So yes, what will we do without devlan mud?
Thanks guys, I was going to switch to vallejo anyway and did not mean to start any flame wars.

You buy vallejo black or vallejo smoke?
Mix both with water?
Realize it works better than dev mud?
Realize 2 bottles of vallejo can produce 40 pots equivalent of devlan mud?

Well, let me think...this is Dakkadakka so...
Phase 1: Complain bitterly, probably a few heartfelt vows of how THIS (and not the previous this-es) will be what ruins GW forever
Phase 2: Repeat phase 1 ad naseum
Phase 3: People will tell people to shut up, and that they are making a mountain out of a molehill
Phase 4: People from Phase 3 will be called GW fanboys, people from Phases 1/2 will be called GW haters
Phase 5: Flamewars until locked
Phase 6: We'll all find an alternative and move on with our lives until the next WORST POSSIBLE THING comes around to ruin GW forever

I tried the new nuln oil wash, and it was far superior to badab black... I can only assume the new brown equivalent will be decent too.

Now that the actual Devlan Mud is impossible to find, I tried vallejo game color's version and it's fantastic! #73203 Umber Shade works every bit as well as the GW wash from what I've tested it out on so far, perhaps with a bit less pooling issues. It has a similar viscous oil consistency and It even dries with a matte finish like GW washes. It's also cheaper for almost half again as much wash.
I haven't tried the rest of the vallejo washes yet, but I'm sold enough on the Umber Shade that I'll probably pick up all 8 next time I'm at my FLGS. I'll probably try out their super opaque line too or whatever it's called, I need more charadon granite and dheneb stone which they vallejo makes equivelants for.

Try mixing different amount of water, you'll love the result. You can even keep on adding water onto the miniature if needed.

I went into my local GWS, new new paints are MUCH MUCH better, it will take a bit of getting used too, but the paints are of a much higher standard, there is much much much more we can do with the new paint range, if I'm honest, I'm a little excited and I'm considering buying a new army to play around with the paints on. I'm sure you guys will learn to love it Or you will just stick to your GWS alternative.

Haha right, I'm thinking of when the 'Branstons' factory burned down in the UK and pots of Branston Pickle started to appear on ebay for £100+ (they were back in production soon after ^^ )
Someone here on Dakka said that they managed to get their hands on the new Devlan Mud equivalent (Agarax Earthshade), and it works just the same and smells fine.
Thanks Some_call_me_Tim? I was wondering what the new equivalent would be.
TBH I might use this as an opportunity to switch to Vallejo or even see what the army painter stuff is like, the Citadel ones are so expensive the only reason I had stuck with them previously was continuity of colours.

Personaly, I really like the new shades/glazes I have tried, they work really well.
I'm sure the new Agrax Earthshade will be a good alternative. GW aren't stupid, they wouldn't get rid of one of their best/most popular paints.
