I was hanging out with some friends the other day, and we began to talk about the worst injuries we've had in the hobby. We are all still noobs and probably don't have as many battle scars as you old Veterans. But I won the contest because when I was cutting out the bits for a dread I left my hobby knife precariously near the edge of my desk and it fell. It had landed vertically right in my thigh. needless to saw my initial reaction as like this and then this and the god news was I didn't die, the Emperor protects.

We are winged salvation, but we are a terrible, final salvation, and our wings embrace the horizon with fire. We are the Blood Angels. To confront us is to die, and death is my remit, my reality, my unbounded domain. I have known death, and defeated it, claimed it as my own. To my cost, to my strength, death is my one gift to bestow, and I am nothing if not generous.

I've been modelling for a while and haven't even nicked myself once. It's not hard to learn the safe/proper ways to handle a hobby knife.

Mine rolled off my desk and ker-thunked! into the top of my foot, to the ferrule (so about an inch). It was an x-acto #1 handle and #11 (pointy) blade.
A bit of blood, missed anything vital, band-aid and it healed fine in about a week. Scar isn't even visible anymore.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Luckily super glue doesnt hold well on that.

Too many to count, over a quarter century.

Most WTF one was getting a snapped off craft knife blade in that spot in the middle of your back that you just can't reach, after pressing way too hard cutting some plastic.

Still not sure how i got it there, and it was really embarrassing having to get my girlfried at the time to pull it out, given that she already thought i was a klutz (and i was)...

This is why you do not headdesk where you are supergluing! Silly pony!

My worst was quite recent. I was building my newly purchased Carmine Dragon (great model) and got careless with the craft knife, cutting towards my thumb. I'm sure you can see where this is all going. The blade (which I had just put in as the old one was blunt) slipped out of the resin and sliced into my thumb from the tip to about halfway to the second joint, pretty much to the bone. Grabbed some tissues and applied pressure then downstairs to get a proper bandage then off to casualty I went to get it taped shut

Fun times.

I got up once from my hobby desk in a big hurry and immediately tripped on something. I'd forgotten the needle file resting in my lap and as I got up it hit the floor right as I was stepping forward. I happened to step on the point with my bare foot. I found the broken file, but didn't think it was in me and I was running late for work. The pain continued throughout the day and I realized that is was possible it might be still in my foot. Sure enough, when I got home I placed a powerful magnet against the ball of my foot - it stuck!

After vainly trying to remove the piece I went to the emergency room. The doctor worked up quite a sweat removing the 1/2" tip of file from my foot. I still feel some numbness in my middle toe.

Cats. CATS!!!! My cats like to frequently chase each other around the house. One time one cat jumped up onto my hobby table, while I was using an Xacto knife to shave down a Finecast mini. The cat bumped my hand AS I was cutting, and I wound up cutting into my thumb about 1/2" from the tip. That day sucked I tell ya, but not near as much as my cat stepping on the power strip while in the middle of a defrag. Now I have anti-cat™ measures.

When I first started hobbying many years ago I was working on trying to cut a space marine arm in half.

Well I was not so smart and had my fingers on the opposite side of the arm. The knife shot out the side and right across my index finger.

Needless to say waking up mom at midnight when your supposed to be asleep is not a goo idea so tape and paper towels were my solution.

Should of gotten stitches...

My worst was I was gluing a buddy's Drop-pod together and had Zap-a-gap drip on my fingers while holding the joint together. I sprayed some Kick starter(super glue accelerant) on the Drop-pod and the overspray hit the glue on my fingers.

That was the most pain I had been in for a while.

I don't know if the super glue would of worked with the amount of blood flowing from my finger. I will have to remember that next time though...

My wife was trying to help me build an anvil of doom, cutting out bits of polystyrene. She is rather less risk-averse than I am, and had had some wine, so had no tray on her lap.

Knife slipped. Stuck in right thigh. Bled a lot - I can still recall the wound falling open.

Decided against A&E. Used a plaster at her insistence. She now has a cool (?) scar.

My worst injury is fingertip damage from overzealous use of superglue.

This didn't happen to me... But I heard a story about a guy who... Well, he... He accidentally superglued a guardsman torso... To his nether regions.
I can understand if you won't believe it, since it's a rather odd story. But... He took a picture of it. I'm not sure I'm allowed to link to it, so I'll refrain from it for now. You could find it if you search though, the story with picture is located in /tg/s archive.

Either way, just thought I'd mention the story here, since I find it rather amusing.

Cutting out a genestealer and when i got through the plastic the blade kept going and lopped off 1/2 my fingernail and about 1/8 an inch underneath that. But the worst has yet to come. My grandma's friend Judy wrapped it up in gauss, and later that night when my mom went to re-do my bandage, it didn't come off, we soaked it in water to little avail, so she had to rip it off my bloody stub and it started bleeding all over again, painful stuff.

The funny thing is, I have none. I've had minor cuts from my exacto knife when I cut towards my thumb, but other than six or so very minor cuts, I've got nothing. Ask me about throwing a 12" Shuriken, and I'll tell you I damn near cut my finger off.

I cut my left pinky down to the bone with a fresh blade while trying to hollow out a hole on a 40mm base for a Kroxigor. All I got for it was a band aid...

I also had a large gob of superglue on my hand, so I figured I'd zip kick it so I could peel it off faster. Turns out that Zip kicker+ super glue= intense heat. Burnt the gak out of my hand.

I accidently stabbed myself in the wrist with a pair of scissors when I was building a model tank. Luckily, I didn't die but for a while a lot of people thought I was suicidal and/or emo.

None of my scars are from hobby related accidents.

"I cut myself with a 1 inch hobby blade" is a sentence that is unworthy of a man’s utterance. Should it be true however, I suggest downing oneself in a birdbath as a means of cleansing the dishonor done to one’s ancestors.

I'd expect nothing less from a man with such an obviously hairy chest and wide work bearing shoulders, honor demands that the steel be wetted in blood whenever drawn. Very commendable of you to use your own blood and not that of some stray child.

I was packing up Space Marine stuff i sold on ebay a few days ago, and as i was cutting the tape with sissors the (rather long) blades closed on my finger and cut a nice straight line through the flesh. Hurt like hell.

I started modelling about 20 years ago and I have never done myself a serious injury. A few nicks and grazes, but never stabbed or cut myself particularly badly and have drawn very little blood. I'm fortunate enough to say I've had worse paper cuts.

A buddy of mine cut himself with a wire cutter when he was building some terrain a few years ago. Had a fairly sizeable cut on the inside of his hand between the thumb and index finger. He'd broken his leg earlier that week, so it wasn't a good month for him. So far I've not had anything remarkable. A few cases of land raider hand, but that's it.

What did that? It looks too wide to be a hobby knife cut.
