So with the release of 6th Edition we now will have some interesting new rules for using a detachment of another army for our battles (except my poor forever alone 'nids).

Of course the possibilities of nice themed forces is fantastic, so what sort of forces has this inspired you to build?

Personally I plan on starting a small Nurgle CSM army with some IG allies to model as some sort of awful zombie type messes. Using lots of FW bits for the CSM and Zombies and renegade guard. Lovely

And CSM+Daemons of course.

Has it been confirmed if Allies are optional, or can you always use them?

Chaos is back, so Daemons and Traitor Guard are huge.

Some Space Marine + IG action is definite as well.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Might possibly convert up some alien auxiliaries for my tau using profiles from other codexes , and an earth caste engineer with worker drones (techpriest and buddies)

Also I may be tempted to convert up some eldar corsairs

I plan to run Black Templars with Steel Legion auxilliaries. Probably going to get FW models of DKoK to use as counts-as, they're mroe available and I like the models better.

Also, Daemons with CSM and renegade IG of course. Having troops on the field turn 1 with no deep striking problems will be wonderful! And having access to some decent firepower for a change without going all-Tzeentch.

My Ravenwing will have SM allies, just so I can use the storm talon.

List will pretty much be RW bikes and Landspeeders, a cheap SM hq, scouts, and Storm talon

(I am going to do my own conversion on the storm talon so it looks like a helicopter that can actually fly, as compared to the pile of crap that it currently is)

Interestingly enough it seems Black Templars will not be able to take IG as their allies. Since they are not a Codex Astartes Chapter this does make sense, as they would only ever assist IG and not have IG assist them. This is why IG can take BT, but not the other way around.

SM+GK.

Tactical Marines represented by Sisters Of Battle models, elite Space Marines will be Sternguard, GK Allies led by Inquisitor with Acolyte retinue, Strike Squad or possibly Termis modeled to look like a Deathwatch-esque unit. Trying to throwback to the old Witch/Daemon Hunter armies of a mish-mash of Marines, Stormtroopers, Sisters and Inquisitors.

Kinda surprised there are any one way alliances. Like having an SM detachment helping the IG would make sense. but having a company of guardsmen assisting a company of SM, makes far less sense.

What are you talking about? This chart shows Black Templar taking IG as Battle Brothers and IG taking Black Templars as Battle Brothers. Not sure what difference you are seeing...

Thats what I thought, the chart I've seen has BT being able to ally both ways with IG.

If not, then I will run an IG list with BT support. With 1 HQ, 2 Troop, 1 Elite, 1 Fast and 1 Heavy, thats still a lot of potential firepower from the marines (ex. Marshal with Terminator retinue in LRC, 8x LC/THSS Terminators in LRC, 20x Initiates with 12x Acolytes in LRC's, and a LRC for heavy just for kicks )

Certainly plan on converting a gue'vesa force, have wanted one for a time now.

Other than that, I'm thinking Orks fitted with Vespide-esque mind control helmets. Orks fit for a silly theme like that.

For tournaments, will be painting up some Tau-alligned Eldar for the free psychic powers. Fortune everywhere, and overwatch at standard BS? Yes please!

The two ideas I had before the chart was resurrecting my Sister of Sanguinius army, or creating a DE/Demon Crone World army. Neither is the brothers in arms level, which seems more fun. I may hold off on taking any allies.

I plan to use CSM and Deamons with a list that looks something like this:

3 raiders with 30 zerkers including kharn and the rest is filled with khorne deamons for a horde army like 40 bloodletters and skarbrand....

on the other hand Nobz they decided it was in the best interest of ork society that they "Go Green" as such they specifically modified their warbikes to not make giant smoke, dust, grit, clouds. Instead they are all about driving with clean air, one might say their bikes Gak out rainbows.

I'm def going to run BT with guard aux, maybe catachan. Although i really would like to run BT/DA. Also, forgive my ignorance but are allies limited to just a allied HQ and and allied troop choice or free run of the allied codex?

I like the sound of the Eldar corsair force, I might try that. I will be mixing my BA and IG a lot, and I might run penal legion with my Tau for a Human Auxillery force.

Durban-South Africa. Like schwow man!

First off I would like to not only have rulebook handy , but the promised FAQ's to clarify certain things .

My first army I've come up with , and is sure to cause some mouth foaming , is simply shoehorning Eldrad + Jetbikes ( possibly some Pathfinders for that hot and heavy AP1 crispy shot action on a 6 ) into my Tau army . This however is reliant on the FAQ's , namely can Fortune and Guide now work on non Eldar dudesmen . As an added bonus , for the first time since 2008 , 20 Firewarriors now constitute my Troops choices ! Felt weird doing that to my 5th ed Kroot mainstays . Still probably not going to rock the 40K world , but it will sure as hell get some respect back for the Space Cows at my local club .

Not sure what my plan will be for my other armies ( Thousand Sons and Krieg Panzergrenadiers ) , but my Sons will get some proper deamonic support , not that wishy washy generic rubbish I put up with the last few years .

As for GW's cunning plan to get me to buy new stuff , well , those sexy , sexy Dark Eldar are calling out my wallets name , ready to join their kin in pimpslapping some human scum .

Wow, some weird charts there. O_o Awesome, but weird...

DEFINITELY going to be adding some Inquisitor toys to my Space Marines.

But what's getting me the most is the Ork toys I have now! Deathwing Termies, Railguns. Legitimate Anti-Tank! Oooh, now I'm wondering if I can get Drop Pods for my Deff Dreads! Here's to hoping!

With power weapons being AP3, I'm tempted to make a "best of the Imperium" list combining Blood Angels and Space Wolves.

Dante + 2 units of Sanguinary Guard as the parent list, along with a terminator Librarian leading a squad of TH&SS terminators. Then the ally can be two units of Grey Hunters with plasma (10 super-marines with 2 plasma guns for 160 points? sold!) and some Longfangs with a Cyclone Wolf Guard. The Wolves HQ can either be a cheap Rune Priest, or perhaps a close combat monster on a Thunderwolf leading some thunderwolf cavalry.

So you have two extremely powerful melee units, two very resilient units of jump infantry that can deep strike with precision and hold objectives, and the best basic troop and heavy support units in the game holding down my side of the table (maybe in a bastion or behind an aegis line with some AA guns).

And still that leaves me with 2 Elite, 3 Fast Attack, and 3 Heavy Support slots open.

Fluff for the Fluff God!

I think the most popular allies will be C:SM+ other SM codex.

Now all SM armies have access to Stormravens.
