faced heads, its more about play rather than build. Bit of a shame.

I've got 3 60L crates full of lego from various eras. Ive got the old ninja lego, starwars, western, some of the Atlantis themed stuff. Had a few city kits. Most of my collection is made up of the old pirate lego and the old Medievil lego. My pride and joy is a set the allowed you to make the front gate/wall of a castle and battering ram to knock down said gate. Like you Samus im keeping it for the rest of my life. My kids will have it and il make damn sure their kids get it too. Also does anyone remember Meccano? I loved that more then life when i was little.

I have old meccano, a big crate of the old metal Brix-builds. 4 or 5 crates of lego, excluding the 1.5 of technic and 1 of the star wars lego.
I remember building spacecraft, triemes, and huge bases with the back off, even huge dreadnoughts (boats) using the floatable ships and floating them in the bath.

Yea Lego was great. My brothers and I would always build either things for space ship battles, or some random war and build all the weapons we could. I was a fan of making quad 50s for my army Id use those "light saber" or "cop stick" parts for the barrles

I remember i once attempted to make Godzilla. His head was made out of a Duplo garbage truck which had a openable back on it which was used to represent the mouth. When all said and done it stood about 30cm tall. Not huge i know but not a bad effort for a 6yo. Im pretty sure theres a picture of it kicking about somewhere. If i find it i'll post it.

You guys are incredibly out of touch with current Legos, the new Lego guys still have yellow skin but there are few exceptions. The Star Wars sets feature different skin colors and so do ones that have the head acting as visors for helmets(these ones are black). As far as sets changing, they haven't changed. The same bricks from your childhood are still there and as far as "specialized" bricks go I would have to say that I laugh at that remark. Have you guys never heard of the motorized brick that game with some of the Lego sets, what about the light bricks? The newer sets are absolutely amazing and the number of moveable parts are astounding, before when you were a kid the parts with wheels were the most sought out pieces among any of them. And you're complaining about being able to play with them, what the hell? Did you know that Lego comes from Leg Godt which means "Play Well". They also have creator sets which can be made into multiple models or used to make whatever pieces you want to make. Specialty pieces are sought out by kids because they are specialized pieces KingCacker said that he used to use old cop sticks and lightsabers to make quad-50s, these are specialized pieces and no doubt that lil' Kingcracker got sets just for these pieces that don't come in tubs of normal Legos.

Im pretty happy with the new legos, but the technic series have gone really down. I loved Bionicle when they first came out, bying every kit I could. Now they are just plaing boring and really "childish". Older Tau's, visorak, Rhaaksi and Piraka kicked ass (although the "piraka rap" song pretty much started their downfall.) When they went to the seas, I was happy. When they went to the sky and swamps, I was pretty happy. Now that they are just some "polices" with cliche lines (saw the TV show) they have lost their interestingess IMHO. Two first movies about the original ones were good, but then they went worse.

Agree with everything posted. I remember every single one of those bionicles too. Especially the piraka, which were my favorite. There was so much cool "symbiotic" stuff you could do with them, and the white heads were perfect skulls when the symbiote piece was off Rahkshi were awesome because they use quarterstaffs and had a lot of cool posing options.
I've played with bionicles since they've been released, and save for the last couple 'stories', I bought one model from each. The underwater ones sucked.

Since this topic is on how Lego is getting even more odd, I guess this announcement can go here;
http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/12/17/lord-of-the-rings-receiving-the-lego-treatment-next-summer/
Generally, it’s bad form to put every last ounce of an article’s info in its headline, but that is – quite literally – all the information available. Via a teaser page, Lego’s announced that it’s giving Frodo and friends a nice, blocky makeover. Which, of course, raises the question: How does one wear the one ring of power when they, er, don’t have fingers? Frightening claw appendages are great for many things (holding cups, imitating Darth Vader’s force choke, frightening children, etc), but evil jewelry isn’t one of them. Regardless, I’m sure the game will be charming as a puppy that communicates entirely with hugs and rainbows. It is, as the headline and image suggest, launching in summer of 2012.
Word on the official lego website also says The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey sets will follow in Christmas of 2012.
The sad thing is I'm expecting sets like Helm's Deep to have their walls made of a several thin pieces of plastic, rather than many bricks as they would have been in the old days.

I'm more interested in the potential Travellers Tales tie in Lego console game that will surely surface myself. That would be a must buy. As to Lego, my eight and six year old love the Star Wars stuff, I can see them wanting Lord of the Rings once next year as well. Although due to the delicate nature of some of the kits, I am actually considering supergluing the main hulls and non moving parts together, and buying them a couple of boxes of normal legos to build with.

Honestly, it doesn't seem difficult to figure out that they put more than one face on the Lego heads so that users have more options on the look and facial expression they want for their Lego figures. And yes, the helmets and hair pieces cover up the unused face after you choose which one you want facing forward. Thankfully, the topic is of little consequence, but the fact that this question was asked at all does not present a flattering picture of the average forum user.

My LEGO thing ended with SLIZERS (they were the pre-bionicle LEGO Technic action figure things, that had arms that launched discs), they came out 1998-1999 (in fact I have the 'millenium' slizer, which was a badass looking mutha on a huge bike that they released for the millenium celebrations), there was like 8 kits (representing 8 'sectors')
Heres the wikipedia article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slizer/Throwbots
Those things were awesome, It's kind of where I truly perfected the art of long-continuation storylines (I had 1 storyline running for about 3 months with these figures, complete with combat dismemberment being replaced with crude bionics).
These were my last forays with LEGO, good memories, but memories they will always be.

I think I remember them, all I had was this though.
Don't think it was from the same thing and never used the Axes. However I did get Bionicles when they came out and mixed the fire one with it, stopped getting them after the Rahkshi ones.
The entire time I used the fire one, but built up on the design. No idea where it is, but I actually got to the point where it could transform into sort of a space ship.
Only ended up about 1.5 times the size of it originally.
