I've been looking at Infinity for a while and after I finally got the rulebook I'm making my jump into the game.
I want to shift gears on my website and start offering infantry scaled stuff as well as hi-tech and futuristic terrain. I know there's some laser cut terrain out there but is it preferable to resin built stuff?
I had some thoughts about mixing laser cut and resin, is that something that'd be of interest?
Also what of items do you guys want to see for smaller pices? dumpsters, trash cans, benches, road barriers?
Here's a rough WIP of an item I've been considering having printed.

This looks good, and the generic stuff you mentioned would indeed make a nice addition to many gameboards.

I am not a fan of lasercut terrain. Resin terrain is great, but usually too expensive. A good compromise would be to create resin bits that can be added to home built terrain, so it no longer looks like milk cartons, etc. Things like doors, com units, and vents would be great.

I don't mind the laser cut stuff, but I do prefer resin.
So, having said that, I eagerly await your generic SF Infinity terrain!

I would like to see some combos of casting AND laser cut done. Just some little bit of Resin pieces to enhance a laser cut item.

Great to hear that you are going to be trying Infinity stuff!
Cheap battlefield accessories I can imagine being very popular, and I think more generally the Infinity community has really embraced terrain building (there are some absolutely stunning efforts out there - perhaps in part because the game ruleset encourages it!) so I'm sure you will have a keen audience.
A lot of things have already been done, but at the same time there are many, many ideas that have not (or else are too hard to buy).
As a side note it might even be worthwhile getting in touch with CB. They already teamed up with MAS and now that company sells semi-official stuff and is even advertised from time to time on the Infinity website - spoke to one of the games designers (Carlos) about it, and they seem to have a very inclusive and enthusiastic attitude towards anyone who wants to help create a better gaming environment. For instance, he hoped that someone would be nutty enough (meant in the nicest of ways) to try and make the train from Paradiso

I'll definately look into that. Right now I started lurking on their modelling & terrain subforums. I haven't gotten throuh too much of the rulebook yet so the rest of the forum is a bit overwhelming as I know almost nothing about the setting or rules yet.
Based solely on the model design I'm leaning towards putting together a Pan Ociania force as I like the strong appleseed vibe they have. I really like the cutter and armored cavalry models.
Somewhere I have a pair of the Drone Bot Remotes I got a couple years ago when the game first came out. I'll need to do some digging to find them.
Also I've got a bunch of the Sedition Wars stuff on pre-order, some of those minis look like it'd be great material for use with Infinity as well.

There's a club over here that makes a combination of lasercut AND resin cast terrain bits (they tried making their fences/walls entirely lasercut - but the resin cast bases made them cheaper and more stable) so yes, lasercut AND resincast CAN work.
A more higher tech looking "jersey barrier" or its ilk would be nice - instead of plain boring concrete.

I'd be more interested in more 'scatter' type terrain bits. The Infinity market is very, very well served by MAS, Warmill and Sarissa right now for laser cut HDF, as well as large resin peices like walls and fences, but smaller scatter peices are harder to find. Things like ATMs, vending machines, billboards, etc. The buildings make a great base for a board, but with very little interesting extras. Something I'm sure people would love though is weapon packs, but that's a legal issue with Corvus Belli.

How essential are the expansion books to game play?
I still need to slog through the base book, but was curious how much of the other two books are actual rules vs fluff.
Also how do the older models compare to the newer stuff is there a noticable power creep?
I just fired off an order to MM for some figures, got one of each of the orc troops, cutter, & cav. I imagine I'll need another future order to round out with some basic troops but for now I'm focusing on cool looking models to paint.

The only book you actually need is Paradiso. The core rules and Human Sphere amendments are free on their website, and the printed books are now out of date due to further amendments (though having the printed book is always great to flip through, and they're the only source of fluff). The campaign rules and scenarios from Paradiso are only in the book. There is very, very little, if any, power creep. One of the boasts about infinity is that everything is useful - it's you, not your army list. Make an army out of the figs you love (as long as it's legal) and learn how to use it.

I'm going to look into some of the Plus events, they're about 40mins away. I saw the games at last years Adepticon which is what had me thinking about game really hard. if I can get my minis painted and ready for Adepticon I'd be interested in going to that as well especially as it's across town for me. I paint glacier-like slow so even though it's 3 months away that's lightning fast for me. Going to try though.

As has been said, ALL the rules and lists for HS and the 2nd ed book are available as downloads. The fluff hasn't been superceded - each book just adds an extra angle to things. The only "essential" book atm is Paradiso (a couple of units from the other books have changed profiles, but no model (apart from McMurrough's human form) has been rendered useless - and even then, you could use that model for another dogface.). No notable power creep. Older models/units still hold their own.

I'd like to see all kinds of scenery made by you including buildings. I like the look of the MAS stuff but it seems hard to get here in the states. I would really like to see some buildings based on the "Colony" from the new Total Recall movie. I don't have the time or the inclination to make the buildings myself but I can just imagine the setting being great for some Infinity games.

One of the first thoughts I had for terrain was stuff from the new Total Recall, very techy looking stuff and thought a lot of it would be perfect for Infinity. Also when Dredd comes out next month I'll be grabbing that for inspiration as well.
I sat down with a sketch pad earlier tonight and did some rough designs for a bunch of items which should fairly simple to model. I should hopefully have some rough renders to share shortly. It might sound weird but I'm going to take a walk around my local mall to see what type of background stuff I'd need to replicate which are typically items I completely ignore as I'm focused on walking past them to get to stores and other things.

On the first point, would definitely agree with this I would love to snap up some little accessories as there doesn't seem to be that much around! On the other hand, there are a fair number of very good laser-cut buildings out there so there would be some competition. Of course though, you could always take a different slant on new building ideas, or even produce something for a bit cheaper!
With the second point about weapon packs? Yes I think there is definitely a market there, but I would also contact CB about it first. It might be that they plan to release their own packs for instance, but if they aren't I don't think they would just dismiss it out of hand - the link with MAS has shown they are open to connections with other companies, and they have been really open with the community during the development of Paradiso and some new miniatures.
Alkasyn wrote:Ko Dali has been changed as well.
Yes, although the original Ko Dali would still be perfectly usable outside of the ITS tournaments.
I guess the important thing is that the background setting is slowly moving forward - this isn't going to be like 40k where the game setting is stuck perpetually at 11.45pm, allowing the game creators to introduce new ideas, units and background without it appearing contrived.

Ok first stab at a vending machine model, any thoughts?
I'd measure about 20mm wide and 34mm tall (17mm deep)
Face is intentionally blank/smooth so people can add their own logos or decals, personally I'll be making up a few Slurm machines.

The model, however, is no more useless post-change than it was beforehand (still ugly as sin though). The profile lost AD:X which means the UNIT is less useful than it was, but the model for the unit still functions AS a model (only now it's for the combine).

The info sign I've already sized up a label for printing which will show a map of Willamette mall (for all you zombie fans) I'll include a pair of labels that people can just stick onto their model. I may also make up some with Metra train routes etc to give it a realistic feel since those details would be really tough to paint by hand.
Data Terminal
I'm hoping that the keypads print ok, they are very small and the detail may get lost when printing. Also not sure if I want the recessed lip around the screen or if it should be a sunken or raised detail. Do you guys like the angular beveling on the body or would rounded edges be better?

I think you should avoid keypads altogether.
The Infinity universe is sufficiently techy enough that even Ariadna would have a large amount of touchscreens going around.

True most everything would likely be touch screen or done from holographic displays, but that stuff makes for boring models Unless you are a godly painter or using transfers they'd just be a bunch of cubes and blocks. I think the key pads would help the models double for modern or near future tech. (they'd be quite antiquated by Infinity time but eh)
