Hey all,
Trying to track down the best, most cost effective Duelist, but I only have experience with Eldar/DE/SW. The best I can come up with is;
Archon
---Husk Blade
---Shadowfield
---Combat Drugs
For a total of 125 pts nets you 4(possibly 5 w/ drugs) base attacks with a "force" weapon at initiative 7, WS 7, and a 2+ Invulnerable Save. Only problem I see is death via. Psychics, but this is about dueling!
Thanks!

The Brood Lord has St 5 T5 I6 and four rending attacks for only 60pts. It also has the chance of getting crazy good powers with Biomancy.. A good roll with Iron arms turns them into T8 S8 monsters.

Brood Lords are some of the best ones for the points. Lysander is up there too, and Ghazghkull has been winning his fair share of challenges too; particularly when his 2++ from the Waaagh! is up.

I would say arjac Rockfist he gets three S10 attacks that in a challenge reroll raiiled to hit and to wound, and they all hit on 3+ he also has a 2+/3++ 2 wounds and immune to instant death, he's pretty nasty in a challenge.

Actually its 4 or 5 attacks for Arjac (depending on charge/countercharge) in the first round of combat.
I too think the Archon with Huskblade would be a very nasty dueler if only the huskblade was AP2. As its currently AP 3 your relying on the other guy failing his 2+ save.

Arjac doesn't have anything on Lysander.
In the SW codex Lone Wolf in Terminator armor, Storm shield and chainfist is a complete beast. T4, W2, eternal warrior, FnP and Preferred enemy against T5 creatures and up. All for something like 85 Points. Throw in the rules that prefer him dead, so you aren't given any incentive to play him defensively, so it works well to send him out and stab stuff.

Strakken is T4, not T5. He's still not bad in a challenge, especially since his attacks ignore armor saves. Make one of his guys a medic to give him Feel No Pain and he isn't too shabby.

His Toughness is only fresh in my mind because someone who didn't know anything about Blood Angels challenged a wounded Lemartes with Strakken.. He wasn't expecting 7 S8 swings, rerolling misses and failed wounds.
While Strakken wins on cool points, I'm inclined to believe that Creed is better. For the Glory of Cadia gives out Furious Charge and Fearless to units within 24", rather than the Colonel's little bubble. Also Creed lets me Scout my Hellhound, or a Chimera full of plasma vets.

Incubi Klaivex are pretty amazing. 57 points with a demiklaive (cheaper then a Broodlord) for either 3(+1) WS6 S5 AP2 attacks or 5(+1) WS 6 S3 AP3 attacks, which can be buffed easily with FC, all at I6. Also both their powers can make them even deadlier in this regard.
A Lord with a SW/MSS/WS (75 points) is pretty damn strong as well.
Lelith and Drazhar are nightmares, though they probably lose points for cost effectiveness in many players assessment.

Actually reading a little in the 4th edition Eldar, by technical wording of Mirrorblades, Howling Banshee Exarch may win the day;
"Mirrorswords ignore armor saves."
All saves? Even invulnerable? Hmm....could be argued that way!
But, mediocre stats, 1 wound, 3+ save. Would have to win the first round with her 5 Attacks or she'll lose.
A thought anyways!

You are likely correct, Sir, I'm just curious because of similar wording with the Necron Warscythe, which could previously penetrate Invulnerable save. Looks like it's different in this edition.
Was a thought anyways. At least my Banshee Exarch can still force those Terminators to use their 5+!

Warscythe ignoring invulnerables was the old codex, I believe.
As for my vote... Do we count the cost needed to make the unit viable? Or just the unit upgrade itself? If not, I'll +1 Shadarlogoth's klaivex vote.

Someone who hasn't been brought up is Duke Sliscus. 150 points. ws6 bs6 s3 t3 w2 i6 a3 ld9 sv4+, but he has a shadowfield (2+ invul save), and he has a blast pistol (str 8 lance pistol). The best part is he lets you roll 2 dice for your combat drugs, and he has the serpents bite, which is his close combat attacks wound on 2+, but if he rolls a 5 or 6 he ignores armor. On the assault he has 5 attacks (possibly 6 based on combat drugs), and he makes a unit of warriors or trueborn's poison shots wound on a 3+ instead of 4+.

Lucius the Eternal.
His armor reduces you to 1 attack. Thats it. One swing. Make it count.
4 attacks base. 5 on the charge. Only major drawbacks are str 4 ap 3 power weapon.
But, for every successful armor or invul save he makes, he passes a wound back to you with no armor saves allowed. Automatically Appended Next Post: BronzeJon wrote:Vanilla SM captain on bike with arty armor, storm shield relic blade.

You're still hooked on a bygone age. Relic blades are only AP3. You are better off with a thunder hammer or powerfist these days (or power axe).

Anouther vote for the broodlord. Even without trading in for biomancy his normal Gaze power can make your model do nothing if you can't roll higher than me on a D6.
Also if kitting out for challanges:
ScyTal: Reroll 1's to hit
Toxin Sacs: More for the reroll than anything else. It gives you a better chance of getting a 6.
Implant Attack: Causes ID on all rolled 6 to wound.
So 5A (on the charge) with a bunch of rerolls and if I get a 6 and you don't have an Invuln or EW, your dead. Biomancy makes him better though.
Pt for pt the best duelest in the game.

I still really dig the lowly Nob with PK. All they need to do is survive the assault, and most likely whatever was challenging them, now is in ID land. And all that for 45points, 50 if you take Eavy Armor, although that is ignored what seems like always Im also REALLY liking a biker boss for challenges, seems like most things that are normal badasses, falter when they need 6s to wound the guy

huskblades dont ignore 2+ saves, as of FAQ vs 1.0, so archons are garbage as over half of the characters in this game have 2+ saves.

Lets look at what you need in an ideal world for a great Duelist.
1. High Int - Allows you to strike first and therefor a better chance to kill before being attacked.
2. An AP2 weapon or one that ignores armour saves.
3. Multi wounds, and prefer Eternal Warrior
4. 2+ save to stop Power Weapons, and at least a 4+ Inv
You can't get all of this, but you can get most.
My vote is Tycho. Good Int, attacks ignore armour saves, has 2+, 4++, and you can give him FNP, so the only thing you have to worry about is Fist and Hammers, and you will strike before them.
Second choice is Furious Dread with Blood Fist. AV13 means Hammers and Fist needs a 5 to glance if they are still around.
