While I was checking out the new Baneblade on the GW website I couldn't help notice that there appeared to be a piece missing in one of the images.

I noticed it when I clicked to look at the 360* image.

Am I missing something here, or is the model?

I lol'd. I actually had the same problem with my Baneblade. The piece in that exact spot just went missing. :(

It's a model they painted years ago, and I don't think it was ever really photographed from behind. It's also perfectly possible it took some battle damage along the way, just from typical wear and tear being used in games.

It just seems unusual for that oversight to occur. Though perhaps it was intentional.
It just makes more sense for them to display a fully assembled, fully painted model, especially for the 360* display images.

You woudl think so, but no... GW have a long history of using damaged models in their promotional material. The broken arm on the new Wraithguard box is the other recent one. I recall one of the Assault Squad boxes havig a guy with a giant blob of bluetac holding his jump pack on, and a studio battle report that had a biker missing an arm, amongst others over the years.

The Hive Tyrant, Tervigon and Tyrannofex having arms held on with blutac was a recent one. They photoshopped it out for white dwarf and the rulebook and eventually replaced the website images. The rulebook image for it actually still has a blueish haze around the joint.

They should fire the guy that did this, and then fire the guy that fired him to remove any connection with the first guy.

Absolutely not.
They're marketing high priced toys. Why advertise high priced toys with badly assembled models? Would you accept someone like me (horribad painter) painting a model and putting it up?

Why do you think the baneblade is stopped? It threw a track link.

Haha, both this and the Wraithguard arm are pretty poor as far as marketing goes.

Its kind of suggestive of what we all really know any way, that GW is concerned purely with money making these days, and cares less and less for the 'hobby' as a whole.
Or the state of its website/marketing images it seems!

Case in point, try clicking the 'Kabalite Webway Strike' Apocalypse formation in the Apocalypse section (linked below).
Instead of going to the formation so you can view it, all it does is reload the page.

Now I know these are really only small issues and it may be pedantic to point them out and declare it as proof of GW lack of caring about the hobby as a whole.
But when you look at the number of these sort of issues that crop up, including things like all the typos, misprints and clearly incorrectly written entries in their codexes and rule books, its not encouraging. It just paints a very poor image of GW overall. One that, sadly, is pretty accurate.

It's lazy and sloppy. You put up a model to showcase, you make it look as good as you can. Leaving broken off pieces when you could have replaced them (tank tread) or not even gluing models together for box art (wraithguard) is inexcusable from a professional company.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Sometimes I am amazed at the level of desperation some on this site display in their quest to find reasons to hate or criticize Games Workshop.

These days? They have been doing this sort of thing since at least 2nd edition.

It's hardly 'desperation' to criticise a company for using incomplete or damaged models in the promotional material intended to sell those models...

No big deal?

You are talking about GW. They tout about selling the 'Finest Miniatures in the WORLD!!!!!" Their only advertisement is basically their website. So when they put up their (now) $140USD tank, you'd think they would have the basic competence to not take pictures of a broken model!!!!

Another lovely GW marketing ploy.

That model is not "broken" it is "Battle Damaged" Just another new feature of GW Models! get them before they are gone!

I just spooled through all the 360 images on the link you provided, IDK where you found the image there, but none of the ones on the GW site have that problem. In fact, that tank (in that color scheme) isn't available for 360 view. Looks like they pulled it.

Wow! You're right! I had seen the missing parts in a 360 image on GWs site but I see that they indeed have taken it down.

Guess we have a GW lurker on here. And I thought GW didn't think the internet exists.

Should we just post nothing but comments about SoBs and see if they suddenly become the next release?

One of the studio guys said they did read 40k message boards (enough that he knew one rather pedantic rules lawyer on Warseer by his screen name). So anything like this which is an easy fix they can just quietly pass on to their web team to do.

Before you ask why they never post anything, remember how that 'Become Legendary' account GW had here was treated.

Forgive me for my inept foolishness but what happened exactly? I presume, based on most of my experiences with fellow 40k and fantasy gamers that the responses were cynical and vicious but might I glean some more detail if you would be so kind as to listen to my trite and rude insolence.

Anyways yeah that is kinda silly. Shhh nobody notice the missing part of the vehicle! Even though we have to paint it. Does bring up a curious question as to why they didn't notice it.

That was unfortunate. We had an opportunity as a community to foster some real communication and we blew it.

Hardly. There was no sign that the person making those posts had any ability to do more than just quote standard company policy at us. Spamming advertising about generic retail jobs is hardly an effort to build stronger communication with the community.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Most people wouldn't notice if they were just casually looking at the image.

This picture wouldn't stop me from buying a baneblade if I was interested in the model.

Mistakes happen no biggie - there are probably only a handful of people that manage the information on their entire website. If every image had do get passed through an approval process of 10 people then we would never have updates.

Even if they realised their mistake.... they aren't going to go: "Hey get the baneblade, grab an extra sprue, paint the missing piece, attach it, and lets photograph it again so our web master can swap the 360 photo."
