Looks like hours are being cut at this college for 400 employees to avoid Obamacare with a statement saying other colleges are expected to follow suit:

We have unions, we need socialized healthcare.

Plus the first time I read that I saw:

And also I hear they ration healthcare in Canada.

Unicorns would definitely be a better way to go. But in their absence, unions will have to do.

The sad thing is that a lot of people actually believe that we are very environmentally friendly...

Just given' the reaction to Obamacare from different segments as they roll in, bro. This is the truth of how people are being affected by it. Sorry that the Utopian paradise half the people thought could be legislated in didn't materialize.

Solution: fund education properly so that schools aren't constantly in a budget crisis and forced to cut expenses anywhere (except football, of course) they can just to survive.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Putting it bluntly?

The majority of the "people being affected by it" would have been affected the same way if "Obamacare" had not been rolled out as well.

A college in a budget crisis isn't magically in it as soon as something was going to be put into effect. It's been in that crisis before, likely due to financial mismanagement on the part of the institution and lack of bonds raised locally.

Honestly, everyone has to get their oil from somewhere, I'd rather we have all the oilwork done here in Canada. It's good for the economy, and at least it's not financing an oil war in the middle-east. The Harper government is doing a terrible job of handling it, but with the proper care, it's better than the alternatives.

Yeah, we should refine our oil at home before sending it off to other places.

Well my comment didn't specifically aim at the oil rigs. Frakking is pretty intense, but I doubt it'll have the same environmental impact as the massive woodcuts in northern Quebec.

Hydro also has a massive impact, but limited in time.

The thing is, we often have the impression that we are a rather green country (I certainly know Quebecers often delude themselves in thinking they are greener then the RoC), and it's completely false.

Well, first off, that's not how Obamacare works.

Obamacare forces you to either purchase private health insurance, or else pay a fine. But it also precludes private insurance companies from denying coverage, and legislates them to spend at least 80% of their income on paying out to claims.

It's a step in the right direction, in a general sense. But it is NOT universal healthcare like you & I experience.

How is forcing people to buy insurance, or taxing them if they don't, thereby removing personal choice on the matter, a step in the right direction?

When did a person making a decision on what they wanted to spend their money on become wrong?

Because it will give people a sense of what it is like to always have health insurance. It'll give them a taste. And then you'll never, ever be able to take health insurance away from them without a fight. it effectively creates a ratchet effect; the only direction you can move from this point is further towards *real* universal health care.

However, I have already compared Obamacare as a step in the right direction akin to a dog dragging its ass on the carpet as a step towards greyhound racing.

djones520 wrote:When did a person making a decision on what they wanted to spend their money on become wrong?

When that person, and those they were responsible for, consistently suffered as a result of making the wrong choice. But that's antagonistic, so I will also respond with this:

Do you pay taxes?

Thank you for pointing out what has been said by conservatives, but denied by Obama, that Obamacare is a tax. It is the single biggest tax increase in U.S. History.

Yup... this. Kudos.

It's NOT "free" healthcare.

Even your healthcare isn't free (ya'll pay taxes that are earmarked).

What you probably meant to say was no out of pocket healthcare (except, I believe ya'll still pay out of pockets for meds... rigth?)

It's a big TEASE.

Even some of the poor are complaining 'cuz they don't really know what to do... it's a poorly crafted legislation.

Rip it out and start over.

The Amish?

I could be wrong... I believe they're exempt.

EDIT... yup, they're exempt:
the Amish are exempt because they rely on a community ethic that prohibits government intervention. Their communities pay for the costs of their health care.

Still trying to find the actual clause...
