Anyone else like this w/ a game? On any system?

I find myself at this point w/ Gears of War. I remember when it came out and the ad campaign was great. It was before I got my 360 and was looking more towards the PS3. I remember an ad that was more an audio file of a mother w/ her child, trying to get the child to stop crying saying they will finds us. Then a crash, a growl and a scream. Loved it.

Was given a 360 and was regretting not getting it earlier. Picked up Gears and worked my way through the game. Even though I finished the game, I was kinda let down. Not sure why. I guess I was expecting more or something else.

I knew Gears 2 came out but bought other stuff and put it off. Been playing the crap out of Skyrim and wanted something to offset my current obsession that is Skyrim. So, I bought Gears 2, used, and started playing it. At this point, I'm in the big worm and find myself wondering why I'm not into it.

So, am I the only one, or are there others that feel this way? (not w/ just Gears games, but any game)

With gears, the story is the only thing that interested me.

As for other games.

Starcraft 2, played 2 missions, never touched it again.

Arcania: gothic 4. Loved 1 and 2, and 4 is more of the same. Played for about an hour, it just feels off for some reason.

DoW2 Retribution. Just didn't feel it anymore. Never went further then 2 or 3 missions with Orks.

Total War games. They have everything I should want from a game but I can't bring myself to play them for any length of time.

There's just no spark.

I kinda felt that way with Skyrim, don't get me wrong! I still love Skyrim, but it just didn't keep me hooked like Oblivion did.

Minecraft, i've had it since may/june, i think, havent really given it much playtime.
Played it a couple days ago and really enjoyed myself but i have never been tempted to join my mates server or indeed the Dakka one.

Also Frozen Synapse, superb game with the best story since portal but i am just not very strategic. Well i am plenty strategic in a game like Battlefield 3 but not an RTS.

Final Fantasy XIII? It just didn't do it for me. I wanted to like it and I have always been a big fan of the series but it was very meh. I heard that the sequel is supposed to be much better. However I watched the trailer on it that talked about the story and I was completely lost. I had no idea what they were talking about. It is kind of hard to excited about a game that supposedly has it issues fixed when compared to the previous one and then realize you need to play the one you hate just to understand the next one.

Felt the same way about all the Gears games myself. I like to describe the series as souless. Idk what it is about it but the game controlls fine, it works fine, its not bad but I just can't find anything about it to make it worth playing. I have 3 but I just can't play it. I get so bored...

Exception of Horde mode. Horde mode = pwnsome.

Spore isnt a matter of taste, its terrible all around no matter how you cut it

As a lover of evolution, palaeontology and the sims I wanted spore to be good so badly

That's because Final Fantasy XIII is a terrible game.

I felt the same way about 3/4 of the way through Halo 2.

Try playing it co-op with a friend?

Gears of war was a solid, fun, third person shooter when it came out.

It was also the best looking thing on the 360 up to that point.

Since then its been eclipsed by just about every other AAA shooter title IMO.

Probably Skyrim.

I actually thought that the combat in 13 was better than most of the bad comparisons.

I have obsessively played 7, 9, X and X-2 to ridiculous completion and was very excited about 13 on the PS3. It is crushing that I cannot even bring myself to play all the way through it.

From what I have heard the sequel improves everything but the story, which is worse.

I have played most of the FF games and liked most of them. I got excited about FFX-2 and started playing it. Not sure when, but at some point, I realized I was playing Final Fantasy Dress-Up. Stopped playing it and never played it again.

Modern Warfare, but most of the MechWarrior games are also overrated.

They could have called it circle-strafe and been perfectly accurate.

Most of the game i want to like are fine in single player.
It's other people that ruin them for me... the curse of multiplayer...

FFXIII was horrible but I complained more about the story than anything. Usually heroes have redeeming qualities. But I couldn't find any in a cast of whiny children who won't stop talking about how much life sucks.

Bioshock i agree with. Nothing wrong with it. It's story actually interested me but I didn't enjoy it much. The game was too drawn out I think and didn't have enough to keep me interested between story bits.

The story bored me more than any other part of the game (even getting the best weapons within 5 minutes of starting), the whole thing screamed "twist ending" because, if there was no twist, there was no point.

Also agree with Bioshock...
I got intensely bored within an hour of gameplay.

Battlefield 3... was really excited to try something "different" in the modern FPS genre compared with expected stale MW outings and just spent a few days getting killed by people with 10x more gear and upgrades than me as well as getting run over by "friendly" players in jeeps trying to make sure I didn't take "their" vehicle spawn.

Halo Reach was my game I didn't like as much as I should. Actually, all the halo games after the first one. Don't know why.

Halo Reach. I like the multiplayer alright (not as much as I liked Halo 3's multiplayer at the time I had Halo 3), and I REALLY wanted to like the campaign, because I'm a huge fan of the Halo universe and it's background, but Reach just didn't feel like a Space Opera. I really missed how dynamic everything was in the previous games, and how the story felt so much bigger when you were on a planet sized installation. But Reach's campaign felt kind of bland as far as the story went. You knew the ending.


I'm sure 343 will deliver an awesome game with Halo 4, however, and make Halo feel like Halo again.

I kind of also wish they would Canonize the multiplayer. Spartans vs spartans does not make sense. They could do something really cool if they made the MP fit into the story.
