Hello people and welcome to my P&M blog! I'm very new to the hobby/game which is 40k and so far this will be dedicated to all my painting/modeling attempts and projects as I try to piece together my first playable 40k army.
My first choice in army has been Chaos undivided! The mighty CSM

I would like all the criticism, hints and ideas anyone and everyone is willing to share with me on the models I post or techniques I use/attempt to use [or could use] as I try to gain my footing in all this.

My resources are limited but I'm going to give it my all, I hope to eventually do a butt load of conversions and stuff outside of CSM but I'm going to try and not get ahead of myself here lol.

==
i know i need better lighting for my pictures, im going to try and work something out for the next batch of photos i take.

the Following models are what i have so far.

the gray primed are to try different paint schemes, not to sure what colors ill be using as of yet but since i have no paints or brushes i think ill have enough time to figure it out.

this is my idea so far. the purple/gray im thinking of using as my basic colors and the purple/black for my champions.im toying with the idea of using a deep/darker red instead of purple. dont mind opinions.

==
Conversion of Space wolf Logan Grimnar into Chaos Terminator Lord. His left arm is still off im waiting to get a arm to put a Twin Linked Bolter on him. the spear is a Daemon weapon of course. =D

Thats all i got for now, my progress might be really slow and i might do things abit backward but i hope to improve.

Thank you for your time

Outside the DarkTower, amongst the roses.

I like the idea of using space wolfs bits on chaos..might have to steal the idea. Good luck.

First off, welcome to the game!

It looks like you're off to a great start so far. My one suggestion would be to try and chaos up the lord just a little bit more. He's starting to look really good, but he still seems too space-wolfish to me.

As for paint, Boltgun Metal and Badab Black are your friend. A basecoat of that over primer will get the metallic look you're looking for, and you can do the yellow/gold and pink/purple over that. Good luck!

thank you for your comments, that will really help me when i get to my painting.
when it comes to putting more chaos into my terminator lord i can understand where your coming from, i just find it hard on deciding what to add onto him.

Try to find some space marine or eldar heads to stick on spikes all over his armor. Really drive home the point that this dude has killed millions, and is SERIOUSLY not to be messed with

+update+

Okay well today i got my first paints and paint brushes! after spending a few hours at my local shop chatting it up with other players and watching a game i was so hyped up i painted my very first miniature! my hands are not the steadiest but i tried to make it look right. i used the above color scheme idea but substituted the purple for red.

i used Shining Gold, Gore red, Boltgun metal, Skull white, Mithril silver and scorpion green.
please share any and all opinions on it.

the green in the eye is spilling over a little due to trying to put a line along a accidental scratch turned into minor battle damage that just doesn't show well lol. btw given i intended this to be 'paint fodder' i didnt spend a lot of time filing down the marks from the sprue and being enthusiastic i didnt realize it while painting until it was too late. i would love to hear opinions on the color scheme itself as well as the paint job.

thanks for your time i hope to have more to show more sooner than later.

It's pretty good, even though its quick and only uses one shade per colour. I'm sure that when you get access to more shades it'll look even better.

Badab black will do some easy shading and lowlighting for you. It'll also make your colors blend in a bit more, instead of being a little on the stark side. Your hands will steady up in time, so don't worry about that

Over all, pretty darn good. Definitely better than my first models!

thanks for the advice
im glad it came out halfway decent but as a friend has pointed out they look a little 'Iron Warriors' which wasnt my intention in the least but i guess thats not a bad thing.
i most definitely want to explore washes.

wanted to see what they look like in a group. seen nice paint jobs seem 'off' when applied to groups but i think my scheme looks descent enough.

tried to do some effect on the horns to make it look like bone.

so far im working on some raptors, CSM and a Predator tank. so well see where that all goes

Looks like your hands are getting steadier. If you need a TL bolter for the terminator lord, just glue 2 bolters together XD

Seriously, even in the fluff it says that TL bolters are just two guns welded together. I really like the paint scheme, should look really sick on the tabletop.

I really like the color sceme, it suits them well. If you keep this up, you will have a great looking army that will be an honor to play against.

Agreed, they're looking good. But might I suggest a bit of red on the legs? Would help tie the entire model together.

@sword wind
Red on the legs? Seems interesting, I was playing with the idea of red on the chest or boots but not the legs. Gave me something to think about thanks.

@the3maninblak
That helps, I'll see if I have a couple bolters around in my bitz pile.

I totally hope to play a game with yah. Still hate I missed watching your game before

okay well here are my Chaos Raptors, they need some paint and of course jump packs but other than that i think there great

to be honest im not to familiar with all the looks of the weapons and alot of my stuff comes 2nd hand so i often have problems telling a flamethrower from a meltgun and bolt pistol from plasma pistol so from time to time i might ask what a certain weapon is so if people more knowledgeable than myself would please answer my questions i would greatly appreciate it.

So far there are 1X camp w/ Powersword, 3X Flamers, 1X Bolt pistol and i think 2X Meltguns.
but im not to sure about the 2nd meltgun.
well here are the pictures =D

[not sure about the above raptors weapon]

Seems about right. Those are some old school sick looking raptors. You need some standard BP/CCW dudes though.

i plan on getting some of the newer raptors and using most of them with standard wargear. to be honest im not to sure on how many to keep standard but so far that was my plan going into building my raptor squads.

yeah i like the older ones better, a lot of human flesh on those models

thanks th3maninblak & swordwind for confirming the weapons for me ill try to remember the differences not to be a bother.

No bother at all. Technically what I'm about to say should be in the tactics thread, but a little strategy blurb can't hurt.

Raptors are unique as jump infantry in 2 ways. The first is their ability to take 2 special weapons in a minimum sized 5 man squad. This comes out to a neat 120 points with 2 melta guns (which you should take), and makes an insanely good tank hunting squad. The second unique trait is that while ALL other assault marines trade their bolt pistol for a special weapon (thus losing the +1 attack for having both a Pistol and Close Combat weapon), Raptors take that weapon on top of their other wargear. This is awesome.

oh wow that sounds just down right awesome! so 2 special weapons for each 5+man squad?
i already have 3Xflamers and 2Xmeltguns with 1X bolt pistol and a Champ..humm..so i would need 5 more standard gear raptors
to round out 2 squads of 2Xflamers,3X bolt pistol,1Xchamp and 2XMeltagun, 3XBolt pistol,1X champ correct?

XD I think you need to read over your codex just a bit more.

Ok, so for your average squad, you would need this.

3+ dudes with BP/CCW
2 dudes with special weapons

You don't actually NEED the champion, and for small squads I wouldn't suggest him. However, in larger squads (say 10) you'd end up needing something like this.

1x Champ with assorted wargear (icon and either a Power Fist or lightning claws)
2 dudes with special weapons
7x BP/CCW guys.

Yeah I tend to not fully grasp the codex and the different things in it no matter how seemingly simple lol so thanks for the help with the raptor rundown it's helped.
I only included the champions since I would have them and figured I'd factor them in. I had thought two units simply to shoot at tanks with meltguns and rain he'll fire with the team with flamers. Seems I might be lacking more knowledge than I thought in this

so... yeah. When exactly were you planning on telling me that you started your P&M blog?

Ha.

Your paint skills are much better than what you think they are, especially just starting out. The color scheme is solid. As far as "Iron Warriors" go, I've found that if you have as much as a dab of BG Metal on your main armor people make that comparison. It is what it is.

Advice on the quickets way to give your models that solid "finished" look- pick up some Gryphonne Sepia and Devlin Mud. It's so completely worth the few bucks it cost. You're seen my Plague Marines ( I think?) and the worn / rusted / dirty look to them is from a wash of Sepia and a later wash of Mud.

Nice load-out on the Raptors. I hope you find some nice juicy Imperial tanks to rip up soon.

Hey! Didn't I send you a link in a PM? I could of sworn I did
Thanks for the kind words it's nice to hear my painting Is starting off good. I had some concerns about the scheme but iv gotten nothing but positive feedback so I'm going to try and keep my units and tanks along the same scheme with some additions of black and bronze. (berserkers and thousand sons excluded)

Of course iv seen your plague marines they look awesome! If I can achieve that worn look I'll be happy. Do I apply it to those whole model? Red silver and gold alike?

Heres hoping the tanks go BOOM And take all the imperials within inches with it lol

Sadly no, I'm working with a tight budget with little wiggle room and often when I find a deal I don't have the money.
