I think you might be right about that Wayland.

Hence why we hear it in ALIEN and ALIENS. (Ship and Atmosphere Processor)

I don't think it will be called Father. Too much association with the crap-tastic Alien IV.

Oh that is right. Forgot all about A:R.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

And there is a shot of Idris Elba where you can see he has a WT symbol on his t-shirt under the jacket.
You can see it more clearly on Sir Ridley's hat in the pre-trailers. It's also on the rovers. Here you go:

I think it's a Space Jockey head/helmet?

It could be Horus or Ra. I thought Isis cause of that famous image of her with her wings outstretched. But that circly thingy is kind of sunny.

The Egyptian symbol was one of Ron Cobb's designs for the Weyland-Yutani logo.

The thing that they are shining the flashlights on is the space jockey's severed head or helmet.

Ah cheers guys.

Never realised that it was actually present in ALIEN.

I'm not too sure whether this will have any bearing on the story or not. I think it's a tad too subtle to be relevant.

Watching one of the interviews with Scott, he was saying how he 'Wondered why nobody ever questioned what the Space Jockey was...'

WHAT?

You crazy, Ridley.

At one point, the xenomorphs were to be found in a pyramid complete with ancient Egyptian like artwork.

This was dropped as a result of budgetary concerns as well as due to David Giler and Wlater Hill rewriting Dan O'Bannon's script. Now keep in mind that O'Bannon was a friend of Ron Cobb (they worked on Dark Star together), who handled a lot of the the design for Alien, including the Egyptian logo for Weyland -Yutani. The xenomorph was also drastically different in O'Bannon's early script. When it emerged from a host's body, it was bloodthirsty but lost this trait as it grew. A full-grown xenomorph was capable of education -- and not the "kill my enemies" way, either. O'Bannon envisioned the pyramid as having been built by a lost civilization of scholarly xenomorphs for whom their reproduction cycle was of extreme ritual importance.

Well, as we all know, that ship sailed. Giler and Hill rewrote the xenomorph to be a killing machine. Giler and Hill, as well as Ridley Scott himself, seemed to think the that the xenomorphs were created as weapons rather than being a lifeform that naturally evolved. As it turned out, such a thing was never (yet) confirmed in the films -- but never fear; Weyland-Yutani saw the potential. Right, Burke?

But the pyramid image was never totally exorcised from the franchise. Remember the reactor built by Weyland-Yutani on LV-426 in Aliens (which the alien queen chose as her hive) or how about the pyramid built by the yautja built on Antarctica in AvP (later shown in the video game to have been built by them elsewhere, as well)? And, although xenomorphs were not ultimately conceptualized as forming civilizations, the same is obviously not true of the space jockey race. My original point was that it will be interesting to see if any of this comes up in Prometheus. Keep in mind that Cobb had designed the superimosed W over Y logo for Weyland-Yutani at the same time as the Egyptian logo. Did the Egyptian logo make it into the movie instead of the W-Y logo because Ridley Scott liked it more? I don't know.

But the logo he's using in Prometheus does seem to be an amalgam of the two. Given that Wyeland-Yutani is a very creepy corporation and the major plot twist in Alien (that the corporation actually already knew about the crashsite on LV-426), there are some cool possibilities here.

But didn't Yutani only show up in Aliens? Wasn't it just Wayland at first?

To answer your question more directly, alarmingrick, the company that owned the Nostromo was Weyland-Yutani, not Weyland Industries.
