Inspired by Nedius' legendary Stealerfex, I decided to do a version but keep to the newer Genestealer style. Here's how the first night's chopping and sculpting went...
I've moved the back plates, filled the carapace, repositioned the waist for an elongated running style, made the head more bulbous and added the Stealer 'ears' and veins. Lots to do (back spines are bodged on and need blending in, etc.) but chuffed with the head in particular. The limbs will be as close to upscaled Stealer limbs as I can make them, and legs will be running.

I like this a lot.
Personally I'd shorten the spore chimneys for a sleeker faster look. And maybe some sort of thickened 'collar' on the carapace just behind the neck, to visually break up that large plain carapace plate a little?
Good luck converting the legs - the monopose legs are my least favourite part of the standard model.

Finished the feet and did the other side of the back ridges last night, as well as made a start on the claw hand. Wow, that's tougher than I anticipated, but getting there!

It is a wee bit cartoony! It's smaller than the triple-crushing-claw that was the inspiration, but not perfect. I can live with it though!

DijnsK - that is the 99% cleaned up version! I'm rather pushing my GS skills, any tips on how I could smooth it out better/more easily? I'm considering getting something like Milliput to go over it? What do you think? I may just apply layers of paint to iron out irregularities... :-(

Pick up Colour Shapers (sometimes also called clay shapers). latex rubber tools that don't stick to GS and make sculpting infinitely easier They let you polish the GS surface (especially with some vaseline or similar lubricant) to iron out things like fingerprints and other imperfections. Also this is really good work, you should be really pleased!

I'd just get the firm ones. But i agree, i absolutely swear by them, not just for smoothing out but for the entire process. They turn an average sculptor into an above average sculptor instantly, they are that good.  And you are well above average anyway!

Casey/Flinty, thank you SO much for the Colour Shapers suggestion. They are AMAZING.
I am now the proud owner of a set of Size 0 firm (grey tip) shapers, and a couple of extra firm Size 0 (black tip, cone and angle chisel). I've been trialling them on another project, which is converting 20 ancient monopose Advanced Space Crusade Scouts into two usable, varied-pose units for my Marine force. I'm loving the fact the Colour Shapers don't stick to the GS. The 'feel' takes a bit of getting used to, but cloth especially is easier to do, as you can gently push folds into the GS. I'll post up results soon as I'm very happy with them.
So yeah, back to the big Stealer very soon, with new ability to make things smooth - exciting!
