With the new leaks of the daemon update, Soul Grinders are indeed allowed into fantasy.

So beyond the rules, do you think they belong in fantasy? Or does the base model itself look too detached and might require a more suitable substitute too look right?

I think the model idles not fit in fantasy at all. It is way too technological for demons. It works for 40k but not for fantasy.

The Warp works in strange ways and I think it is Daemonic enough that it would fit in Fantasy. Attribute it to Chaos Dwarves and captured Empire technology and you have an explanation.

It's not enough for me. There's no way engineers of the empire and chaos dwarves could build anything this complex in fantasy. We're talking about a walker here with multiple moving parts. I have no issue with the demon ontop. Even the sword. I have issue with the claw and legs. It needs to be ALOT more bionic to fit in.

I think it if far to futuristic in it's design to make an easy transition.

Ideally it will have an upgrade sprue added that will make it more daemonic/fantasy tech than the large amount of 40k tech currently on the model.

Who cares that it's high tech? Back in the day, you could sometimes have Fantasy characters armed with bolters. The Albion magic items are all very clearly pieces of 40k equipment. There has always been a bit of "bleed-over" between Fantasy and 40k and I personally embrace it.

You know.....why do I get the feeling GW IS going back to the warhammer of old?

First we get Zoats and Fimir back, and now this?

Zoats are a race of....reptile centaurs?

They existed in both fantasy and 40k back in the early days, then GW forgot about them or something and they disappeared for years. But in Storm of Magic, zoats are officially back in fantasy

Where's the update/leak info?

Soul Grinders had a big combi gun on one arm, which is the only thing that seems weird. I guess it could be a weak cannon. Their legs are very much like a bloodcrusher, which is an armored daemon. Chaos Dwarfs have Daemons fused into war machines. Their choochoo train is pretty steampunk. The Hellcannon is a daemon/monster/war machine that can move on its own and gobble up people.

A steamtank is pretty high tech. Take out the boiler and put in a daemon. I think the SG was the only model that didn't crossover, so it's a cheap way for them to add another unit.

Watch the video. The guy flipping through gets to a massive 2 page army shot with the Soulgrinder on a rectangular base and then shows its profile page

Soul grinders are coming to fantasy! has T7 6 wounds and a load of upgrades for its shooting. looks pretty mental.

being that WHFB takes place in the WH40K vurse I would say yes this is allowed however if daemons get a bleed over I think Orks should get the 40K equal of Savage Orcs again =)

I think it looks fine... Mechanical creations are not completely absent from Fantasy, look at the empire stanks as well as the Chaos Dwarfs (HAIL TO HASHUT!!) are chock full of machination, the Ka'dai Destoyer is Half giant flaming bull half mechanical bull taurus. Roll with it I say.

I don't have a problem with it.

Indeed the times I saw it in a 40k game it looked weirdly out of place. It needs a base.

problem is in 40k you would have a hard time fitting it on a base, as its limbs dont count for targeting and games purpose, the base would only be as big as the torso base (about the size of a rhino footprint) and modeling the legs down to that close would be impossible I think.

I don't see anything on it that is too "futuristic" at all. It has mechanical legs? So does Empire stuff.

I think it will be fine in Fantesy.

Stick in on the big monster base.

It'll probably be a monster that also has a shooting attack. Probably can be fired as a Stonethrower(small blast) or a single shot(Str8 or something with multiple wounds)

Not a bad addition to the Daemon book IMO.

As one of the more slowed ideas being produced by gw. That being said, the aestetics of it still fits fantasy, while astetically I think the soulgrinder does not. The vents, the claw, the connector to the legs are still too futuristic. Not to mention the technology to connect something bionic to metal and have control over it... Yes there's the hell cannon. But there's a difference between a demon possessing a peice and a demons body being built upon.

I just don't think it astetically fits. I'm sure the rules are fine and I wouldn't mind playing against one. I just don't think the model itself belongs in fantasy

You realize, Stoupe, that nobody but demons builds soul grinders right? They don't have that connective stuff or bionics either.

Being devil's advocate, there's no real indication what level of "technology" daemons have or don't. They mention forging (armor/swords) numerous times. And they mention castles and structures, which at least denotes the concept of architecture even if they didn't use normal materials or processes.

So while they probably aren't sitting around with blueprints and arc welders creating soul grinders, they obviously create a whole lot of what looks like normal technology. From chains and braziers and axes and gardens and mirrors and summer homes.

Who is to say that daemons aren't technological geniuses? They don't bother cruising around on motorcycles simply because they can fly and gas is so expensive.

Daemons have whatever mortals can imagine. They're just a dark, twisted reflection of mortal subconsciousness.

Change and change until Change is our master, for nothing neither God nor mortal can hold that which has no form. Change is the constant that cannot be changed.

I think thats the point. Its hard to believe a mortal of the past can peer 40,000 into the future to manifest what they see....

It looks like something Michael Angelo can conjure up, so it fits with the Renascence look.
If Michael designs a F21 raptor, it would be far fetched too....

Pretty much what I was thinking. Add some pistons between the joins in the legs and go for the steampunk look. I think it'll fit WHFB much better then.
