Im looking at my army and im wondering. How do i know when i have enough models? I know i can never truly have enough but when do i get to the point when yuo have more then you may use?
I have one of every marine tank(excluding razor backd ans to LR variants,) pretty much one of every squad, i can field an army of bikes.
i have many heavy weapons. But i have barely tried this army out.
So m just wondering, when is enough enough?
Should i be focusing more on transports and bettey hobby supplies?

Enough is never enough!

I don't think there will be a point that I will stop buying over priced bits of plastic from GW. I always tell myself that I don't need any more guardsmen but always seem to find myself clicking the "checkout" button with a cartload of guardsmen boxes.

I need to paint 10 more models and I'll have completed my Crimson Fists 2nd Company. This is excluding the 50 men in my 1st Company, large contingent of scouts, extra HQs, dedicated transports and armor.

Only now am I thinking I have enough. Also, there's a curse. If a wargamer paints all their models, their Johnson falls off. Fact. So yeah, go buy more models.

If you want to buy more models, well, buy more models. It's your hobby, after all, it is meant to be fun. And if it makes you feel good to collect more models, there's no reason to stop.* Not even a girlfriend, because if she doesn't want you to do what makes you happy, she has been your girlfriend for too long.

Also, you can always field anything and any number of models in apocalypse.

*(except monetary shortcomings, obviously, and even more obviously, food and a place to live should be a higher priority, but I think that didn't actually need mentioning and I only do because I do not know if everyone else agrees with that...)

"We train young men to drop fire on people, but their commanders won't allow them to write "feth" on their airplanes because it's obscene!" (Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now)

And you know what's funny? "feth" is actually censored on a forum about a dystopia where the nice guys are the ones who kill only millions of innocents, not billions.

This, exactly.

I started with a Space Marine Megaforce. This had 1 tactical squad, 1 assault squad, 1 predator, 1 rhino, 1 dreadnought, 5 scouts (Think that is all) and somehow starting off (not sure if it was in the force) I had another tactical squad and a command squad followed by Sicarius and Telion.

I have sense sold everything except the scouts, and what did I do with it all? Re-bought the SAME EXACT STUFF, why? Because I got better at painting and did not want to strip the old models, I started to magnetize tanks and so on. Sense then I have replaced all my my tacticals with death company or assault marine legs (I play Ultramarines) simply because I wanted action poses for the marines running out of drop pods. In addition to this I have marines, scouts, terminators, tanks, dreadnoughts, bits, BITS, and..MORE BITS, coming out of my ears. The same is nearly true of my Imperial Guard.

Long story short, even if you start to stop buying, you'll just replace something, spend more on paints, or *shudders* start looking at a 2nd or 3rd army to play.

I love the hobby, and I will likely ALWAYS have something to build or paint.

Now only to finally get to building my Thunderhawk...eeek! How am I gonna mount the dang thing on a base! *tears*

But i have barely tried this army out.

Thats the crux for me.

Take the units you do have and give them a whirl, even if its VS yourself to see what they can do or not do.

You might find they work brilliantly for you or you might find that having only 1 tank of each type or only 1 tactical squad just fails miserably.

If its the latter think about what else you might need, proxy a few games to get some ideas.
If its the former and everyhing works great, then assess your finances and maybe look at getting another army or start Fantasy etc.

God that was a really boring answer, sorry!

playing against oneself can get kind of fun with enough randomness thrown in. I just got a nice idea on how to do random army elements fighting it out by randomly generating a force based on your models. So... the more models you have, the more randomly fun it can be!

sounds like you feel the need to collect everything regardless of what it is or even if you like it or not.

personally i would only collect things that i like. i for example find space marine tanks boring, i dont care how good GW makes them, i still wouldnt buy any - leave the tanks to guard IMO. same thing with space marine bikers, i'm not a fan - orcs i could see using bikes, for MEQ it's lame. if i dont like the model i wouldnt buy it regardless of how "good" it is.

For me, enoguh is when you have the max amount of every unit you could take.

My orks are more or less there. I could buy another 2 battlewagons for when my Nobz are being troops, another 6 units of bikes for when Wazdakka wants to go to the max, another 2 deffdredds for when my big meks have a fit of insanity and field 3 dredds instead of kanz..

But i won't. I have enough fething orks to paint as it is

I may pick up a stompa though, mainly to make a scaffolded stompa-under-construction scenery piece.

I'll freely admit i have a hoarding problem with my models, which i occasionally try to alleviate by selling or trading an army, but my game room is running seriously low on shelf space. My wife's Eldar and my daughter's proto-nid swarm are also eating the room, as are my three itty bitty (for now...not for long) Warmachine armies, and my wife's one..

I think i may need proffesional psychological help, but i can't afford it due to buying models

I cannot comprehend this unheard of philosophy called "enuff modlz."
But if you have to choose, get your hands on transports. They're more essential than supplies. Most people at my Games workshop don't complete their armies anyway.

When you can field every single possible combination of units and wargear in your codex in a FOC, you have enough models for that army.

When you can do that for every codex, you have enough models.

Unless you play apoc, then there's no limit.

You're doing better than me

I've been playing my Orks on and off since RT, and i'm still only about 1/2 done painting them Doesn't help that i've updated them a few times with newer models.

That said there have been a few (ok..lots!) of other untis that got the painting love and so on, but are no longer with me

If i'd stuck to just orks they might be done by now, but probably not I'm a really slow painter with a bad case of army ADD.

If you can field the entire FOC, IE 2 HQ, 3 elite, 6 troops, 3 fast attack, 3 heavy support. You're basically done. Having a few extra things to switch in and out is always nice, such as having more HQ's.

When is enough, enough?

When you no longer want any of the new models being released.

For me, this happened two years ago for marines.
My eldar will remain as they are until they get new sculpts of warp spiders, wraithguard or jetbikes.

My GK are unchanged from their 3rd ed version. None of the new models were better than what I had.

You know you have enough models when your bank account is dry and the credit card company comes to repo all your stuff. Then you find yourself living out of your army cases and turning tricks for some glue to fix that shoulder pad that fell off.

Or you know you have enough models when the people from the show 'Hoarders: Buried Alive' shows up at your door step.

You can legitimately claim you have enough minis when you can say that you can field an entire hive fleet of nids, and entire chapter of marines, an entire waaaaaaagh of Orks, an entire regiment of Guard, etc. Til then, you are never done...
