Hey all!

A for fun thread, what's the most amazing thing you've done with any unit in the game? Feel free to add synergies and whatnot, but try to focus on the exploits of a single unit. How it trolled, stomped, or crippled an enemy army, or just how it made the game fun and enjoyable! I'll start:

Swooping Hawks. vs. Guard

Got first turn, so I deployed them, and skyleaped right away. Turn 2, I deepstriked near their ADL turret, dropped a grenade on the guardsmen mounting it, and shot the survivors. Battlefocused to end my turn touching the turret.

On my opponents phase, a Vendetta came in, I proceeded to shoot it with intercept from THE STOLEN QUADGUN and stunned it! The return fire from the backfield was torturous, but Going to Ground made it more manageable (2+ behind aegis!, 4+ save vs lasguns on the other side). Didn't lose a single hawk. My turn, I skyleaped with the hawks as the rest of my army closed the gap.

I 1-shot a hellturky using a Mek in a flamer unit once. Got a 6 to hit, 6 to pen, he failed his invuln, and a 6 for Damage results.

Back in 5th, Vulkan SMs against IG:

After losing 5 assault termies to crappy save rolls, Vulkan proceeds to make 22 armor saves in a single round of shooting then in the next 2-3 turns pops 2 chimera transports and ties up another infantry squad before the end of the game. He literally singlehandedly turned the game around for me. It was like reading one of the Salamanders book where Vulkan is always on the run slicing things up or burning things to a crisp, absolutely unstoppable. It was epic.

Epic games are the best. My favorite part about 40k fluff is reading amazing Rip-a-daemon's-heart-out story and thinking, "Damn, he must have been rolling a lot of 6s". Then realizing that you want to see one of your units the exact same thing.

40k, where almost anything is possible - and it goes both ways!

The best thing I can think of was turn 1 5 sniper scout killed 1 battle suit causing the whole unit to fall off the table. Then they jumped in a land speeder storm with multi melta and did drive by's on his other suit and stood in front of the tau till turn 4. Scouts died at mid field on obj by suits. Then a drop pod almost killed his suit commander solo. Of course I lost cause my saves were rolling 1's

I Challenged Abbadon With A Lord withMSS And Made Abbadon Hit Himself To Death.

In quite the opposite fashion, the worst thing that has ever happened to me...

Black Templars (as me) VS. CSM (my brother):

To set the mood, he had a 180+ Zombie list led by Typhus. He had 3 Havoc squads, 2 with Autocannons and 1 with Lascannons all behind an Aegis Defence Line. The last of his points went into 2 Heldrakes.

I had a 2 LRCs among others. I went through his entire list to point out what in his list could actually kill a LRC. 4 Lascannons in 1 Havoc Squad.

Turn1: Nightfighting. I go first and I set up my LRCs near the center of the board and partially behind terrain.

He steals initiative. That's fine. I still get 5++ from terrain and it increases to a 2++ from Stealth and Shroud for being 24"+ away.

He only has true LOS on a single Land Raider with a single Lascannon model.

He shoots with BS4
He hits with a "4". *eh, 66% chance*
I roll to save: 1. *crap, what are the chances, it's okay*
He penetrates with a "6". *he wound pen, sigh, he still needs a 5+...*
He rolls for damage: 6. *Good game. Well played. Shake hands*

I oonce played a small 500 point scirmish with my 5 man biker unit with a decked out captain and an attack bike and 5 scouts against a sisters of battle army. I set up somewhere relatively safewith my 400 points of bikers but he manages to steal the initiative sees my bikes through a window with his exorcist, fires away and kills two bikers. I proceed to roll 11 on my leadership test and 420 points of my 500 point army runs of the table after turn one and I'm forced to raise the white flag.

And that is my most awsome dice roll I've ever made.

I had two pinned veterans with meltaguns (the last surviving members of their squad) shoot down a GK stormraven with consecutive sixes. The stormraven was the only thing that could take out my leman russes and we were playing Big Guns. Ended up winning the game because of that.

Still going back(5th edition) to my Archon and 5 Incubi charging Logan(logan had taken a wound) + 6 Terminators.

My archon completely wiffed against Logan, and the incubi killed 3 termintors and were then wiped out by the remaining terminators. Logan got nothing but shadowfield.

I was feeling pretty hopeless at this point

The next round I put everything into Logan again, got 4 wounds and he failed 3 saves killing him. The terminators got nothing but shadowfield. They lost combat by 3, failed their leadership check and ran, were caught by the archon and invoked ATSKNF to autorally and take fearless wounds. 3 armorsaves, assault cannon and they were all dead. The archon got his 2 pain tokens and won the game.

Getting boarded by game turn 3, I decided I was going to have last laugh. My Farseer cast Death mission, walked up, bitch slapped and swept the unit he had holding the relic. The game was then called for time. I may have lost but not without glory.

The Most Awful* Thing I've done with _Trygon's_ was... feed them to a death roller.

Twice

In one game.

I had a single Steel Legion Guardsman short out a Dark Eldar Archon's Shadow Field in close combat with the butt of his rifle before he was taken prisoner and likely flayed. I had to sculpt a small medal on him to commemorate the occasion.

my fav liost of things that I will always remember.

1) beginning of sixth. had logan and a wolf guard termie left. split them off to try and get to units. rolled really bad on charge. logan standing in open field surrounded by tau. he survives 1 hammerhead 3 broadsides and 15 rapid firing warriors.

2 Maugan ra gets assaulted by Farsight in fifth ed. I win combat by one wound. Maug sweeps farsight and 5 Suits off the table

2 maug again gets charged by Belial. bad place ment on my part. 3 turns later Maug Takes down delial in challenge

3 not me but my BF. vendetta shoots at remaining broadside.fails hovers to shoot again before fling off table. fails. BFs crises suit and broad side fail to kill with shooting so broad side walks up and punches out coclkkpit killing said vendetta. or valkyre which ever has 3 lascanons =P

APOC game i played in 5th:
I deep struck my LRC with assault termies and a chaplain behind my buddies Imp guard Basilisks (x3) and wiped them out. The DS was super chancy (aka stupid lol) if I had scattered more then 2 or 3 inches in any direction I'd have been screwed.

Eldrad killing a Bloodthirster in 1on1 combat.

It took 4 rounds of combat, as Eldrad made 27 invul saves (fortuned) that would have instant deathed him. Meanwhile, Eldrad plinked the thirster for 1 wound every round. This was the old Eldrad, before his force weapon. It was glorious.

I was playing against some Mechdar the other day with my BA. I had one of my Tac Squads pinned, but I shot its LC at one of the WS anyway.

I managed to hit and Pen somehow, and my opponent and I laugh about how hilarious it would be if his Serpent Shield and Jink failed.He rolls a 1 for both . I roll a 5 on the damage chart and blow it up first turn, which allowed me to miraculously tie the game later on!

Back in 5th Edition a mate's Tau Fire Warrior squad leader took the last wound from a tooled up Space Marine Captain in close combat (not a happy camper).

The next game the Tau took on my Dark Eldar (in the day when you scored bonus victory points for 'capturing' the enemy). Well a Wych squad took out said Firewarrior Team and we especially rolled to see if the famous leader was killed or captured. Turned out he was taken prisoner!

Of course we had to do a special mission to give my mate the chance to rescue his now famous Fire Warrior team leader, so we set up an ambush scenario with my Dark Eldar trying to escape with all of their new slaves.

Bringing a long story to a close, the damned Tau got away and when next he appeared he was behind the controls of a Crisis suit...

I had a prolonged combat of a Maulerfiend, 6 noisemarines, and a Helbrute against a Dreadknight that just wouldn't die.

All this was happening as we fought over an objective, just out of reach of the noisemarines scoring it! All we needed was to kill the dreadknight and even a 1" consolidation would do it.

Well as it happened some cultists came over to grab the objective. Doing fine, until some good shooting wipes out their chaos lord, the cultist leader, and everyone but the very last cultist, all by his lonesome.

Well, he passed his morale test and stood firm, but he wouldn't survive another shooting phase. Into the combat! The dreadknight couldn't afford to keep ignoring the big guys, and the cultist would be safe from shooting and was still within scoring range of the objective! Awesome!

Well, the round of combat continues. The maulerfiend fails. The helbrute scores one wound leaving the dreadknight with ONE wound left. The noisemarines' krak grenades fail to find their mark. Guess that's it....


WAIT! The cultist charged in! He gets his two attacks! With a 4 resulting in a hit and a SIX!! to wound, the dreadknight rolls his save...

and rolls a 1. The cultist slew the dreadknight!

Now I know the cultist wasn't the cultist champion, so he lacks the Champion of the Gods rule. But just because, since he slew a character, I decided to roll on the table anyway just to see "what if?"

Wouldn't you know it... 6 and a 6, that cultist became a DAEMON PRINCE!!! for his glorious intervention in the combat!

Epic, truly epic tale of the random cultist that won the day and was aptly rewarded!

Back in 5th I had Mephiston perils 3 out of 4 psychic powers, then die in close combat with Tau Stealth Suits turn 2. My opponent said it was pretty awesome....

One time i had a Interigator chaplain in terminator armor Save 8 4++ saves in a row!

another game against some eldar, i set up the perfect combo. my black knights hit a 20 man guardian squad with a rad grenade, and my banner of devastation buffed biker squad wiped the T2 eldar off the table!

My riptide punched the wang off of a bloodthirster this weekend. I was thrilled, the othee dude, not so much

My Necron Royal Court consisting of an Overlord, 5 Lords, and Zandrehk on subsequent turns trounced (losing just two lords):

Turn 4: Dante, 5 assault marines, 5 banner assault marines
Turn 5: 21 death company, chaplain
Turn 6: 7 terminators, one terminator chaplain, one terminator librarian

I had a Medusa fail for 3 turns to kill a some Marines in cover, then on turn 4 it pivoted 90* and killed Abadon. who was sneaking up behind it after wiping out a Guardsman blob.

When one ork shoota boy took out two of my mate SM termies in one turn singlehandedly...

Years ago, when all this was fields and people didn't hate GW, (i.e. we're talking 2nd edition here, circa WD 200ish) I had an awesome result against a friend of mine. Poor guy, it was his forst intro to the 40k world, and it did not go according to plan. I'll set the scene, and go over a few things for the less veteran amongst us.

500 points a side, merely a tester for my new Chaos guys with a few Ork (well, Gretchin, the old pointy helmetted ones) allies. I had a Sorceror, what would these days be a Havoc Squad and a few Grots. My friend took a Chaplain, a Terminator Squad and a Rhino. (Back then you could squeeze TDA into a Rhino)

Now, in those days, a Chaplains Rosarius contained a Conversion Field, which turned the energy from shots into a blinding flash of light (Not dissimilar to the new Wraithknight Scattershield) on an unmodifiable (invulnerable) save of 4+.

So, turn 1 or 2, I blast the Rhino with a lascannon, splatting the driver and causing the vehice to careen out of control. Next turn it hits a rock, crashes, blows up and kills 4 out of the 5 Terminators (It was much harder to survive a vehicle blowing back then, it was basically 'dead on a 4+, no saves'). After the crash, I nail the Chaplain with said lascannon, and the save is passed. Now everything within 9" that isn't a Space Marine (imune to the flash, thanks to auto senses in helmet) is blind (WS & BS1, just like now). So that's just my Gretchin now.

I proceed to swarm the surviving Terminator with a horde of Grots, who swats 4 down (combat was more of a 1 on 1 affair, with bonuses for additional combatants etc.). The 5th Gretchin, still blind from the flash, proceeds to roll the craziest set of lucky dice in the world and actually wins the combat. He then wounds said Terminator, who then fluffs his save (which in the day was 3+ on 2D6) at no modifier.

So that's a WS1 Grot winning a combat (Which was D6 + WS, plus 1 per additional combatant and an extra D6 for each, pick the highest, with bonuses for more than one 6), wounding and then snake eyes for the save.

Surprisingly, my friend actually got into the hobby and was eventually my introduction to running an army which didn't primarily wear Power Armour...

happens all the time

My little 5-strong shooty Warrior Brood's exploits, to date:

* Killed a Bloodthirster in melee (it charged through cover with 1 wound left) just after stopping a Bloodcrusher unit in it's tracks with their overwatch.

* Shot down and indirectly killed a Lord of Change from a failed grounding check (splat!).

* Killed a 5-strong Deathwing Terminator unit (old book) in melee with just Scything Talons and their Deathspitters - two Warriors survived long enough to be unceremoniously splatted by Calgar.

* Wrecked a Venerable Dreadnaught with their Venom Cannon.


They also for whatever reason seem to have unusually good luck against S8 weaponry. I can't count the number of times where someone has dropped S8 shots on them only for the attacker roll a 1 to wound or miss outright (I recall one recent game in particular where a Crimson Hunter only managed to drop 1 Warrior after lighting them up for two consecutive turns through sheer bad luck).

Grey Knights vs. Tau
I had a Rhino that had suffered a weapon destroyed and had a single hull point left, so I was just tank shocking everything with it. I tank shocked my opponent's Suit Commander and his Bodyguards, he decided to do a Death or Glory attack with his S10 Gauntlet with his commander. He would pen on a 2+. The Rhino won.

He was mad.

6th edition, the old Eldar book versus a friend's Space Marines.

He did a Deep Strike w/ Terminators and targeted my 8 Rangers in a ruin. With 10 wounds incoming, I went to ground to change my save from 3+ to 2+. I proceeded to roll one 1, five 3+, and four 2s. Man was I happy I went to ground.

On their turn, the 7 remaining Rangers decided to deal with a Tac squad. This particular squad had 10 guys. 7 were in cover, but 3 were strung out so the Heavy Weapons guy could fire. So I focus fired. They roll their Snap Shots and only get 1 hit. But I'm on the objective that allows me to reroll ones, of which there were two - and I get 2 more hits.

Since this is old Eldar codex, the 6 to Hit was already AP1. I tell my friend "Don't worry, I still need three 4+ to wound to actually kill your heavy weapons guy". And proceed to roll 4,4,6.
