Hello

This will be my project page for my nids army. Why name Hivefleet Gaia? Well, my paint scheme is brown and green/yellow, so it renders a "earthly" colour tone, so I guess Hivefleet Gaia is appropriatre.

Idea here is for a more fast painting techniques (washing, drybrushing etc). Two reasons, first, they are nids - going to be painting a lot of em, second, want to take them to a small touney is July, so fast is the keyword here. As I said, already painted a few models, and the techniques work well to give a decent table top quality finish.

I have already painted some models, but here are some WIP shots:

It has been way too long since a Tyranid blog popped up, and it's an army of biggins. Can't wait to see them built and painted dude.

Thanks, yours doesn't look to shabby either!

As I mentioned above, want to go to a tourney in July. However, the TO added some restrictions, i.e. no duplicate units. That means different wargear or different numbers in units. So this is the list I am currenty working towards:

2 Flyrants
2 Tervigons
1 Termagaunt brood
1 Termagaunt brood
1 Mawloc
Doom with Spore
3 Biovore Brood
2 Biovore Brood
3 Hivegaurd Brood

Don't think I will have enough time to also paint extra termigaunts spawned.

Thanks!

Plates are dead simple
Coat with darkned ogre flesh
Take old brush and make firts layer stripes with elysina green.
Second layer stripes with elysian green and sunburst yellow
Thrid ayer with sunburts yellow

Quick and easy.

Ok, some WIP pictures.

Done with all the skins, here are the legs:

Busy with the heads, I think I am going to finish them separately so that they are out of the way.

Mawloc with scales and nails base coated:

My two lady gagas ('mama monster' if you don't get it). Skin, spawn sac and newborns done painted.

Looking good. I like the yellow. This is very motivating to me as I am also trying to get my Tyranids painted up.

Hey Brakkos,

Thanks for the comment on my tyranid blog, I thought I'd return the favour. Wow, the final product is awesome! As a fellow nid player, I will be checking it for inspiration.

Wow, you've done a great job here.
I see your Doom is suffering from floppy finecast syndrome, thats a shame. I had this problem with the zoanthrope finecast models to the extent that it snapped off, good job i hadn't started painting it else I would have hit the roof. I ended up breaking all three off there bases and rebasing them with brass rods up there arses.
Fingers crossed for you that this doesnt happen to yours but your model still looks great.
Keep up ther good work.

The bases are bought from Dragonforge. Go check it out, very nice stuff!

Err... actually this was me cutting the bottom of the er.. tendril not level. Only noticed it onced I glued him on the base and started taking photos.

However, the model looks actually fine from a "tabletop playing angle". It only looks sided when you looking to it from the front face level.

Now this is good stuff. Subscribed.

Thanks!

Looking Good Brokkos, your on a role by the looks of things.
I'm very interested to see what you come up with for this mycetic spore. I ended up buying a model from puppetswar, it's a nice model but needs some work to make it fit in.
Tyranids really need a new wave of models out this year. No Prime model, no mycetic spores and virtually now terrain. Come on GW give us some goodies!
I'm not hot on 40k rules but with things like Ork Bommers being engaged in dogfights, how do units like Flyrants stand?

Thanks!

I have decided to make my own - much cheaper than the 3rd party stuff
Collecting some bits from other nid players for my spores, but it will be awhile before I work on them - have to finish monsters first.
Hopefully next year for new models, if we get new codex.

Another great addition as usual.

The "Tetsuo Tummy" was a reference to the Manga cartoon 'Akira', when he mutates into this big chewed up bubble gum thingy at the end, much like the gant sack of your Tervigon.

Do you cover your entire model in gloss vanish?
I have just been playing around with gloss on my Tervigon but just kept it to the crevices.

Ah ok, thanks for the explanation!

No, usually just the tongue. What happened here is that the matt spray that I was using was just not doing the job! Maybe a dud can or something - first time failing on me. However, promised a picture of the big guy, so I delivered.

However, went to buy matt spray from another company, and got the job done! Will post a pic tomorrow of him without the gloss effect, as well as my two tervigons!

Meanwhile though, here's the progress on my spore pods:

Here is some prototype spore mines that I made. Ok, can't really see how they look at this stage, but a friend of mine will help me make a mould for them to resin cast them. Will show pics as it progress. They are going to be like "jelly fish" floating in the air.

Great work on all of this. But as a look at your work I have to ask a question that I have been meaning to ask for some time,
why give the flyrants the fleshborer hive arms. Yeah they look good but I just see them on all the flyerants lately.

Those fleshborer arms I use to represent the TL devourers.

Here is my painted spore mines. They arent' the best in the west when it comes down to modelling, but they serve the purpose (and cheap and fast to paint! ).
