I was told by the nice folks at Swap Shop that this might be equally appropriate in the news category.

3T-Studios is now rolling out the first of our resin-cast terrain pieces, starting with a line of urban barricades. These pieces are 100% original sculpts cast in premium urethane resin, and you can buy them painted!

I sculpted these barricades as lengths of crumbling, shot-up-to-all-hell jersey barriers, crates and drums, with piled up mounds of rubble and debris. Painted pieces are painted to the same standard as shown in the pictures, and are weathered, washed with MiG dust effects, and detailed with bits of blown litter and posters.

We also have unpainted available as well, for DIY'ers.

We also have a line of barriers on concrete slabs/sidewalks for a more urban feel, ideal for cityfight tables or flanking important urban structures.

We have four versions of these available as well, check our webpage or eBay store to see them all!

Of course we're also stead adding more and more to our resin accessories and bits line, with everything from our old favorites like the skull piles and crates,

To newer items like this set of buckets and water trough:

We have more coming all the time, including some pieces designed to work with WH40k 6th edition rules on fortifications, so stay tuned! I'd also be happy to listen to any feedback, ideas or answer any questions or just chat about terrain. We really, really love terrain. We'll talk all day about terrain and terrain accessories.

Very nice stuff. I've seen plenty of your commission stuff in the past and it is all excellent.

VERY nicely done sir. Not only is the quality and design fantastic, but kudos to your painter as well!

Edit: Just looked up the prices. The crates are a little pricey for their size, but the barriers prices are an ouch.

At last!!!!

I won't be using the barricades in-game, though. Just doesn't fit my board. Shame. I might want to purchase some bones and wooden crates in the future, though. Can you guys also do more sci-fi stuff?

The moment you make those barricades to the length of Aegis defense line pieces, you will have all my monies. Like, instantly

Good to see your thread in here, your products are certainly news-worthy!

Yep! Lots more on the way, the list of resin components and accessories I have to sculpt is a mile long, and I'm always looking for feedback on what people are most interested in seeing.

Aegis-ishy funtimes are coming up very soon! I'll be focusing on the popular races first, with maybe a generic armored/concrete set as well just as a non-imperial alternative until I can give each race some proper lovin'.

I'd actually be most interested in the generic concrete one (similar to what you have above, with a broken-down / embattled look) most of all, I think . So if that is first in the queue, so much the better!

I really like the various buildings. would love some of those in kit form.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

Good to hear, it's on our list for future projects, and of course the more feedback we get the higher it moves on the list

The new sidewalk-less versions are great.

I too think Aegis-size-compatible race-specific versions would sell well - a lot of players aren't happy using a standard Aegis with their eldar/necron/tyranid/etc armies.

Sci-fi/industrial crates would be nice, too. Infinity players needs loads and loads AND LOADS of terrain.

The thing I like most about them is their real world feel, like the loading bay with the ramp and stuff

http://www.3t-studios.com/wp-content/gallery/industrial/industrialdocks2.jpg

The hand rail, the pallet. all very well thought out. It can't all be basilicas and honoured imperium.

I like that the barriers come with built in rubble - generating good looking rubble is always a pain when making barricades

Nice stuff.

One untapped market that I think could be cornered would be if someone produced qulity raised areas to put buildings on with detailing like what you have done on your barrier pieces with the urban curbs.

Lots of people have, build or buy ruins and buildings but have no readily available source of basing.

If you could produce raised curb "city blocks" of various shapes and sizes (perhaps modular) with minor details like sewer grates and the detailing in line with what are on your barricade pieces I think they would sell.

cork tile. 1ft x 1ft. find it at home base.

I've never seen any cork tile with sewer gates and curb detailing at Home Depot...

Point being that I am talking about cast pieces that are ready to use out of the box and that have detailing (curb edges, sewer grates, etc.). Various shapes/sizes and modular would b an added bonus.

S6 used to have city grids with this kind of detailing - different sized building bases, roads, etc... sadly they are no longer trading.

Rather than selling pre-sized bases, it might be better to sell different lengths of "pavement", including corners and so on, so you can fashion your own building outlines... then maybe combine that with some smaller sections of "building floor" that again can be combined to form the inside floor of buildings in pretty much any shape. Kind of like the Hirst Arts floor tiles could be used, but larger blocks.

These are some great ideas about the urban bases guys, I agree that a good base really pulls together a building. I'll continue to flesh out the idea between other projects.

S6 must have been what I saw at one point, because I could have sworn someone was doing something like that and then when I went to look for it recently I couldnt find it and thought I was imagining it...

I agree with your idea to design it so that it allows the user to customize building outlines. I really think a product like this would sell well if it was designed with the idea of accomodating the various commercial building/ruin kits like GW, Pegasus, etc.

If I could pick you guy's brains a little, what do you think is the best way to make a resin-cast urban base that can be customized to different sizes? My first thought was a grid of sculpted slabs of concrete that can be "snapped" at the seams, but this might be difficult if the resin was thick/sturdy enough to serve as an alternative to an MDF or similar base, and it also creates the issue that some "edge" features would have to be eliminated or redesigned. So instead of a storm drain on a curb, it would have to have features like flat grates on some of the slabs of concrete, etc.

a cork tile makes for an excellent BASE, as seen here http://i.imgur.com/OgOv0.jpg for these various imperial buildings.

Your missing the point. I have based hundreds of terrain pieces in my day on all manner of materials including cork. Knowledge of wht to use and how to do it if one wanted a DIY project isnt in question.

What we are discussing here is the design of a sculpted resin alternative that is ready to use out of the package.

I like building stuff as much as anyone, but I also like to buy/use nifty products if they are designed well and affordable. I also know lots of people that don't have the time/skill/desire for DIY, but would buy an urban terrain basing system to put their commercial ruin/buliding kits on if one was available and affordable. I would bet it would be a pretty lucritive market if someone released a quality product.

That is what we are discussing.

3-T makes some great terrain, and I brought it up in this thread because if anyone could come up with a cool concept for such a product I bet they can.

However I don't want to derail this thread any longer, so lets get back to what the OP wants to discuss.

What would you consider an affordable price range for a building base like we're talking about? say it's for a 8" x 8" square piece as an example.
