Project is funded so everything other than the 5 locked stretch goals are available as a pick option.

Current Stretch goal $18,000 type 1 Qilin

Artwork

The full sized artwork images can be found here: http://www.impactminiatures.net/Chibi/AsianChibi.html

(if you click on the artwork it will take you to a Youtube video of the finished sculpt, most links should be working now). The artwork is again done by Lorraine Schelter.

The first 26 are Type 1 miniatures (approx. 30mm) the last 5 are Type 2 (approx. 50mm) the type 2s have been reduced from 60mm in the first KS as they ended up too large in some cases and are expensive to produce the Chimera being the main example. All of the above have already been digitally sculpted by Juan Miguel López Barea at MKUltra Studios. They are now available to pick as the project has reached it's funding goal of $15,000. The miniatures have been designed to have less parts and be easier to cast and assemble this time. The kickstarter is required to help fund the molding and casting of the miniatures. Trollforged will be looking after this again.

In addition to the above the following are also available as picks options.

Also now available is the type 5 chibi fort (5 picks) with optional type 1 tower.

There are 5 stretch goal miniatures to unlock once funded and stretch goals will also add additional picks to some of the pledge levels (see table)

Your reward level lets you make a number of picks. A type 1 is 1 pick a type 2 counts as 2 picks and a type 5 is 5 picks. You can buy a pick for $5 each if you want more picks than your reward level but not as many as the next level.

The Pledge levels are as follows

Chonin - $10 - 1 pick ($5 to ship outside US)
Peasant - $30 - 5 picks ($5 to ship outside US)
Ronin - $50 - 10 picks ($5 to ship outside US)
Samurai - $100 - 21 picks ($10 to ship outside US) - Eligible for extra pick rewards from $40,000
Diamyo - $150 - 32 picks ($10 to ship outside US) - Eligible for extra pick rewards from $20,000
Shogun - $200 - 44 picks ($10 to ship outside US) - Eligible for extra pick rewards from $20,000
Collector - $225 - 1 of every type 1, type 2 and type 2 miniature unlocked during the KS.
Emperor - $250 - 56 picks ($15 to ship outside US) - Eligible for extra pick rewards from $20,000

In order to keep everything on time (planned delivery is provisionally May 2014 ) the project will be limited to 40 miniatures. There’s no scope for adding backers suggestions this time and no backer designed miniature level (the sculpting company is booked out with other projects) however they are still open to suggestions for if/when they expand the range after the KS. The last project snowballed to 103 miniatures and shipping was delayed as a result so Chris and Tom want to avoid that happening again. Tom’s health issues during the KS didn’t help either but I must say their communication was excellent throughout and they are very quick to deal with any issues that backers have with their stuff so I have no issues backing again.

Finally you can see the finished results of the first KS here: http://www.impactminiatures.com/index.php?option=chibi
(anything that was paid for by Impact! In addition to the KS stuff is on sale now the rest won’t go on sale until all KS backers have theirs so that stuff is currently showing as out of stock).

They look fun and could be used in Super Dungeon Explore, and as variation models in any far east skirmish type game. It could make a good demo game at a show, for instance. Like you say, a breath of fresh air from Grimdarkness(TM).

I didn't know about the previous adventurers Kickstarter but the success of that shows there is a market for this kind of figure.

It's a good decision to keep the range limited and focussed.

This first KS did great! Trollcast really suits Chibi minis well, as shown by the results of KS1. Will be watching with great interest!

I just hope the lead time is long enough since Trollforged still has to fulfill their alien KS.

I have to say, these are not to my taste, but the Bruce Lee knock-off and all the Street Fighter rip-offs have my attention.

I probably won't pledge, but it looks very creative and fun.

Three Storms are coming with Jack Burton. And his truck. That's in a later kickstarter though.

We just need a big trouble in little china playset/ skirmish game. Monsters, fighting tongs, old dudes in wheel chairs, flying kung fu experts...it's like lightning in a bottle.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

AFAIK the 3 storms and Journey to the West stuff was on the initial list but didn't make the final cut when it was decided to restrict it to 40 or so miniatures - there was a need for more minions which sell in multiples and less characters which tend to be 1 off sales so a few characters were dropped and more Minion types added.

They are still on Tom's list for possible later release but they aren't part of this KS and may not be part of another one instead going straight to retail (or they may never appear it's to far out to say for definite now) no idea where the truck idea is coming from don't expect to see that.

It's also probably not a good idea to draw to heavily from one source if using pop culture for inspiration all names have been kept generic to avoid any issues this was the problem with some of the first KS minis it was the names and not the designs that were the problem.

Does anyone have the current Chibi line as well as Super Dungeon Explore and could provide a comparison in scale? I had heard that the Impact Chibi stuff did not scale well to SDE.

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

You can see some here

http://artistsunited.myfreeforum.org/Got_My_Minis_D_about3763.html

They are a similar size but the heads and eyes are a bit bigger - Impact went with their own style rather than copy SDE proportions they also made a decision to try and not do the same miniatures that SDE had already covered.

Thanks for that link, DaveC. I see in the thread that the creator also said he hoped to have (almost) everything shipped before Sept 27th and the start of the new campaign, so that is great

Also this is smart (update from the prior KS):

Impact Miniatures wrote:We wanted to let you all know that we now have just 100 packages left to ship. We're working hard to get the remainder in the mail and anticipate being done by month-end. As soon as we've shipped all that we can, we will launch the Chibi Asian Adventurers Campaign. We wanted to provide a quick preview of the art by Lorraine and outline some of the ways that this Kickstarter will different given we're incorporating what we learned from this one.
1. We are limiting the total number of figures. 100 was overly-ambitious and we're going to keep it to just shy of 40. This should make it faster.
2. We have completed sculpting for all the figures. That's right...no wait time for them to be sculpted. They're done.
3. We are keeping it simple. No tiles, no t-shirts. Just minis...no other distractions.
4. Simplified structure. We're using a pick structure where there are 6 levels with a number of picks. Type 1 are 1 pick, Type 2 are two picks.
5. Stretch goals. They'll be spread out more. We'll have 5 additional figure to fund through stretch goal (maybe a 6th if Ed can figure out how to properly cast it). Most of the Stretch Goals will add additional bonus picks to the different reward levels. As the KS total grows, so do the rewards.
6. Simpler minis - We purposely tried to make these minis more simple with fewer parts. That will make them easier to put together, simpler to cast, and much quicker to bag up and ship.
7. Casting should be easier. Troll Forged is now casting out of their new shop and not out of Ed's basement. They have doubled the number of employees and casting speed has improved. Additionally, they have more experience casting chibi minis, which are more difficult given the proportions. Also, Type 2 minis will be 50mm in size (not 60mm as before), and much easier to cast.
Thank you all for your patience and we hope to have your help in launching the Chibi Asian Adventurers!

Chris & Tom

Here is the current preview of the miniatures planned for the Chibi Asian Adventurers KickStarter (please note a few of the video links are not working yet ... I am working on getting those fixed ... but I do know they need fixed already). Hope you enjoy the preview!
http://www.impactminiatures.net/Chibi/AsianChibi.html

In addition to the 31 shown here, there are 5 stretch goal miniatures not shown (Bashe, Baku, Hsigo, Chinese Bowman and Qilin) and 3 new miniatures that Ed is working on some sculpting changes for us (Chinese Hobgoblin, Tengu Swordmaster and Chibi Fort) that if they all work out as planned will give us the planned total of 39 new miniatures for the KickStarter. We'll also have the Monk, Dragon Monk, Monk Cloud & Airball and Tengu Priest from the Dungeon Chibi KS as picks for the Asian Chibi KickStarter as they all 4 come from the Asian Adventurers theme. Finally we'll have the Stonework bases as picks as well as they really make the figures look great. Thus the final result of total number of items to pick from is 46.

Trollcast really lends itself well to these Chibi miniatures, whereas with RBG's campaign and the super fine proportions there can be problems, particularly with weapons. Hopefully, Ed can have RBG's campaign tied off very soon so that he can focus on his own campaign, and on this one.

However, from what I've seen, again since these seem to be so much easier to cast, he's able to have the Chibis being cast while he continues to have his best employee and himself work on the very difficult molds (such as for RBG) and casts.

Also, just FYI guys but Ed at Trollforged's daughter was in the hospital for the last week or so and I think just came home today. So any thoughts / encouragement you can send his way would be greatly appreciated I am sure (not to derail this thread but just to mention it).

quick update from Kim

Asian Chibi coming soon!

Yippee!

20 more to send and they will be ready to start a new KS (although they are still working on the video for the KS as well - that's the last piece they need for it). They had small hiccup the other day as they ran out bases (they've used 20,000 or so) but it's sorted now.

May 2014 - the miniatures have to be printed and molded then cast. Trollforged still have their own stuff do to as well so they are giving plenty of time, better to over estimate.

Yeah, being up against Bones is probably not the best luck, but I think it won't hurt them all that much.

I like how they have changed from the previous KS. I knew they would have to change something as the last one you could tell was getting out of control at the end in scope creep.

Looking forward to this!

Update time - limited edition pewter offer choose from initial 26 type 1s available in this KS only.

100 backers! And they get to pick the limited edition set!

Update #2 · Oct 4, 2013 · 2 comments
Thank you ... we just reached 100 backers.

We are going to make for this KickStarter an exclusive set of 10 TYPE 1 figures in pewter instead of resin. We will only make 25 of them.

What we need to decide is WHICH 10 TYPE 1 figures will be in the limited edition pewter set.

So as a thank you to our first 100 backers we wanted to let you select the miniatures that will be in the limited edition set.

Just post to a comment to this update with the list of the 10 figures that you would like to see in a limited edition set.

In 3 days (Noon EST on Monday), I'll go through all the comments to this update and see which 10 Type 1 figures have the most votes and those will be the 10 that we put into the limited edition set.

Once we know what the set of 10 will be ... we'll put out a new update that has the official list of the 10 figures we'll do in pewter and allow backers to post a comment to that tread to pruchase one a set as a $100 add on. The first 25 backers who post to that update that they'd like the set will be the ones we work with to make sure they get one when their reward ships (and give us a single location to have the full list of who is getting them). (we are doing it this way so the set can be limited edition and added on to any reward level). Once we fund the project ... we'll send a PayPal invoice to each of those backers to lock in getting the limited edition set.

For now though ... you can vote even if you don't plan on buying a set of the limited edition pewter. Let us know which 10 figures you would most like to see in pewter and we'll see who wins to be in the set.

Thanks again to our first 100 backers

Tom and Chris @ Impact!
