Anyone recognise a certain alien spacecraft?

Isnt it set in the Aliens universe?

From the trailer, I'd say that was a categorical yes. Same planet you might say...

Its not The Derelict or World from the first Aliens movie. Its a new ship. Apparantly Scott wants to show us what the 'Gods' did to create us...without actually telling the tale of the Derelict from the first one.

Basically, its set in the aliens universe and will answer some questions about the first movie; but they are wanting to expand the Aliens universe and sort of retire the Xenomorph.

It doesn't look like a horror anyway...

So far some sort of mutation/virus thing was spotted in the trailer. It seems theres gonna be an Alien-ish creature, but not the alien. Its for-sure a horror, in the same vein as Alien.

So do we have to wait another 6 months or 8 months? Because im not sure if i could wait another few weeks for this, let alone 8 months.

I realize this could get me killed by certain friends of mine for saying this,
but this trailer gave me a bigger nerdgasm than the Hobbit. Period. And i'll
find a way to hang until 6-8-12. at least we'll get to see this before the end
of the world(again).

It'd be June as it should be the American dating which is much better than waiting all the way to August.

Brutal. Theres no way i was waiting that extra 2 months. This better be damn good.

Empire have done a pretty good trailer breakdown for those who can't interpret images that flash by in less than a second (i.e. most of us).

Be warned, it is very slightly spoilerific, so if you want to go in completely blind, I would avoid it. That said, their assumptions are based solely on what they see in the trailer images and what Ridley Scott himself has already said.

Totally. And while we're using this orgasm metaphor, I have to say the Hobbit trailer left me unsatisfied and frustrated. Apologies to Ghostrider 2, but Prometheus is definitely THE trailer of December.

It is actully the original 1979 alien prequel. Directed by the same person who directed alien (name slips my mind). It seems like some sort of virus, or some alien organism we havent seen in any of the movies yet. But either way, theres gonna have to be some crazy gak happening to involve the alien.

To be fair I thought Prometheus would be a reference to the Mythological themes Scott had described for this movie.

@Ahtman: I guess Ash's lab on the Nostromo was pretty clean. I think that was also W-Y gear.

The real question is whether the computers will make the clicky noises.

This will be a great movie.

The alien we know isn't going to be in. Thats confirmed. Its also not a prequel.

It's a very small thing but I would like to see some kind of Easter Egg indicating some explanation of the change in the W-Y logo from the Egyptian symbol to the superimposed letters. I see already that the superimposed letters are being used in this film but I thought the Egyptian symbol was incredibly fascinating. Just think of what that could imply.

What Egytian symbol? The only one I found was this:



And there is a shot of Idris Elba where you can see he has a WT symbol on his t-shirt under the jacket.

Also, what are the odds the main computer on the ship will be called Father?

I must say I was quite surprised to see the Wayland logo in the trailer, in Alien the company was just called the company IRC. It was not until Camerons Aliens the name pops up.

It does indicate Ridley has rooted Prometheus firmly in the "Alien" universe rather than it being a distantly related spinoff. I still dont expect to see any actual xenos in the film other than some hints at there genesis.

I wonder if calling the human ship and film Prometheus has any significance.Prometheus stole fire from Zeus and gave it to man, then ended up with an Eagle eating his liver for all eternity. I guess the humans steal something from the space jockeys (alien space gods) and things go a bit pear shaped.

The planet were the derelict is found LV-426, was called Acheron in Alien. One of the rivers running through the Ancient Greek Underworld. Wonder if the ancient Greek references have any greater meaning or if I just have to much time on my hands

Well Mother is really MU-TH-UR in Alien. I'll be damned if I know what it stands for, but I always imagined it as a standard computer AI that could fill a myriad of roles.

I don't think it will be called Father. Too much association with the crap-tastic Alien IV.

I was going to say that i thought Father was the Computer from A:R. Maybe this one will be little cousin Billy.

And maybe i'm getting that old now, but i thought the Company in Alien was just Wayland - no Yutani yet.
