Where the sun crosses the field of blood.

So, recently in the FoW forum there was a little mention of this, and I became curious. What exactly does your army of choice, or game of choice, say about you?
I personally have no idea, but it seems to me that when you choose an army it's because it appeals to you on most hobby levels (looks, fluff, gameplay), and surely this choice must have an origin somewhere within your psyche which would speak a little of your personality or mindset.
Of course it's nothing as obvious as "You play Orks, that means you savage and stupid LOL!", but rather something subconscious... I hope
Which game you play could probably also say something about you. What is the difference between a WHFB and a 40k player? And a FoW player, or an Infinity player?
But well... I don't have any thoughts beyond that, so let the discussion commence! Do you think an army or game tells something of the psyche or mindset of it's player? If yes, then what exactly would each game/faction tell you?

I simply love playing armies that infuriate other players. Not because they would be OP but rather due to various dickish abilities that make enemy models or tactics useless.

In 40k I love pinning weapons and I loved the minelayer Whirlwinds in the previous SM codex. If I still played, I would probably go poison-heavy DE and not care about what Toughness the enemy has.

In Warmahordes Mk1, Circle and Cryx used to fit me to a T, they basically let me play my own game regardless of what the other guy did. This was largely removed in Mk2.

So what does that say about me? I'm a dick?

40K: Primary Army ~ Orks. Secondary Army ~ Chaos.
Orks~ Kan Wall / Shooty List.
Chaos~ Lash / Mech CSM List.

WFB: Primary Army ~ Skaven. Secondary Army ~ Dwarves.
Skaven ~ 7th ed Plague / Combat Skaven & 7th Skyre.
Dwarves~ 8th ed Combat / Hammerers / blocks.
Former: Demons Bloodcrushers heavy / bloodletter heavy.

WMHD: Primary Army ~ Searforge. Secondary Army ~ Khador.
Searforge~ slow, durable, forgeguard heavy.
Khador~ big, slow, Jack Heavy.

So what does that say:
Apparantly I'm drawn to combat. I like heavy hitting infantry in all systems, with the exception being Khador where I focus on Karchev / Jacks. My armies tend to be slow, minus 40k Chaos which is Mechanized / Wings. Orks are kinda slow, waagn speeds them up. I don't player the "top tier" armies. In WFB I always played Skaven, which presents a lot of random destruction. My 7th list was heavy on Doom Flayers and Doom Wheels. My Dwarves I like to present Hammer to face and get stuck in. I had a few warmachines like 1 cannon & 1 grudge thrower, but used missile troops for range. It appears I like to put axe / weapon to face and get it down in combat I don't play finesse armies !

To me, it seems that you like to provoke your opponents... Or perhaps you're slightly dominating in nature, preferring to be in control of the situation by rendering your "opponent's tactics useless".
Bear in mind that this is only guesses from my part. We would need a psychologist to get a good answer

But what do you think that says about you as a person then?
If I'm allowed to guess, you sound like a straightforward person who prefers to keep things simple and effective rather than taking a more complex route to do things.
Again, this is only guesses as I'm trying to understand the mind of gamers I could be completely wrong of course.

I started with Necrons and absolutely loved them, even when they were utterly terrible. I fielded Pariahs in as many games as I possibly could. I've always been a fan of the undead though. Anytime me and my friends have done a DnD game I am always a necromancer or something similar. Following a similar vain it was not difficult to then pick up a Nurgle army as our Plague Father often works with zombies. The Lizardmen, Orks, and DKoK I can't really explain away... I just like the color blue and could make them all different shades

Imperial Guard - "Everyone gets super weapons and all I get is a flashlight and a knife? Alright then, let's do this!"

While I plan to eventually branch into black templar and eldar at some point in the future, my main will always be guard, and I will always run them as blob squads. Individually weak and ineffective but when amassed can take down the super heroes of the galaxy through sweat and steel pokings. I've always been a fan of underdogs, and people who generally are playing life on "hard mode". No other race quite matches this like the guardsmen do.

As for fantasy, my first and main is oddly Ogres. They're big, stupid, fat, immensely strong, and very very hungry. After guard, I wanted to run an army that was quite the opposite of the humble guardsmen, so I went with the army that has the strongest core units in the game statwise. The idea of a huge wall of fat, muscle, and mouth descending upon you no matter how brave you are or how thick your armor is is a terrifying situation to be in.

Finally, in Hordes, I ran with Circle Orboros. I've always been a fan of nature, but I don't like elves too much. When I first started it up I hated the idea of running Tharn, but after seeing the artistic portrayal of their female warriors, I was hooked. Those guys just wait in the darkest and thickest woods, and just look for a chance to impale you on a spear then eat your heart before sacrificing whats left to ancient primal gods of slaughter.

Sooooo I think the only recurring theme here is I don't like running evil factions (For what it's worth I started Orboros because of the warpwolves and skinwalkers. Damn those are cool models). I can't see any other connection between guardsmen, ogres, and druids.

I think this article is a better explanation for the type of player you are:

http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtgcom/daily/mr220b

So, for example, if you're an Eldar spike you will only build and
play things that will win games. If you're an Eldar johnny, you'll
build lists that express your personality or idea that represents
you. Maybe you want to run the Swooping Hawk army or whatever.

Etc.

I play Imperial Guard and plan to buy Space Marines... feth if I can afford it, but that won't stop me from amassing my guard army. Slowly but surely...
I just always side with the humans. Every time. I guess it's my underdog rooting habit. I always want Team Rocket to win, I always root for the opponent of the hero during a fight, and I like it when soldiers can take down super powered beings. Same with Imperial Guard. Sure, they tend to be portrayed as losing all the time. Their members tend to be used as basing materials and bitz for armor decor if you get me. Sure, they die and lose when the plot requires it. And oooohh how the plot requires it. I suppose I play Guard so I can play the underdogs beating the big dogs. I also enjoy firepower so overwhelming all those nice bells and whistles just becomes a load of scrap. I also think they have the coolest looking tanks. Hate on the Leman Russ, but I think it's badass.

I play Space Marines because A)They will always be viable. B) They are friggin' Cheap second hand. C) They look awesome. I also like the look of the Land Raider.

I also wanted to start a Eldar army. Dunno why, though.

I play unconventional 40K lists. I like the scale of 40K, in that I like larger battles rather than small skirmishes.

My Orks are confusing to most opponents because of my list choices, leaving them unsure of how to approach the battle. I love the confusion and ability to ruthlessly crush them before they get a real idea of how to react to my army.

My Eldar is a wraith list. I haven't finished building all my wraithguard, so I've been proxying for the few games I've played. I love disarming my opponent from a distance while shrugging off their attacks. Mindwar to snipe threats combined with the resilience of Wraithlords makes for a fun time.

My tau list is a combination of the two. My list is a little unconventional, but like my Eldar, I neuter my opponent before going in for the kill.

...Really, it depends on the day. I think all in all, I like to think I play with style and efficiency while remaining a fun and friendly opponent. I guess it also suggests that while I would have described myself as someone who plays the defensive, I'm more aggressive than I thought.

I am a very straightforward person. I live a very simple life, and hate drama and BS. I formally played a lot of finesse armies. I as a strictly Eldar player for many years. Then I took a gaming break, and discovered there is so much more to the gaming and hobby. I decided to go with Orks for the converting potential, and fun. I built a ork 40K army to 5000 pts fully painted and sold it, then did a 3000pt WFB and sold it. Now I have my GT orks, which are on here. What you see in peoples armies shows you a small segment of them. I am drawn to play armies based on the models. I played Searforge in WMHD as I got the starter back for $20 on sale. Khador as I liked the look of Karchev. 40k I knew the game from when I was a kid. I restarted my CSM as I had a Iron Warrior counter assault / mech list back in 3rd and wanted to have a Iron Warrior army on display in my house again. Orks, they are orks. When you play them, if you enjoy them, you may just get sucked in and always compare everything to them.

Omadon's Realm

I have orks in 40k because when I moved to Bristol and decided to get back into 40k, because my friends there were still playing, the armies already taken were tau, ultramarines, blood angels and eldar. Now I'm not a fan of imperial vs imperial games and especially not marine vs marine, I considered Chaos but I strongly dislike the current model range (marines with spikes) and the Orks had recently started to be redone, the new models were looking amazing (Mr Nelson, take a bow!) and so I took them up.

I was previously an Eldar player, back in 2nd and early 3rd. And back, way back, a Black Legion player, in the realm of chaos days. I won't collect a marine army as I'm against just how much MEQ dominates 40k to the detriment of the non-MEQ armies being updated and maintained.

In WHFB, I have started playing WoC as an all Slaanesh army, because I'm curmudgeonly about how chaos is currently portrayed as opposed to how I remember it in the eldritch horror days of the 2 enormous Realm of Chaos books. I chose Slaanesh because it was always my favourite god of the Big4, probably due to my love of the Hellraiser films and the fact that it's the most horrific and disturbing of the gods.

As a player, to my discredit, I'm far less than sharp on the rules. To my credit, I think I'm an easy going player and make for a good opponent. I think there is probably a strong link to my transition from eldar to orks in my getting older and giving far less of a gak about things. (I've just started out on dark eldar as well, I chose them because they are going to be highly different to the orks in playstyle and because I liked the models.).

Well in WHFB I play Dark Elves. I'm extremely reckless in the magic phase, sometimes throwing all of my dice at a single spell to get Irresistible Force. Sometimes it works, sometimes it backfires horribly and I lose my Sorceress. In one game against tomb kings my supreme sorceress was reduced to level 0 in the first turn after casting Pit of Shades with IF. To add insult to injury, the Pit of Shades scattered off the unit I was aiming at and hit nobody. I made up for it in a later game where I managed to get Occam's Mindrazor off two turns in a row with IF (luckily rolling good results on the miscast table, Pendant of Khaeleth I love you), allowing my unit of corsairs to wipe out two units of 12 Chaos Warriors both in a single round of close combat (including killing one their unit champions with mine in a challenge, though he died to the attacks back as they had equal initiative). At the end of the game I only had 4 Corsairs left in that unit (from a starting number of 28) but they were still Frenzied and getting ready to charge the guys Tzeench Sorcerer.

In 40k I play Tau. Most of the time I stick to the standard Tau doctrine of long range firepower but occasionally throw my opponent off guard with Crisis suits assaulting if I think that there's good odds of them winning the combat. 2 S5 attacks each can be pretty effective at mopping up a unit of Ork Nobs if you've just thinned them down with rapid firing plasma rifles and Missile Pods, especially as you'll probably be striking first as your opponent has been keeping his Power Klaws alive with wound allocation.

So in both cases I like to take a few risks, throw out some unconventional tactics from time to time and try to keep my opponent on the back foot. I guess that makes me reckless, aggressive and a bit unpredictable. I will also laugh maniacally as I watch your unit (and my own Sorceress) get sucked into the realm of Chaos. You either laugh or cry.

Not sure if my armies would say something about me but here goes...
WHFB: Orcs & Goblins. I loved their whacky, random yet pretty destructive style since the beginning. I started with a Night Goblin Fanatic heavy army, in more recent years I turned more to the Orcs of all kinds, plus a sprinkle of Night Goblins and Mangler Squigs.
40k: Necrons. What drew me to them was their old fluff. Ancient, implacable evil, soulless machines, you know the story.

What all this says about me? No idea. I suppose that I like it fluffy most of all (OnG are steeped in character and are always fun to play, Necron fluff I loved). So I suppose that makes me a person with imagination?
Also I don't play to win. I play to play. It's a game and I like it and if I win, even better. That makes me... playful

Oh yes, also I enjoy both Sci-Fi and Fantasy. Maybe Fantasy a bit more. So that makes me a fantastic guy.

I don't think your faction says much about you definitively, but the paintjob (or lack thereof) and amount of conversions in your army definitely can be an indicator of what type of hobbyist you are.

I'm a Biomedical Engineer in real life, so I'm naturally drawn towards high-tech especially in the form of biotech.

I started 40k a long time ago, and I was drawn towards the organic-looking design and high-tech of the Eldar. I also really love the Tyranids for the organic reason.
I'd play Necrons, but GW...

In Infinity, I play both Aleph and Haqqislam. Aleph is the really 'high-tech' faction and they're almost all robotic or biomechanical in some form. On the more humanistic-side, Haqqislam is the faction most obsessed with biological innovation.
I'd play Combined Army, but I have to finish out Haqqislam first.

In Malifaux, I play Arcanists. Arcanists have all the cool robots and machines. The Guild may have some, but the Arcanists are not afraid of innovating and slapping a human element onto the whole thing. Thus, I play/like Ramos the most.

WHFB. I have a very primal sense of mind. I've been called savage, sometimes literally more so then for fun. I knew I wanted to play Chaos as the extremely dark occult faction in an extremely grimdark world appeals to me. The Beastmen also incredibly rely on synergy. I like to do my part. And of course. We -love- to get into the thickist of things, I also have a slight sadistic streak and do not believe their is such a word as overkill.

Why I play WHFB? I like Warhammer, and much prefer what it offers as opposed to 40k. I can also get behind combat with board and sword a lot easier then with bolters and power armor.

In the case of my Haradrim, I love Tolkien's fantasy setting. When I saw Fellowship of the Ring as a young lad, I was hooked, I had to get the books and when I saw little plastic LOTR men, I nearly shat a brick. Pellonor fields is still my favorite battle scene in cinema. And why not be part of it as the men who hate Gondor so much, they signed up for damnation just out of spite, and for a shot at bringing their ancestral foe to their knees.

Mercs? Well I just -had- to play Warmachine. It's gotten so bloody popular.

I've sold so many armies. :(
