Did Mitt Romney's Wawa remark backfire on MSNBC?
WASHINGTON -- At a recent campaign stop in Pennsylvania, Mitt Romney expressed amazement at a gas station's touch-screen sandwich-making process.
"I went to a place called Wawa's today, you ever been there? ... You press a little touchtone keypad, you touch this, touch this, go pay the cashier, there's your sandwich. It’s amazing,” Romney said.
Was it a gaffe -- "maybe Mitt Romney’s supermarket scanner moment" – as MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell described it Monday on "The Daily Fix"? Mitchell was referring to President George H.W. Bush's 1992 declaration that he was "amazed" by a supermarket scanner.
Or was MSNBC not being fair to the presumed Republican presidential nominee when it ran only part of his quote?
Romney had gone on to say: "It's amazing -- people in the private sector learn how to compete. It's time to bring some competition to the federal government and to get it smaller and get it to respond to the customers -- which are you."
That part of the quote was edited out during Mitchell’s presentation on "The Daily Fix."
Similar to Bush (who said he was referring to the scanner's ability to weigh items and decipher torn bar codes), Romney faced a slew of criticism following the remark, with Wawa even trending on Twitter immediately afterward. But his supporters were equally quick to defend him.
Mitchell did play the entire clip during Tuesday's edition of her show, but did not apologize for omitting Romney's fuller remarks during the earlier broadcast.
"The RNC and the campaign both reached out to us saying that Romney had more to say about that visit -- about federal bureaucracy and innovation in the private sector," she said before the clip aired.
MSNBC issued a statement stating that it "did not edit anything out of order or out of sequence and at no time did we intend to deceive our viewers."
An NBC producer was fired earlier this year for editing audio of George Zimmerman's 911 call in the controversial shooting case to make it seem as though Zimmerman had targeted Trayvon Martin for racial purposes, when the 911 dispatcher had actually asked Zimmerman whether Martin was "black, white or Hispanic."
Romney’s full remarks can be seen below.

A blatantly partisan news agency being unfair?
Stop the presses!
Romney had gone on to say: "It's amazing -- people in the private sector learn how to compete. It's time to bring some competition to the federal government and to get it smaller and get it to respond to the customers -- which are you."
That's what MSNBC should have attacked if they wanted to do a hack job.

This is ridiculous. Talk about a non-apology from MSNBC with their "[we] did not edit anything out of order or out of sequence and at no time did we intend to deceive our viewers" statement.
You don't have to edit things out of order or out of sequence to deceive your viewers. And I'm sure they didn't do it with the express intention of deceiving their viewers, they just did it with the intention of creating a controversial soundbite that would bring in more viewers. Whether or not the audience is deceived isn't really a primary consideration when measured against ad revenue.

You obviously do not live near a Wawa. They are by far the cleanest/most organized convenience store I've ever been to. PA's Sheets, AM/ PMs, 7'11s, are all terrible in comparison. Maybe 15% of the Wawas in South Jersey have gas stations. Its not like a Hess or a Sheets... whicha re horrifying and dirty places.
