Basically what had to be the scariest moment you've had facing someone. Like what I mean is you saw what they brought and felt scared. Personally....was my last match. I went against two brothers and had told them a week before to bring all they had as our last match because the place I was playing at closed down. I swear....it felt like an apoc match from how much things they had...Took up their entire side of a Dawn of War deployment...IT WAS SO FREAKING AWESOME!!!! I was scared of how many shots were fired and stuff but still it was scary and awesome!!! I had said screw it to points cost...I only had like....3 10 man squads of Grey Hunters, 3 Thunderwolves, two 5man long fangs, my aegis, Wolf Guard Termis, Logan and my scouts along with a Vindicator and Rhino along with a Rune Priest vs SO MANY MARINES AND GUARDSMEN AND CHAOS!! Yeah I also said screw it to allies and just said everything here and now....So totally worth it...this was a for fun match so yea ^^;

One time there was a scary man with a bunch of plastic soldiers at the other side of a table, so I hid under said table and sobbed quietly for three hours. I still have nightmares.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. I was playing a 4 person free for all. Suddenly it turned into a 3 vs 1 fight with my eldar versus 1 ork, 1 SM, and 1 tyranid. Luckily it was 3rd edition and I played a seer star with 2x5 wraithguard and 2 wraithlords for troops and the almighty swooping hawk exarch. So after all three armies shot their entire armies into my seer star and only took half the death star in casualties I ended up winning. Seeing all of those models against my little ~27 man army was scary and the results were scary to say the least.

Having an Apoc battle and seeing 3 enemy armies try and squeeze their way towards me in a bottleneck. And those armies being horde armies. 2K vs. +/-5/6K. Thank god it was a bottleneck and they got stuck there.

Am I allowed to nominate a situation rather than an opponent?

My friends and I were playing kind of a "modified space hulk" with me being Tau (this was in 5th edition...hint, Tau do not like close confined windy little passages), a friend playing space marines (an updated version of the "movie marines" rule if I recall correctly, so he had about 10 guys on the table), and a third friend being the Tyranid menace.

We had no idea we were going to play space hulk so we just built about 1250 pt armies or some weird number like that and went to town.

Things weren't going well, my moves basically consisted of "open a door, kill half of the tyranid stuff on the other side, then get that squad mulched in close combat". Of course on the other side of the board the brave squad of 10 hero marines were piling up stacks of Tyranid corpses on their way to the objective.

Anyway, I just have a broadside open one random door with a scanner blip on the other side, and hear "make a leadership test on 3d6"...my heart pretty much froze at that point. That one solitary broadside was the only model left in my army with even a prayer of stopping the Doom.

Good thing for me I passed the leadership test and then fired the rail gun into the doom from about 2" away. Hit...wound...failed his invuln. I imagine that broadside literally just shoved the barrel into its mouth and pulled the trigger.

I still got absolutely annihilated in the game, but that moment made it worth it.

Not scared of seeing armies on the table, the feeling I get with some armies is more just dissapointment, "Ah great, another Google aficionado... how long did it take you to dig that list up?"

Scary moment though? Playing back in the day with my old Grey Knight book with IG allies. My vendettas start the game at the board edge and my opponent is on my side starting to measure. I'm getting something to drink. I look back and realize that as he's leaning over to measure my Vendtta is starting to tip backwards towards the table edge. NOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I put the soda back and as I'm heading back the vendetta falls from the table... I cringe... I'm waiting for the immanent "crack!" of the pieces going everywhere.. but nothing happens. I get to the table and the vendetta has luckily fallen onto my sweatshirt that was on the floor. Woot!

Of course, a week later, the shelf that holds most of my toys fell in my appartment due to water damage, all three of my Vendettas were destroyed, never to see light again.

Ain't nothin like seeing a precious model about to fall to send shivers down your spine and make you want to hit something. That works as an example too because it is part of 40K as well! So those type of moments work too! As said this is meant to voice those "OH GOD NO!" moments. So if it has to do with the hobby then hey voice it!

lol no it hasn't happened but my friend and I were laughing about the freak out that might ensue if someone saw you start to do that.

Well if those count then I guess dropping an entire army's worth of space marines down some stairs would be my most frightening moment.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

My scariest moment was while I was building some SM to go onto some Bikes I got off a mate. Chopping the head off one of my few remaining AOBR marines to transplant it to a new torso, when suddenly...

*Ping as head flies across room*

Miraculously, it only took a minute to find. I was mentally preparing to put together a Bear Grylls survival kit and set off looking for it.

First game I played against Tyranids. It was the start of 6th edition and I just started Space Wolves, my first army. I had a terrible list and was partnered up with 500 points of Vanilla Marines also with a terrible list. We go against 1000 points of Tyranids which includes the Swarmlord beefed out with Iron Arm, and two Tervigons.

As the Swedish say:

10?!?! That's a bit of overkill! I mean..I guess that's how Necrons can roll but still that's just pure insane!

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

One of the most painful memories of 40k for me was playing me (at the time undefeated) BA against an IG army that, for the first time, was using a pair of russes. A squad would DS, get pie-plated (I rolled very poorly for running) and my marines were taken apart piecemeal. I learned a valuable lesson that day: Kill the Russes first!

Going up against nids for the first time was also an experience, this was in 5th ed with the old fleet rules for Hormagaunts. It went something like this:
'you move how far?!' followed by 'you have how many attacks?!' followed by 'you have how many wounds on that MC' followed by 'oh god not the rune priest, not the rune priest!'. That combination of speed and sheer resilience messed up my wolves badly. The next game, I had more plasma for the big bugs, and more bolters for the little'uns, and claimed vengeance in Russ's name.

More recently, I had my first game against eldar the other week, playing against a mech army with my footguard. 100+ lasguns that were doing nothing, 12+ flamers that were useless, and all my AT resting on a an exterminator and a manticore. Once the eldar disembarked and I could catch them, they were mowed down, but the speed given by Battle Focus meant that was easier said than done, and the Fire Prisms were just nasty. I only lost 6-4 in the end, but it should have been far worse. Cramped deployment+blasts from everywhere+hugely fast opponents (everything was either mechanised, on a jetbike or with wings) was brutal.

I've only gone up against Flyer Spam once. The game was over first turn. He had one model hiding on the board and the rest were in reserves. His lone model did not survive.
