Subject: Land Raider Ares(Typhon) Conversion w/ Big Momma Cannon

So, I got a lot of feedback on my Big Momma Cannon that the cannon was just too big for the Rhino chassis. The_Chaplain (on B&C board) mentioned he wondered what it would look like on a Land Raider as an Ares pattern Land Raider.
So I ordered a 3rd 'Big Momma Cannon' kit. And this kit came in a cream colored resin and is a better cast overall. Too bad I kind of hacked it up with my amateur sawing skills.
Here you can see I cut down the main piece quite a bit to just these two pieces.
So this is a ruff dry fit without the resin hatch part.
This is with the resin hatch part.
Which do you think would look better? I am also frustrated that either way there is only one hatch on top. So I am thinking of getting more creative to try and keep two hatches.

That big momma gun is awesome, nice marines too. I had always wanted to buy that thing but I really had no idea what to use it for, but a land raider seems like a perfect fit.

I got a nice cut on my thumb getting rid of the closed hatch area.
A mock up to see how it looked.
I was very happy to see that the vent piece I had clipped off, fit perfectly next to the turbines on the bit of plasticard.
I am still trying to figure out how to properly fill the space between the back of the cannon and hatch/vent area. I think I'm going to have to build a plasticard box of some sort. Or maybe an angled piece...

Looking forward to seeing this, I finally got mine through the post today, the first one they sent must have been lost in the post but very impressed with this one so far, as you say the casting is pretty good, think i have to order another one which is poo considering how long this one took to get here!

Ok, I was running into concerns with the cannon placement as shown above. The cannon was very high relative to the dozer blade, and that gap behind the gun was really proving difficult to fill with my amateur plasticard skills. Not to mention (the biggest reason for changing the layout) is that there would be no where for a twin-linked assault cannon.
So let me know how you feel about the below layout:

So I have magnetized and glued the mount for the recoil blades. I really like those pieces. I may end up getting them for my Vindicators as well.
You can see how long this thing is going to be and get an idea of what it would look like with my spaced armor and without. I really want to pull off the spaced armor look. I will order more rivets tonight.
Any advice or cc welcome on how to make the armor look good. I really think this tank needs some kind of extra armor and this seemed the easiest route. But If i can't pull it off well i'll go without.

So here is what the side armor will look like (minus rivets). I've got rivets on order and they will go all around the bracing strips. I'll leave the open space near the top for some possible free-hand painting.

Well, two reasons:
1. This project started before the HH book came out.
2. I don't own the HH book (therefore I don't know the Typhon rules).
However, I can see how this would look more like a Typhon now. It could easily be fielded as either if you could change the sponsons. For this project, I just decided to glue the sponsons. So for me it will remain an Ares. Unless I obtain the Typhon rules and you can put flamer sponsons on it lol.

I honestly am not happy with how this is turning out. I think I ruined my beautiful siege shield with a crap job on the 'chipped' paint effect. And my attempt at using badab black wash on the yellow parts was a total fail. I hate myself.
