I fully expect there to be limitations to this rule. I'm not sure how they'll limit it, maybe only being allowed to implement an 8th of your points into an ally slot, or not allowing certain slots under specific conditions or just in general. Either way if it truly bothers you then whether it's specifically written optional or not all you've gotta do is talk to your opponent about it. I don't see this being something that should really be a big deal either way.

I'm looking forward to seeing Ork armies with 'looted' allies, so although rules of other books are used, everything being used, is ork equivilents, I sense many grots being forcable hooked up into rewired Marine suits.

As to my own.

Going to add a Space Wolf detachment to my Imperial Guard.
Add a third faction to my Ork army, which will by Blood Axe Orks, with a Lord Commissar advisor, and Veteran force, guiding the Orks in Imperial understanding. (In other words, attack these targets for us Warboss.)

Other than that if I ever went back to CSM, Traitor Guard and Daemons are a given.

Eldar assault troops in Dark Eldar assault boats!
We can eventually get out and charge, now that we have access to an ally's vehicles.

Will have to see how Webway Portals work....

I might have to get a Razorwing and GS some of that darkness off it. Less blades and more runes.

Doesn't really fit the fluff as the daemons would probably eat the eldars souls.

But using Dark Eldars and Daemons counting as a Slaneesh cult could be cool. Very cool.

Chaos Eldar could be interesting, a throwback to old fluff (well not sure if its old, or still floating around.)
So Eldar so desperate to avoid Slaanesh they have fallen to one of the other three powers.

Khornate Wyches sounds fun.

Oh i am definitely making killa kans with railguns now!!
Supported by some pulse rifle gretchin and a Mad doc in a hoverskiff.

So yes, orks and just about everything they can work with without penalty (Its gonna be fun to back up my boy horde with a squadron of russes! Oh and a sentinel unit).

As a tournament operator in my country im not going to fall into the pit of allowing allies rules on every tournament. Though itll be in play every now and then.

It does make a great opportunity for grot count as guard allies and looted vehicles. It would be nice to use grots in an ork army where they are actually good for something other than sitting 30 guys on an objective.

I was going to use bloodangels as an ally to use the stormraven finally but it seems that my vanilla marines wouldn't be able to embark in it because of the Allie rules

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

Outside of the obvious ones I was already planning (Eldar "Pirates" supporting my Craftworld force, codex Marines supporting my =I= army) I've been trying to think of really interesting counts-as options to fit within my few armies that would present fun modeling ideas.

The one that I think I'm going to go for is to use the Tau list as allies (with my Eldar) to create a few special versions of existing Eldar units. For instance:

HQ: Wraithlord of either a Swooping Hawk or Warp Spider
--Tau Commander Battlesuit, using weapons in the Tau list that have close analogues in the Eldar list (Fusion Blaster, Plasma Rifle, or Flamer) plus wargear to assist it matching the flavor of the Wraithlord.

TROOPS: Guardians with Heavy Shuriken Catapult
--Fire Warriors

I really wish that the Sky Ray had actually been given Skyfire, given that it is described as a freaking Air Defense Missile System, because converting up a Falcon into the equivalent would have been awesome.
