For my tiny DA force, I currently use a Hammerhead box. Temporarily. They are maily the Dark Vengeance models and so are very robust.

Battlefoam. I've got Tyranids - huge awkward models covered in fragile spikes, small awkward models coverent in fragile spikes, medium sized awkward models covered in fragile spikes... Also Vampire Counts, with lots and lots and lots of small, fragile models (Skeletons) and again, large, awkward models covered in fragile spikes.

Battlefoam have the only laser cut trays that work well for them, and the harder foam works better with the spikes than soft foam that hugs models and gets caught on sharp areas.

Also, they make the only case than can fit my whole Tyranid army in it - the 1520XL.

I use the large army battle case for my infantry, but end up hauling around a shoebox full of termies/drop pods/my few vehicles...

Thinking of switching to battlefoam in the new year, just terrified of dropping that darn shoebox

A few different types of things.

The lucky models get a spot in either a KR or GW case. I have about 9 KR cardboard cases - figured I didn't need a proper carrying bag or case since the models never leave the house except to get primed in the driveway - 3 GW standard size cases, 1 GW double case - one of those "exclusive" ones that they make available in a new color every winter with half-pick-and-pluck and half infantry stuff - and 1 case that my brother gave me that has the Imperial Eagle embroidered on the front of its soft, fabric bag with removable hard plastic inserts.

The unlucky models get stood up in a tray after being selected for a game or transport. I use the word tray liberally; really it's just either the lid or the box from a large GW item like a tank or battleforce or starter set.

The poor, bastard child models pray for death as they get heaped up in a cardboard box with a lid on it.

Oh, I forgot the VERY lucky models. They get carried around in my hands whenever they move. Namely these are either the delicate ones, or the ones that would inspire immense feelings of rage and sorrow if they were dropped. Valkia from WHFB is the former - how the hell does GW expect her to fit in a case? - and my Penitent Engines and Exorcist are the latter (the rage and sorrow... well, one comes from seeing the model shattered all over the floor, and the other comes from thinking about the massive pain in the butt that the Penitent Engines were to actually put together, then knowing I'd have to do it again. I'm not sure which emotion comes from which thing, to be honest.)

This is quite common. I have a friend who used to put layers of that foam in carboard boxes to transport his armies back in 3rd edition.

Now? He plonks all of his nicely painted stuff unprotected in a big plastic container together. Sometimes I want to smack him in the head.

I'd hate to try and fit my Tyranids in those. I wouldn't even get my 1850pt army in two.

They hold about 100 infantry (25mm) or 65 Infantry (40mm) Each case. They have a lot of space, considering their Size: 16.75"L x 6"W x 14.5"H

They will hold a 1850 Tyranid army in 2-3 of those.

and all for way less than sabol or battlefoam charges.

I use a cookie sheet and an old mini case I got for battletech minis. The cookie sheet will hold almost 3k points of Nids and the mini case holds all the spawn gants. (24 spots x 4 trays)

Everything has a magnet in its base so doesn't even wobble on the cookie sheet.
